This paper analyzes the role of information system in linking management accounting (MA) and financial accounting (FA). We employ a survey by focusing on Vietnam firms applying information systems to their accounting activities. The findings indicate eight roles of information system such (1) as facilitator, (2) as catalyst, (3) as motivator, (4) as enabler of linking MA and FA, (5) by decreasing the linkage costs, (6) improving the linkage quality, (7) enhancing accountant’s the role, and (8) controlling the linkage between MA and FA. For managerial implications, we propose some recommendations for improving the role of information system in linking MA and FA. In the coming time, Vietnam firms should drastically improve information systems by using accounting software and enhancing their accountants’ qualification.

There are several different views of the role of information systems. Two of the most important are the data view and the communicative view. According to the data view, the primary purpose of an information system is to provide a model of a domain, thereby enabling people to obtain information about reality by studying the model. In this respect, an information system works as a repository of data that reflects the structure and behaviour of an enterprise, and the system provides data that can be used for decisions about the enterprise. In contrast, the communicative view states that the major role of an information system is to support communication within and between organisations by structuring and coordinating the actions performed by organisational agents. The system is seen as a medium through which people can perform social actions, such as stating facts, making promises, and giving orders.

Over the years , Information System has advanced so much that we are able to operate better in an organization which is better than what used to happen in the past. Information Systems derived from the term data processing. The purpose of Information Systems is to provide efficient and reliable ways on how to perform functions in an organization. Computers have important role in evolution of Information System. There have been a lot of applications of Information System in the organizations today including human resource operation as the main field of concern, accounting and  finance, logistics and planning among others. Internet is the recent development in the use of Information.  Studies have been carried out on Information System and its application but none of the studies have looked at the role Information System plays in typical organizational operational functions especially in the Human Resource Operations. This therefore leaves the gap in research that this paper sought to breach. The study is conducted through analysis of literature review from journals, and surveys. The paper therefore recommends that organizations should apply Information Systems in Human Resources operations  in order to reap these benefits.

This study examines the role of information systems (IS) on environmental sustainability by gaining an understanding of how benefits may be realized from using IS in a green context (a particular IS, regional mesonet (RM) equipped with information- and communication-based technologies and a comprehensive information system) through the use of duel approaches: a survey (214 respondents) and a case study (six interviews of stakeholders of a RM). Our results provide evidence how IS use contributes to different goals at different levels of sustainability and advance knowledge of utilizing IS for providing actual as well as anticipated benefits to sustainability. In addition, our findings provide suggestions on how successful IS might be used to further induce actions and advance goals of environmental sustainability that can contribute to energy policy-making.
