Objective: This study aimed to examine and identify specific stressors for charge nurses at a rural Midwestern hospital. Methods: The Charge Nurses Stress Questionnaire (CNSQ) was administered to charge nurses of all units at a small Midwestern hospital. A total of 30 charge nurses completed the survey. The charge nurses completed 25 questions on four stress subscales, in addition to 11 demographic questions. Results: Study results revealed the highest stressors were primarily related to being unable to meet patient needs. This situation includes when a nurse cannot reach the provider when an urgent patient need arises; when the unit is at capacity with high acuity patients and receives notification another patient has been assigned to the unit; and when the patient is in pain or otherwise suffering, and care is delayed because orders are needed. Conclusions: Stress was noted by all charge nurses. The levels of different stressors from subscales correlate with each other, and thus an increase in one subscale of stress directly affects the level of stress of another subscale. The level of stress among charge nurses was not statistically significant among the nurses of different age, different units, different shifts, and different years of experience.

The study aimed to reveal attitudes in primary school teachers and their female teachers in the Mubarak Al-Kabeer educational district in Kuwait towards the teaching profession in light of some variables. To achieve the study's objectives, the researcher chose a random sample consisting of (400) teachers, and the researcher also designed a questionnaire consisting of (50) A paragraph that was judged, and the necessary honesty and consistency were given to it. The study found that all members of the study sample had a negative attitude towards the teaching profession and found no statistically significant difference between the average grades of primary school teachers and their teachers according to their literary and scientific specializations in the direction towards the teaching profession. In contrast, the study results showed that there are statistically significant differences between the average grades of teachers and the degrees of teachers towards the teaching profession and for the benefit of female teachers. The results also showed statistically significant differences for years of experience and in favor of those with experience (less than five years) in the direction towards the teaching profession. Therefore, the study recommended that the opportunity for teachers with long experience be given encouraging opportunities, motivation, and working to inform them of their importance, assigning them to tasks that satisfy their needs and desires, as well as spreading the spirit of respect for the teaching profession in the hearts of members of society as well as in the hearts of teachers who practice the profession of teaching.   Received: 2 September 2021 / Accepted: 30 October 2021 / Published: 5 November 2021

BackgroundResident work hour restrictions have led to the creation of the ‘night float’ to care for the patients of multiple primary teams after hours. These residents are often inundated with acute issues in the numerous patients they cover and are less able to address non-urgent issues that arise at night. Further, non-urgent pages may contribute to physician alarm fatigue and negatively impact patient outcomes.ObjectiveTo delineate the burden of non-urgent paging at night and propose solutions.MethodsWe performed a resident review and categorisation of 1820 pages to night floats between September 2014 and December 2014. Both attending and nursing review of 10% of pages was done and compared.ResultsOf reviewed pages, 62.1% were urgent and 27.7% were non-urgent. Attending review of random page samples correlated well with resident review. Common reasons for non-urgent pages were non-urgent patient status updates, low-priority order requests and non-critical lab values.ConclusionsA significant number of non-urgent pages are sent at night. These pages likely distract from acute issues that arise at night and place an unnecessary burden on night floats. Both behavioural and systemic adjustments are needed to address this issue. Possible interventions include integrating low-priority messaging into the electronic health record system and use of charge nurses to help determine urgency of issues and batch non-urgent pages.

The present research aimed at evaluating the teaching performance of Mathematics teachers in Thamar city schools in Yemen during the war in light of the effective teacher evaluation model for (Marzano). To achieve this aim, the descriptive approach was employed, and a note-card was developed based on the criteria and indicators of the special strategies and behavior originating from the effective evaluation model for teacher developed by (Marzano). This card consisted of (41) indicators distributed on three sections, and it was applied to a cluster-random sampling on (64) Mathematics teachers in Thamar primary and secondary schools. The study results revealed that the overall performance of participants was on average. Similarly, the results revealed that the level of performance of the participants in both routine skills and immediate skills was on average. However, the results showed that there was a low level of performance in skills pertinent to the content. The study results showed statistically significant differences in the level of teaching performance of Mathematics teachers for the variable (type the school) and in favor of private school teachers. The study results also showed that there were statistically significant differences in the level of teaching performance of Mathematics teachers for the variable (gender), in favor of the female teachers. In addition, the study results showed that there were statistically significant differences in the level of teaching performance of Mathematics teachers for the variable (years of experience) and in favor of teachers whose experience is less than (5) years, and those whose experiences ranged between (5-10) years, compared to teachers whose experiences were more than (10) years of experience, Conducting professional development courses for mathematics teachers in accordance with the criteria of effective teacher evaluation, neutralizing educational institutions from war and disbursing teachers’ salaries.

ObjectivesTo describe the association between participant profession and the number and type of latent safety threats (LSTs) identified during in situ simulation (ISS). Secondary objectives were to describe the association between both (a) participants’ years of experience and LST identification and (b) type of scenario and number of identified LSTs.MethodsEmergency staff physicians (MDs), registered nurses (RNs) and respiratory therapists (RTs) participated in ISS sessions in the emergency department (ED) of a tertiary care teaching hospital. Adult and paediatric scenarios were designed to be high-acuity, low-occurrence resuscitation cases. Simulations were 10 min in duration. A written survey was administered to participants immediately postsimulation, collecting demographic data and perceived LSTs. Survey data was collated and LSTs were grouped using a previously described framework.ResultsThirteen simulation sessions were completed from July to November 2018, with 59 participants (12 MDs, 41 RNs, 6 RTs). Twenty-four unique LSTs were identified from survey data. RNs identified a median of 2 (IQR 1, 2.5) LSTs, significantly more than RTs (0.5 (IQR 0, 1.25), p=0.04). Within respective professions, MDs and RTs most commonly identified equipment issues, and RNs most commonly identified medication issues. Participants with ≤10 years of experience identified a median of 2 (IQR 1, 3) LSTs versus 1 (IQR 1, 2) LST in those with >10 years of experience (p=0.06). Adult and paediatric patient scenarios were associated with the identification of a median of 4 (IQR 3.0, 4.0) and 5 LSTs (IQR 3.5, 6.5), respectively (p=0.15).ConclusionsInclusion of a multidisciplinary team is important during ISS in order to gain a breadth of perspectives for the identification of LSTs. In our study, participants with ≤10 years of experience and simulations with paediatric scenarios were associated with a higher number of identified LSTs; however, the difference was not statistically significant.

Objective: This study evaluated the reproducibility of the Lauge-Hansen classification among orthopedic residents and more experienced orthopedists. Methods: The inclusion criteria were ankle fractures with adequate radiographs taken in anteroposterior (AP), true AP and P (profile) views, which were individually analyzed by physicians. The analysis was performed based on the Lauge-Hansen classification. The raters were 5 orthopedic professionals from our department: 3 residents and 2 board-certified orthopedists (one with less than 10 years of experience, and the other with more 10 years of experience in the field). The professionals first analyzed and classified 30 ankle fracture radiographs; then, after 1 week, they were asked to perform a new evaluation. The radiographs were shown without names or other identifying information. The classifications were subsequently examined based on the analysis of the supporting material that had been previously provided for each individual. A consensus decision regarding the classification was made among all professionals at the end of the study. Results: The professionals were asked to analyze radiographs from 30 patients with ankle fracture, among whom supination-external rotation was the most common diagnosis. The results were outlined in tables and plotted in graphs; in a second evaluation performed after 1 week, there were 66% hits and 34% errors, whereas the percentage of hits in the first evaluation was 61.33%. Conclusion: The routine use of management classifications by physicians facilitates the understanding of these classifications by other professionals in the field while increasing interobserver agreement.
