Background: Heavy metals are the natural constituents of the earth's crust but the indiscriminate human activities have drastically effected their biochemical balance and geochemical cycles. Heavy metals and their compounds have pharmacological importance. These are being used in south Asian countries as component of different medicines. These medicines may have serious side effects on liver. Objectives: To see the histological changes of Kushta which contains mercury, on liver of wister rats. Material and Methods: It was an animal experimental study in which a total of 42 Wistar rats were included and divided into five exposed and one control groups. Morphological changes were observed in liver of rats by using indigenous as well as patent mercury preparations. Results: Morphological changes in liver of exposed rats included hepatocyte swelling, hepatocyte necrosis, hepatocyte apoptosis, disarray of hepatic architecture, development of portal tract inflammation, central vein congestion, sinusoidal congestion and dilatation, development of fatty change and damage to hepatic vascular and liver capsule were seen at the end of 8 weeks. Conclusions: Indigenous herbo-mineral preparation (Kushta) of mercury produces deleterious morphological effects on liver of wister rats. Keywords: Mercury Kushta, Liver, Histopathology

The aim of this work was to study the distribution of heavy metals and of subsequently developed morphological changes in the liver of female mice and their foetuses after oral administration of high doses of lead, mercury, and cadmium (0.03 mg of metal per mouse and day). Heavy metals were administered to pregnant female mice on days 9-20 of pregnancy. The animals were euthanised by cervical dislocation. Samples of mother and foetal liver were subsequently collected and processed by means of the common technique for light and electron microscopy. Histochemical reaction based on metal conversion into appropriate sulphide that conjugates with silver was used for detection of heavy metals. Deposits of heavy metals were found at the periphery of lobules of the central vein in the liver of female mice. On the contrary, in the liver of foetuses no predilection site for localisation of the reaction product could be identified. At the electron microscopy level, accumulation of heavy metals was connected as a rule with the occurrence of certain damage to some organelles. Deposits of the reaction product were located mainly in hepatocytes and Kupffer cells. Heavy metals were bound to the heterochromatin of cell nuclei, as well as to some cytoplasmic organelles, such as rough endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, ribosomes, and lysosomes. The presence of heavy metals was associated with obliteration of cisternae of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, separation of ribosomes, and destruction of lysosomes. Vacuolation of cell cytoplasm was also a frequent phenomenon. An interesting finding was the "contrasting" of structures containing nucleic acids. Accumulation of metals in the liver of pregnant mice and their foetuses observed in our study indicated that placental barrier does not protect the foetal organism against penetration of metals. Their higher accumulation in foetal compared to maternal liver can be explained by the intense metabolism of differentiating hepatocytes.

Cardiac disease is the leading cause of death, and sudden cardiac death occupies the first place in sudden deaths of natural causes. Sudden cardiac death due to lethal arrhythmia may be the first manifestation of a cardiac disease, such cases becoming suspect dead, thus forensic cases. The autopsy performed in such cases may reveal important cardiovascular disease but not obvious macroscopic or histological changes of acute myocardial infarction (IMA), except for cases of survival for several hours after the onset of the symptomatology. Biochemical markers were used to test for myocardial lesions in the absence of morphological changes. Methods for determining myoglobin, CK-MB, troponin T (cTn T), troponin I (cTn I) were introduced to the clinic to diagnose the condition of patients with chest pain as early as the 1990s. The lack of pathognomonic elements in corps investigations, where part of the analysis cannot be carried out, requires verification of the value of the investigations that can be carried out, with reference to the biochemical in the present case, in establishing the diagnosis with certainty.

Background: Diagnostic criteria for electrocution related death are still a challenge in forensic pathology and it seems that the electrical mark is the only reliable evidence. Methods: A comparison of histological and morphological findings of skin and internal organs from an autopsy series of electrocution deaths with those mostly reported in literature as representative for electrocution. Results: The morphological changes of heart, brain and other main internal organs are still unspecific. Organ’s damage observed in electrocution deaths shows a wide variability, not reliable for a certain diagnosis of electrocution. The electrical mark is still the golden standard for diagnosis of electrocution. Conclusions: In electrocution related deaths, pathological findings of the main internal organs are not enough evidence to support with certainty a post-mortem diagnosis that a victim suffered an electrical damage. Although the organ histological changes are undoubtedly the starting point for a better understanding of the fatal even, the diagnosis of death from electrical damage is still a dark and unsolved chapter. The electrical mark still represents a fundamental indicator above all in the medical-legal field, but the identification of pathognomonic elements and signs not limited to the skin alone could be a valid help in the future, especially in unclear cases.

In the present study, the effects of brake pad particles of lung and liver histological sections were evaluated for (60) adult male mice. The animals were divided into three groups ( A,B,C) according to the periods of exposure (4, 8, and 12) weeks respectively exposed to brake pad particles in addition to the control groups (F) exposed to fresh air only. A special inhalation chamber designed locally has been used to expose the animals. The exposure to brake pad particles was (2.228) µg/m³ for 30 min/day, 5 days/week for (4,8and12) weeks respectively. The examination in group (A) of the histological sections of the lung showed the thickness of interalveolar septa.  Also, a congestion of alveolar capillary was marked indicating pulmonary emphysema. The infiltration of alveolar macrophages showed the engulfed foreign particles (pad particles) within their cytoplasm, and peribronchial fibrosis. Group (B) showed the presence of pad particles (anthracosis), whereas the bronchial tree showed bronchitis with the bronchus-hyperplasia of mucin-producing cells (epithelial hyperplasia). Still another section showed an infiltration of mononuclear leukocytes and focal lobar necrosis. The third group (C), in turn, revealed acute interstitial bronchopneumonia with peribronchial focal necrosis and mild pulmonary edema with alveolar anthracosis. As regards the liver, group (A) showed mild central venous congestion. Group (B), on the other hand, gave acute hepatitis, congestion of the central vein hyaline degeneration and mitotic figure having 2-3 nuclei. Severe congestion of the central vein with vascular amyloid deposition and most of the hepatocytes revealed coagulate necrosis in group (C). These changing tissues increased with increasing the exposure periods and were clearer in group (C) which was exposed for 12 weeks. The continuous exposure to brake pad particles lead to damaging important body organs tissues and effect on human health, these particles can be considered as a type of pollutants added to air pollutants in different cities of Iraq.

<em>Mercury concentrations were recorded in water and tissue of Barytelphusa cunicularis from Pimpalwadi site (Jaikwadi Dam) near Aurangabad. The level of heavy metals in the ovary and spermatheca of crabs was investigated using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The mean concentration of mercury in the crab was 0.9 ±0.001 µg/g. A histopathological alteration in ovary and spermatheca was also studied. Several histological changes were noted in the ovary tissue i. e. Distortion of yolk granules, vacuolization, slight necrosis in the oocytes in the ovary and vacuolization observe in lumen, granular substances, sperm mass and spermathecal fluid was evenly distributed in the crab was observed after exposed to sublethal concentration (24<sup>th</sup> of LC<sub>50</sub>:1/5<sup>th</sup> 0.208 ppm) of mercuric chloride.</em>

            The present study aimed to investigate the histological changes of heart, lung, liver and kidney which caused by different concentrations (10, 20 and 40 mg/kg) of Ivabradine. Results of the study revealed some histological changes represented by aggregation of the lymphocytes around respiratory bronchioles of the lung. In the liver, the drug caused hepatocyte necrosis and infiltration of the lymphocytes. In Kidney, there are no histopathological modifications in the tissue after the animals treated with 10 mg\kg of Ivabradine. When the animals treated with Ivabradine drug at 20mg/kg of bw, dose showed vascular congestion between myocardial fibers of heart. Emphysematous changes of the alveoli and infiltration of lymphocytes around respiratory bronchioles of lung. In the liver there were dilated blood sinusoids. Also, there are vascular congestion and congestion of capillaries in the glomerular of kidney. Male mice treated with Ivabradine drug at 40 mg/kg of bw cause increase spaces between myocardial fibers, cardiac atrophy and myocardial degeneration in the heart. In addition, there are infiltration of lymphocytes around respiratory bronchioles, pulmonary congestion and emphysematous changes of the alveoli in lung. In the liver, the drug cause amyloid deposition and degeneration of hepatocytes. Furthermore, the drug caused vascular congestion in the kidney. Conclusion: From the current study, we conclude that the different concentrations of Ivabradine caused tissue changes in the heart, lung, liver and kidneys. The study should continue using different drugs and concentrations.

The issue of pathological and histological changes in the kidneys in children with various infections and other diseases cannot be considered sufficiently researched and worked out. Only in certain infections (scarlet fever) has much attention been paid to the study of the kidneys. Most of the works on the issue of interest to us date back to the time when, on the one hand, insufficient importance was attached to the early dissection of corpses and the freshness of the material, which, as is now known, is of particular importance for the histology of the kidney, on the other hand, such interpretation of the detected changes, which do not correspond to the views and concepts of modern nephropathology; Finally, those changes in views on some diseases that have occurred to date, for example, in the issue of disorders of digestion and nutrition in infants, dictate the need for a different approach to the study of renal changes in these diseases.

1 A dithiol chelating agent-2,3-dimercapto-1-propane-sulphonate (DMPS)- may be administered in acute or chronic intoxication with certain heavy metals (e.g. cadmium, cobalt, lead) that may cause cardiotoxicity. 2 DMPS can act as a depleter of physiologically important elements (e.g. potassium, magnesium, calcium) in various tissues including cardiac one. The possibility of subsequent alteration in cardiac function cannot be excluded. 3 Changes in the myocardial concentration of the abovementioned elements at the end of the experiment and cardiac function were studied during repeated I.V. administration of DMPS as single doses of 50 mg/kg/ week for 10 weeks in rabbits. Biochemical, haemato-logical and histological examinations were also performed. 4 Most of the measured parameters were not affected by the repeated administration of DMPS. A significant decrease in magnesium and a near significant decrease in calcium in cardiac muscle was not accompanied by functional or morphological changes. It is still suggested, however, that care should be taken in using DMPS for treating patients with cardiotoxicity as a result of poisoning with heavy metals.

(1) Background: Regular exercise induces physiological and morphological changes in the organisms, but excessive training loads may induce damage and impair recovery or muscle growth. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the impact of Silymarin (SM) consumption on endurance capacity, muscle/cardiac histological changes, bodyweight, and food intake in rats subjected to 60 min of regular exercise training (RET) five days per week. (2) Methods: Male Wistar rats were subjected to an eight-week RET treadmill program and were previously administered SM and vitamin C. Bodyweight and food consumption were measured and registered. The maximal endurance capacity (MEC) test was performed at weeks one and eight. After the last training session, the animals were sacrificed, and samples of quadriceps/gastrocnemius and cardiac tissue were obtained and process for histological analyzes. (3) Results: SM consumption improved muscle recovery, inflammation, and damaged tissue, and promoted hypertrophy, vascularization, and muscle fiber shape/appearance. MEC increased after eight weeks of RET in all trained groups; moreover, the SM-treated group was enhanced more than the group with vitamin C. There were no significant changes in bodyweight and in food and nutrient consumption along the study. (5) Conclusion: SM supplementation may enhance physical performance, recovery, and muscle hypertrophy during the eight-week RET program.
