<p>Quartz sand deposit Ravno is the biggest quartz sand deposit in the Dolenjska region in Slovenia with an area of 1.25 km2. Quartz sand at the site is selectively excavated using mechanical methods. Presently, at the processing plant near the deposit, the main final mineral processing technique is flotation. Prior to the flotation, quartz sand undergoes classification and attrition. Final products produced at the plant are natural sand, washed sand and floated sand.<br>Recently, mining companies have been turning to simpler processing systems, such as gravity concentration, due to the price increase of floatation reagents, simplicity of the process and lower environmental impact.<br>Overview of the deposit and current methods used in the processing plant are presented, as a prologue to further work on the process alteration possibilities – a change from flotation to gravity concentration.</p>

The system of organizational and economic conditions, that precede to the making a decision regarding the transition of mineral processing plant to developing the technogenic deposits reserves was defined. The results of mineral processing plant activity were analyzed on the background of tendencies of manganese ore products international trade. The algorithm of organization of small and large mining companies activity on projects of technogenic deposits exploitation was developed.

An overview of the production and usage of quartz sand as a special sort of sand for civil engineering is presented – from the formation of sand deposits, through mining and processing methods, to its final use, with an emphasis on its use in civil engineering, i.e. in water filtration. Quartz is found in sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. During sand formation in the fluvial environment, quartz grains are highly resistant to weathering and mechanical wear, and can be transported a long way without changes to size and form. Therefore, quartz is the main constituent of most natural sands. Quartz and quartz sand are ubiquitous raw materials used in a wide range of products in civil engineering due to their chemical inertia and high temperature resistance. An example of a quartz sand deposit and processing plant in Slovenia is presented as a practical case study on quartz sand application. The described applications using quartz sand are the best available technologies in sanitary and hydraulic engineering to be used for a move towards a circular economy, smart houses, and smart cities.

In this short communication it is shown that it is possible to undertake inexpensive but useful preliminary mineral studies using single–wire HGMS. Such studies enable an assessment to be made of the viability of HGMS as a large-scale processing technique for particular mineral slurries.

The main elements can be recovered for mineral processing in a mineral containing titanium of Baoding area were Ti, Fe and V, and the elements in the main gangue minerals were Si and Al. Gravity concentration, gravity concentration-high intensity magnetic separation and gravity concentration-flotation tests were performed on the ore sample respectively. The results showed that, in the test of shaking table, when the grinding fineness was -0.074mm 93%, the productivity of concentrate can reach 32.24%; when grinding fineness was -0.074mm 93%, after gravity concentration-magnetic separation, 30.25% of concentrate productivity can be attained; when the grinding fineness was -0.074mm 85%, after gravity concentration-flotation, the productivity of concentrate was 3.31%. Maybe it's the condition of the tests wasn't controlled well, especially adjusting pH value in the flotation stage, it's hard to control, so the results were not very good.

Old environmental loads are priority environmental problems in Slovakia. An old environmental load is an anthropogenic constituent in landscape which has its origin in past works (for example mining and mineral processing) but in present time it can also pose risk for the environment. One of environmental loads in Slovakia is sludge bed in Slovinky. Village Slovinky is well-known for mining activities during several centuries. From the beginning copper ore was mined there, later on iron ore which was processed in the metallurgical factory in Krompachy. The mining activity in Slovinky was stopped in 1993. Flotation slurry from ore treatment plant was deposited on the sludge bed which was operated from 1968 to 1999. More than 4.8 million cubic meters of slurry is deposited there. Locality of Slovinky is included in State Remediation Program of Environmental Loads (2010-2015). The paper summarizes the actual state of knowledge about environmental impact of mineral processing and theoretical analysis of problem of environmental impact of environmental load – sludge bed in Slovinky. Experimental part of the paper is focused on study of possibilities of elimination of heavy metals in sludge bed material with the aim of improvement of the environmental quality of surveyed locality.

In this article, the results of a methodology to perform the elemental analysis of samples from mining borehole samples using the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) technique are presented. The developed method can be carried out either on powder and on slurry samples, which would comparable to the samples obtained in a mineral processing plant.
