Selection of locations for collecting end of life goods is a multi-dimensional problem. In this study, the objective is to propose a hybrid multi-criteria decision model for e-waste collection center location selection problem employing an integrated Pythagorean fuzzy AHP (analytical hierarchy process)-VIKOR (multi-criteria optimization and compromise solution) methodology. A case study from Turkish e-waste recycling industry is conducted in order to verify the success of the proposed methodology. Thirty-nine alternative collection center districts are evaluated and ranked by employing Pythagorean fuzzy VIKOR based on “cost, logistics, environment, socio-culture, and population” and 11 sub-criteria. The study involves 39 e-waste collection location centers, and the model was solved for 50 times for 10 scenarios for each criterion. The results of sensitivity analysis indicate that the evaluation of criteria and determination of their weights have critical effects on the results.

Selecting a proper system of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a major challenge for enterprise managers. Heavy expenses of incorrect decisions in selection of ERP systems have made academics and managers consider this phase as highly important. Several research studies proposed different approaches to selecting the ERP and many case studies of organizational experiences have been published. However, there has been less regard for simultaneous use of the findings of academic studies and judgments of industrial experts or organization mangers for making the most appropriate choice. This study proposes a combined multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach through which both previous studies and judgments of industrial experts or organization managers would be integrated in order to select the proper ERP system. Having studied the literature comprehensively and conducted interviews with experts and managers, this approach will determine the most important criteria in ERP selection using Shannon entropy technique. Then, based on the judgments obtained from experts and using DEMATEL technique, these criteria will be classified into the two groups of “Cause” and “Effect” and the most appropriate choice will be selected using Fuzzy AHP technique. Finally, a case study is conducted to demonstrate and prove the applicability of the proposed approach.

The shipyard facility location selection (FLS) decision is a critical process that involves conflicting, qualitative, and quantitative criteria. Multi-Attribute Decision Making (MADM) methods are used as a powerful tool to overcome this complex problem. Today, using these methods in an integrated way, more accurate, efficient, and systematic results are obtained in solving complex issues such as FLS, which contains an uncertain structure. This paper proposes a framework for the weighting of criteria and ranking potential feasible locations (alternatives) using the combination of fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) methods. While fuzzy AHP determines the importance values of the criteria by pairwise comparisons, fuzzy TOPSIS prioritizes the alternatives using the relative weights obtained with Fuzzy AHP. The integration of these two techniques provides a robust approach considering the results obtained for the shipyard FLS decision. The applicability of the proposed method is expressed in Turkey by a case study of the shipyard FLS decision.

Evaluation and selection of a concrete production facility location is an important strategic decision making problems for both the public and private sector. The multi-dimensional, multi-criteria nature of the concrete production facility location problem limits the usefulness of any particular single objective model. In this study, social, economical, technological, environmental, and transportation factors and sub criteria have been derived to make the optimal concrete production facility location selection decision more realistic and effectual. This study shows an improved and appropriate concrete production facility location evaluation and selection model has been developed by integrating Modified Delphi and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) with Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. An example is presented to show applicability and performance of the proposed methodology followed by a sensitivity analysis to discuss and explain the results.

In environmental projects, decision-making can be a complex and challenging task due to the in-built existence of compromises between environmental, socio-political, and economic factors. This paper explores a systematic approach to developing a decision support concept that includes the analysis of wastewater treatment problems, knowledge acquisition, and the identification and evaluation of criteria that bring forth an optimal solution to the location selection of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The objective of this research is to develop a decision support concept (DSC) to aid in the planning phases of complex engineering projects, such as the construction of WWTP. The development of the concept starts with an assessment of the issue and an identification of relevant stakeholders accepting their different views and attitudes in an attempt to resolve this issue. The DSC was tested on a real case project—WWTP location selection within the town of Kutina, Croatia. Results indicate that it is possible to develop such a concept based on multicriteria methods on which decision-makers can rely.
