This research aims to study the direct and indirect influence of self-efficacy on organizational citizenship behavior transmitted through employee engagement, organizational commitment and job satisfaction, and to examine employee engagement, organizational commitment and job satisfaction as partial or full mediators. The study samples were 400 employees in the automobile parts manufacturing industry. The study instruments used by previous researchers were applied and back translation was conducted on all questionnaire items. Content validity and reliability was then tested prior to using them for data collection. Direct and indirect influences and mediators were analyzed with the Hayes Model 81 using the PROCESS Program. Results revealed that self-efficacy had a direct influence on organizational citizenship behavior with statistical significance, with an indirect influence transmitted through employee engagement, organizational commitment and job satisfaction. Employee engagement, organizational commitment and job satisfaction functioned as partial mediators between self-efficacy and organizational citizenship behavior with statistical significance. The model was based on the theory of self-efficacy to express organizational citizenship behavior. However, the study results showed that employee engagement, organizational commitment and job satisfaction play roles as mediators in transmission of effective organizational citizenship behavior. Therefore, these mediators are important factors that can accurately explain organizational citizenship behavior.

Terdapat banyak faktor yang berhubungan dengan engagement seseorang terhadap pekerjaan maupun perusahaan. Tidak hanya faktor yang bersumber dari diri seseorang, tetapi faktor yang bersumber dari luar juga dapat mempengaruhi engagement seseorang, dalam penelitian ini ialah self efficacy dan persepsi terhadap dukungan organisasi. Seseorang merasa terlibat dan totalitas kepada perusahaan apabila kedua faktor tersebut seimbang. Hipotesis mayor dalam ini penelitian ialah ada hubungan antara self efficacy dan persepsi dukungan organisasi dengan employee engagement. Subyek penelitian ini adalah karyawan di enam Rumah Sakit di Surabaya sebanyak 113 karyawan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan tiga skala yaitu skala employee engagement, skala self efficacy, dan skala persepsi terhadap dukungan organisasi. Pengujian terhadap hipotesis mayor dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis regresi ganda dan menunjukkan adanya hubungan signifikan antara self efficacy dan persepsi terhadap dukungan organisasi dengan employee engagement. Purpose The purpose of this paper was to assess empathy dimensions in Tunisian psychiatry trainees and to evaluate their relationship with relevant professional and extra-professional factors. Design/methodology/approach An online questionnaire survey was administered to the psychiatry trainees affiliated in the four faculties of medicine of Tunisia (n = 120). It comprised, in addition to sociodemographic and professional variables, the interpersonal reactivity index, a multidimensional instrument that evaluates perspective taking, empathic concern, personal distress and fantasy. Other self-report measures were used to assess emotion regulation, social support and self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Findings The response rate was 71%. Descriptive statistics showed that personal distress’ scores were lower than the other empathy dimensions’ scores. Perspective taking scores were negatively correlated with emotion regulation difficulties. Personal distress scores were positively correlated with emotion regulation difficulties. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that being an only child significantly contributed to perspective taking and having an extra-professional activity significantly contributed to less personal distress. Perceived stress, social support and having a master’s degree were significant predictors for empathic concern. Self-efficacy was a significant predictor of perspective taking, with emotion regulation difficulties mediating this relationship. Practical implications Interventions dedicated to improve psychiatry trainees’ empathy should focus not only on clinical practice and medical education but also on emotional support and recovery activities. Originality/value A unique feature of this study is the investigation of the potential impacts of emotion regulation difficulties and perceived self-efficacy on empathic abilities of psychiatry trainees.

High perceived academic self-efficacy influences both subject performance and emotions of the subject. In turn, dispositional empathy implies a social and emotional adaptability towards the subject itself and those around them. This study aimed to analyze the differences in the mean dispositional empathy factors (i.e., perspective taking, fantasy, empathic concern and personal distress) between future teachers with high and low perceived academic self-efficacy, as well as the predictive capacity of dispositional empathy on high perceived academic self-efficacy, and the correlations between both dimensions. For this, a sample of 805 Spanish students of the Faculties of Education of the Universities of Alicante and Murcia was recruited. The Escala de Autoeficacia Percibida Específica de Situaciones Académicas was used to assess perceived academic self-efficacy and the Interpersonal Reactivity Index was used to analyze the dimensions of dispositional empathy. It was observed that high academic self-efficacy is more likely to present in people with a high level of perspective taking and fantasy (OR = 1.06 and 1.09, respectively) and less for those with personal discomfort (OR = 0.86). The other analyzes provided the same conclusions. In conclusion, it is important to develop perceived academic self-efficacy in undergraduates and future teachers due to the consequences that can lead to their classrooms.

Purpose – This paper aims to investigate whether leaders whose transformational leadership behavior improves after training exhibit different psychological reactions compared to leaders whose leadership behavior does not improve. Design/methodology/approach – The authors followed 56 leaders taking part in a transformational leadership training program. Questionnaire measures of leaders’ self-efficacy, positive affect, perspective taking, and transformational leadership behavior were obtained pre- and post-training. Findings – Leaders whose self-efficacy, perspective taking and positive affect increased over the training period also reported improvements in their transformational leadership behavior. In addition, leaders whose positive affect increased were more likely to receive improved transformational leadership behavior ratings from their supervisors, team members and peers. Research limitations/implications – The study supports the proposition, derived from social cognitive theory that change in transformational leadership behavior is related to change in leaders’ psychological attributes. Further research is required to establish the direction of this relationship and whether leaders’ psychological reactions represent a means through which the effectiveness of leadership interventions can be improved. Practical implications – Leaders’ psychological reactions should be monitored and supported during developmental interventions. Effective leadership training interventions are important not only to achieve change in behavior, but to avoid negative psychological outcomes for leaders. Originality/value – The study is unusual because it explores the relationship between leader attributes and leadership behavior longitudinally, in a training context. The longitudinal analysis, focussing on change in leaders’ psychological attributes, allowed us to explain more variance in leaders’ reactions to training.

AbstractIntroduction: We aimed to examine whether student teachers’ tendency to test anxiety relates to their later perspective-taking tendency and self-efficacy. The purpose of the presented study was to obtain first insights into the relationship between test anxiety, perspective-taking, and self-efficacy tendencies in student teachers. These tendencies may determine student orientation across different situations. We tested the hypothesis that the test anxiety components emotionality and worry relate to later low perspective-taking and self-efficacy.Methods: We conducted a longitudinal study with 275 student-teachers and analyzed the obtained data using structural equation modeling.Results: The data analysis revealed that only emotionality is related to lower perspective-taking and self-efficacy in later life.Discussion: We conclude that lowering student teachers’ test anxiety emotionality (e.g. through interventions) would result to later increased perspective-taking tendency.Limitations: Participants attended the study voluntarily, so it was a self-selected sample. We employed a correlational design over two measurement times instead of experimental methods.Conclusions: The obtained results give an explanation of why student teachers focused rather on themselves than on school students in classes. The perspective-taking tendency is important for teachers’ student orientation. The role of perspective-taking in different teaching situations might be investigated in further research.

Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) Ministry of Law and Human Rights Republic of Indonesia is a supporting agency in the Ministry of Law and Human Rights which is in charge of developing human resources in the field of law and human rights. As a supporting unit for the main task of BPSDM, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Republic of Indonesia improves the quality of law and human rights apparatus to be professional and have a high level of engagement to provide excellent service. This study aims to analyse the effect of employee competence on employee work engagement mediated by self efficacy in Human Resoruces Development Agency (BPSDM) Ministry of Law and Human Rights Republic of Indonesia. The study involved 221 employee respondents at BPSDM Ministry of Law and Human Rights Republic of Indonesia for group III. Analysis of the data was using the LISREL Structural Equation Modelling of self-efficacy and employee engagement. The results showed that employee competency and self efficacy respectively have positive and significant direct effects on employee work engagement. Employee competency has a positive and significant direct effect on self efficacy, and employee competency has a positive and significant indirect effect on employee work engagement mediated by self efficacy. Implications of the results of this study, BPSDM Ministry of Law and Human Rights Republic of Indonesia needs to develop employee competency attributes that can improve self-efficacy. This needs to be done given that self-efficacy will affect the degree of engagement of BPSDM employees to the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
