Culture is the identification of a person or community’s origin. It is a set of values taught since birth and implemented throughout living. The variation of culture in the global setting is vast and allows other cultures to be affected by another. Filipino culture is very rich and passed down through generations, but Filipinos find it necessary to live and work away from their homeland. This study aims to prove the cultural ramifications experienced by the Filipino diaspora through selected Filipino movies. Anak, Barcelona, Dubai, and Milan shed light on the experiences of Filipino people overseas, especially their sufferings and sacrifices. With the guidance of Rank, Freire, and Propp, cultural ramification was observed in the portrayal of the selected movies which are not far from the real experiences of the Filipino diaspora.

The texts of Leslie Kaplan question the irreducible opposition between the real and the non-real. Her characters and their intentional absence confuse the repository and fictional worlds, not only to point out the thin margin between reality and fiction, but to underline the impossible delimitation between the real and the fictional, or even between the text and the world. This article studies the characters of Kaplan and aims to demonstrate their identity crisis through the study of their literary onomastic and the use of the neutral pronoun ‘it’ and allegoric expressions. In addition, the objective of this article is to shed light on the Kaplanian characters as Kunderian models, while stressing the particularity of their physionomy, which consists to present ‘fuzzy’ characters that are present and absent at the same time, engaging the reader in the fictional process as a try to complete the missing details. This article concludes that the Kaplanian characters are not only the prototypes of the postmodern being, but they are also introverted, psychopaths and a demonstration of different facets of the unconscious.

We study the interactions between innovation and economic growth in G20 countries over 1961–2019. We establish whether there is a temporal causality between these two variables. Employing the autoregressive distributive lag framework, our results expose a grid of short-run and long-run causal relationships between innovation and growth, including long-run unidirectional causality from innovation to economic growth. Overall, our findings shed light on the real effects of innovation on economic growth. JEL Codes: O38, O31, O32

Vasile Aaron (1780-1821) had an important contribution to the modernization of the Romanian literature. He was also the representative of the Transylvanian Enlightenment School. One of his works which is worth mentioning is Reporta din vis (Reporta in his dream), a meditation upon the ephemeral human life. Here, the author brought in elements of novelty such as the “dream-in-a-dream” images, the pre-Romantic motif of the ruins or the first fantastic descriptions in the Romanian poetical works. All Aaron´s literary and social activity reflected the specific features of his age. The complete studies written by Liliana Popa and Nicolae Popa shed light upon Aaron’s life and work and they showed the real dimensions of his personality.

Abstract In the contemporary theological landscape Filipino theology has remained marginal compared to Latin-American theologies. Hence, this paper attempts to present Bahala Na as a Filipino articulation of Astley’s Ordinary Theology in the context of Filipino diaspora. With this, we assert that the importance of ordinary Filipino migrants’ input in the current theological enterprise cannot be overlooked because the churches in the world are now phenomenally populated by the millions of Filipinos who possess a unique faith that has sustained them amidst the precariousness of their diasporic life. We believe that ignorance of this inculturated theology is ignorance of the real essence of “catholic” theology.

The paper seeks to contribute to the discussion among historians about the value, as historical sources, of foreign diplomats stationed in Russia. Two young men, Hildebrand von Horn, an envoy extraordinaire of the Danish king, and the Swede Johan Gabriel Sparwenfeld, a student of the Russian language and Russian affairs on a scholarship granted by the Swedish king, met in the Russian capital during the summer of 1684. They had met before—in1682 inCopenhagen—but this time their roles were quite different, as they were in Moscow as representatives of countries with opposite political aims vis-à-vis Russia. Von Horn was inRussiafor the third time, knew many influential people at court and mastered the Russian language. He kept Sparwenfeld informed about what was going on behind the scenes at court. This information was written down by Sparwenfeld in his diary of the Russian journey, published by the author of this paper in 2002. In July 1684 von Horn told Sparwenfeld about the execution of “a noble and learned Pole, Negrebetskii”. This person, Pavel Negrebetskii, had had an important position at court during the reign of Fyodor Alekseevich but lost his influence after the death of the Tsar. In August the two friends once more discussed Negrebetskii, his torture, and the role of I. M. Miloslavskii in his fate. Negrebetskii was accused of having taken part in a conspiracy against Sof’ia and her supporters in the aftermath of the streltsy uprising in May 1682. The torture was stopped by Vasilii Vasil’evich Golitsyn, and Negrebetskii was hastily and secretly taken to theRed Squareand executed. Why was Negrebetskii executed in this way two years after his stated crime? After discussing various aspects of the question, this paper gives a possible answer. It seems that the real reason was that Negrebetskii did not stop trying to make the Polish king intervene on Naryshkina’s side in the struggle for power between the Miloslavskii and Naryshkin clans. In connection with the arrival of an Austrian embassy in Moscow in May–June1684, anew possibility for Negrebetskii to get in contact with Poland offered itself in the person of the Habsburg resident in Warsaw, I. Zierowsky. Negrebetskii, it seems, took advantage of the opportunity and tried to send a letter with Zierowsky to the Polish king, begging the king for help and support of Naryshkina and her son. The letter was intercepted, and Sof’ia and Miloslavskii decided to get rid of the irritating Pole once and for all. His execution also gave a clear signal to Peter’s supporters that their previous plans were known and that their activities were under surveillance. It was not possible to touch the main actors in the unrealized conspiracy for political reasons; the most active among them was Vasilii Vasil’evich’s cousin, Boris Alekseevich Golitsyn. So, the entries in Sparwenfeld´s diary about nightly conversations between two foreigners in the Russian capital help to shed light on how and when Pavel Negrebetskii died, and, hopefully, also why.

Based mainly on an in-depth and multifaceted qualitative study of 24 purposely selected street working children in Dilla town, Southern Ethiopia, this study attempts to shed light on children’s use of streets as places of work, survival, socialization, play, learning and growth. Children see street work as a source of livelihood, evidence of agency, informal schooling, sense of responsibility and sphere of socialization. The study also shows that the discourse that views street working children as ‘out of place’ and ‘outside childhood’ is concerned more with defending the values of the writers rather than defending the real interests of the children involved. Children’s responsibilities for themselves and towards their families not only force them to be found at ‘wrong places’ but it also obliges them to engage in ‘wrong careers’. Children not only want freedom and play but they also want responsibility and respect for what they do and who they are, and work can bring both.

The sky rocketing growth in various industries were being witnessed due to the rapid advancement in technologies and innovation in a very short duration of time. A large percentage of the population had the capacity to change or replace appliances and gadgets with the new ones launching into the society. This resulted in discarding of the former equipments before reaching it’s end of life duration. Since industries designed and manufactured goods on a large scale, as a result, a lot of manufacturing industries especially those that manufactured electrical and electronics were expelling a lot of waste to the environment. These were the unsold goods and whose market values had dropped due to the newer products taking their place. This not only harmed the disposal grounds but also posed a serious risk to its components like flora, fauna and human beings as well. The paper discussed in brief, about the various steps and procedures that were undertaken to tackle the problem of e-waste management. Countries like Australia had policies implemented to be followed for the sake of waste management. Lastly, the real-life examples of few countries reflecting on how they shed light on issues when it comes to managing their respective wastes along with future predictions and estimations of e-waste.
