AbstractIt is widely accepted that drug misuse and addictive behaviours havenegative consequences in different areas of family life. Many family members can show psychological, psychosomatic, affective, economic disturbances…, but it is true as well that family dynamics can infl uence addictive behaviours and their treatment. In this paper this reciprocal infl uence and the role of family in social integration of addicted patients are discussed.

The Middle East is a growing, lucrative marketplace that has recently captured the interest of the world for political as well as economic reasons due to the War in Iraq, which began in 2003. This exploratory study examines the relationship between retail small/medium enterprises (SMEs) that are family business owned, organizational commitment, and management and employee perceptions of customer service on a number of dimensions. The results suggest that managers and employees of family-owned businesses in the Middle East behave in ways similar to those in Western countries; however, there are differences, probably related to cultural characteristics. The Middle East is a richly diverse region, a myriad of unique cultures. As the market becomes more sophisticated, the importance of service quality increases. Global retailers can benefit from this study by better understanding the managers and employees in the region and the pivotal role of the family on business. Implications for practice are discussed.

This article examines how legal immigrants
integrate in the Greek labor market. The
analysis is based on the results of an
empirical research which was carried out in
three Greek cities, namely, Athens, Saloniki
and Ioannina, in 2006 and 2007. The research
took place in the framework of a research
programme evaluating the migrant policy in
Greece as an implementation of the European
Strategy for Employment. This article focuses
on the ultimate role of legitimization in the
processes of the immigrants’ entrance in the
labour market and their integration in Greek
society. The fi ndings show that stay permits
plays little infl uence or no infl uence on the
work and employment integration, but a
strong infl uence on the family re-unifi cation.
That is, the title of stay infl uences family
existence and maintenance, as well as child
achievement at school, but it does not help at
changing the occupational status or fi nding a
better job in the labor market. In the end, the
title of stay affects social integration in the
long run.

In regards to the next five to ten years, the erosion of the international rule of law and the laws of war, as well as the violent struggle over territorial integrity, self-determination and role of kin-states will probably be the most important threats for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. Other challenges are increasing incentives for an international arms race coupled with the introduction of new modes of warfare, as well as the spill over of the brutal conflicts in the region of Middle East and North Africa, the rising aggressiveness of authoritarian systems, looming trade and energy confrontations and the failures of social integration and inequality.

The aim of this article is to clarify the role of the organisations that support skilled migrants after a relocation, using the analytical concept of migration industry. The concept is used as a tool to explore the gap between the macro and the micro levels and by that stresses the crucial meso-level when it comes to conceptualizing (skilled) migration. I use 30 semi-directive interviews with skilled migrants and six interviews with key informants in the migration industry as a basis for the analysis, leading me to distinguish three main services at the heart of this industry. Each service is covered by distinct private actors: the basic needs of the family by relocation offices, the education of the children by international schools, and the careers of the partner by outplacement agencies.
