This study investigates the influence of uptake of courses and finance availability on the expansion strategies in public training institutions with reference to the Kenya Medical Training College. The specific objectives of the study are to:  reveal the influence of uptake of courses on the success of expansion strategies in the public training institutions and; assess the influence of finances on the success of expansion strategies in the public training institutions. This study is based on the Ansoff Growth Matrix (AGM) and the theory of customer responsiveness. It adopts the descriptive survey design. The study focuses on 2393 KMTC officers from the 73 KMTC campuses in Kenya, 42 ministries of health officials in the 42 counties that have KMTC campuses and 42 local leaders from those counties that have KMTC campuses. The total targeted study participants were thus 2477. From these, 10% (248 persons) were sampled. The study used purposive and stratified random sampling techniques to obtain the study sample. Primary data was collected using structured questionnaires and interviews. Data from questionnaires were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24. Descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, and means) were used to describe the central tendencies of the data. In addition, inferential statistics (Pearson Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis) were also used. Data from key informants were analysed using content analysis techniques. The findings show that the two study variables influenced the success of expansion strategies at KMTC campuses. In this regard, Pearson correlation shows that there was statistical significant relationship between uptake of courses (r=.308, p<0.001) and; finance availability (r=0.673, p<0.001) and success of expansion strategies. These findings show that finance availability was the strongest factor that influenced the success of expansion strategies. As such, the success of expansion strategies can only be successful if the college put in place strategies aimed at ensuring that there were sufficient finances. This could go on to enhance the development of facilities and equipping them. An effort aimed at ensuring that new campuses had a high intake of students could also contribute to the level of success of expansion strategies at KMTC. High intakes could enhance the revenue generation, further enhancing the funding and success of new KMTC campuses.

This study seeks to look at the relationships among teachers’ academic qualification, availability of quality resources and the performance of students in Mathematics, English and Integrated science of Basic Schools at Kwahu-East in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The authors used a descriptive survey design which adopted the questionnaire, interview and observation in the collection of data. The authors used stratified random sampling in selecting 180 teachers whereas purposive sampling was used in selecting 27 headteachers and District Education Officers which used the Pearson correlation in the analysis. The study revealed that a teacher’s academic qualification obtained through education had no significant relationship with student’s academic performance in the respective subjects being measured by this study. The authors recommend that the Government of Ghana concentrate on providing continuing professional development (CPD) programmes that concentrate on practical situations in the schools and channel more resources to schools.

International Diabetes Federation states that in 2007 there were 246 million people in the world suffering from diabetes and it is expected to increase to 380 million by 2025. DM can cause susceptibility to infections in the human lung organs due to hyperglycemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the lung volume profile in the form of VT, VCI, VCE and VKP in the DM group and non DM group. This study uses a quantitative descriptive survey design with a sample of 60 people, consisting of 30 people from the DM group and 30 people from the Non DM group. The statistical test used in this study is the Independent statistical sample t-test, the Mann-Whitney test and the Pearson correlation. The results showed: (1) There was a significant difference in the DM of the DM group and the Non DM group with p = 0.021 (p <0.05); (2) There were significant differences in VT, VCI, VCE of the DM group and Non DM group with significant values ​​of VT (p = 0,000 <0.05), VCI (p = 0.003 <0.05) and VCE (p = 0.001 <0.05); (3) There was no significant difference in the VKP of the DM group and the Non DM group with p = 0.805 (p <0.05); (4) Relationship between GD and VT (r = 0.220), GD with VCI (r = 0.308), GD with VCE (r = -0.110), GD with VKP (r = 0.219). So it was concluded that there was a positive relationship between GD and VT, VCI, VKP and also there was a negative relationship between GD and VCE. Suggestion: DM sufferers need to conduct routine checks so that health remains well controlled

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of railway network inefficiencies on business operations of Tata chemicals Magadi, Mombasa in Kenya.Methodology: This study adopted a descriptive survey design. The target population of this study was the 450 employees of TATA Chemical Magadi Ltd. The study used a sample of 135 employees. The study employed stratified random sampling to identify the 135 respondents. The strata were those of top management, middle management/supervisors and non-managerial employees. Primary data was used to gather information by use of questionnaires. Information was sorted, coded and input into the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS 20) for production of descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: Results on the analysis of variance showed that the overall model was statistically significant and that the independent variables were good predictors of performance.  This was supported by an F statistic of 71.69 and the reported p value (0.000) which was less than the conventional probability of 0.05significance level. Descriptive results indicated that inefficiencies of Kenya Railway Corporation greatly affect production targets, customer satisfaction, sales targets and equipment utilization in Tata chemicals Magadi Ltd which in turn affects the performance of the company.Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The government should allocate additional annual budget to the Kenya Railways Corporation to provide efficient means of transporting freight between cities and towns. Additionally, management of Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd should exercise stronger leadership to enhance long term planning and disaster management to avoid loss to customers and manage its efficiency.

Teachers’ geometric thinking is crucial to teaching efficacy in geometry since teacher knowledge or thinking serves as a basis for the quality of instruction provided for students’ learning. Teachers’ thinking about geometry has attracted much attention among mathematics education researchers. This study therefore aimed at assessing elementary pre-service teachers’ geometric thinking within the first three levels of van Hiele’s model. The study was guided by three objectives. The objectives were to (1) assess the distribution of van Hiele’s geometric thinking among the study participants, (2) determine if the participating pre-service teachers’ geometric thinking is significant for teaching geometry, and (3) find out if any difference in geometric thinking of the pre-service teachers existed with regard to gender. The study used the descriptive survey design. The study participants were prospective mathematics teachers drawn from four Colleges of Education in the Bono Region and Ashanti Region of Ghana. The Colleges were randomly selected for the study. The study participants comprised 217 pre-service teachers. The van Hiele’s test instrument was adapted and pilot tested to assess the internal consistency of the items in the various levels. The calculated reliability coefficient of the instrument ranged from 0.71 to 0.74. The instrument was administered to the study participants on the scheduled date. Data generated from the participants were analysed based on the study objectives. Findings from the analyses show that pre-service teachers have limited geometric thinking within the first three levels. However, their geometric thinking of the levels assessed was found to be significant which could have some impact on teaching geometry. Findings also reveal gender differences in pre-service mathematics geometric thinking. It is recommended that conscious effort must be made by mathematics teacher educators in the Colleges of Education to deepen the pre-service mathematics teachers’ geometric thinking.

This study set out to examine the effect of root and tuber technologies adoption among cooperative farmers in Imo State ADP. Four specific objectives and hypotheses were examined and tested. Descriptive survey design was adopted. Taro Yamane sampling techniques was used to determine a sample size of 113 from the population of 338. A simple percentage/frequency distribution model and mean model were used to analyze specific objectives while linear regression model was used to test hypotheses 1 and 4 while Pearson correlation model with Z-Test was used to test hypotheses 2–3. Findings revealed that various varieties and technologies promoted in the area by Root and Tuber Extension Programme - ADP were ABANA 85, ADAKA 96 and EKPE 88 for Yam, while TMS 305SS, TMS 30 and TMS 30572 for Cassava. Comparatively the income levels of the farmers after adoption was significantly improved and they expressed satisfaction with the use of RTEP technologies. The study concluded that a significant relationship exists between the level of adoption and the level of awareness of RTEP – ADP Technologies by cooperative farmers and accessibility of RTEP- ADP technologies in the study area put together. Recommendations were made based on findings which include improved farming technologies by ADP should always be made available to the farmers at a far reduced or subsidized costs to encourage more farmers to access it, also adequate information for training on production, processing and marketing of their farm produce should be made available most especially at the farmers' cooperative society level among others.

The main aim of this study was to investigate the use of ICT in teaching Kiswahili plays in secondary schools as a way of cultivating interest and positive attitude towards drama at an early age. The objectives of the study were: To ascertain whether teachers of Kiswahili play have ICT skills for teaching Kiswahili plays and to examine attitude of teachers of Kiswahili towards integration of ICT in teaching Kiswahili plays The study used social learning theory by Bandura and the functionalism theory by John Dewey. The study employed a descriptive survey design to answer the research questions. Stratified sampling was used to categorize schools in to boys, girls, mixed schools, day and boarding schools. Simple random sampling was applied to select 275 students from a total of 918 students. The study used focus group discussion, questionnaires for teachers and students to collect data and interviews to provide further information on the teacher’s attitude on the use of ICT in teaching Kiswahili play and observation. The study showed limited use of ICT in teaching and learning of Kiswahili play and it adds up into the pool of existing knowledge and is beneficial to teachers since it gives suggestion on the best combination to motivate and arouse interest of teaching and also to the teacher training institutions in preparing teachers to adequately use ICT in instruction in classroom level and also to the curriculum developers.
