The security of a company's information system (IS) is an important requirement for the pursuit of its business. Risk management contributes to the protection of the IS assets. It saves the organism from the losses caused by the emergence of unwanted events having an incidence on the IS objectives and consequently on its strategy. It has also an important role in the decision making about entering new opportunities. In addition, it promises an optimal allocation of information system resources. The risk management process aims to analyze what can happen and what are the eventual consequences for the organization before deciding what needs to be done and reducing the risks to an acceptable level. This paper presents a literature review of IS risk management and gives a comparative analyse of its processes, methods and standards.

AbstractThe article presents the essence and significance of risk management processes in the project, as the key field for successful completion of the project, in the field of project management. Based on literature review, the methods and standards of risk management in the project as well as standards related to process safety were defined. The risk management process according to the PMBoK methodology was discussed as an example of an international project entitled 3DCentral – Catalyzing Smart Engineering and Rapid Prototyping.

This study reviewed literature on the challenges faced by management in implementing audit recommendations and the risks involved in the non-implementation of the audit recommendations in parastatals. The study adopted a desk top approach. This included documentation of a comprehensive review of published and unpublished work from secondary sources of data of specific interest to the research. The researchers examined and discussed what different authorities say on the methodologies adopted in determining whether management and staff appreciates the significance and roles of the audit function in parastatals as well as determining the responsibility of management towards risk management process and the implementation of audit recommendations

All activities of a company involve risk. In order to achieve its objectives, an organization must identify, analyze, evaluate and then treat all significant risks. According to ISO international standards in the risk field, risk management can be applied to an entire organization, at its many areas and levels, at any time, as well as to specific functions, projects and activities. An effective risk management helps top management of an organization to make optimum decisions and to prevent losses. This paper proposes a new sustainable model for risk management—RiMM. The Sustainable Risk Management model is based on the Monte Carlo method (adapted for risk management process) that is known in the literature but not or very rare applied for this issue of controlling the risks in an organization. There are proposed aspects regarding the design of the model (in five detailed steps—every step with sub steps), a software implementation and an example of a case study that emphasizes the way the model can be used (also to demonstrate its efficiency) for managing risks in an organization. At the end, on conclusions section, the most important points and the contributions of the paper are clearly presented.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide a systematic literature review of available research evidence on risk management in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The authors aim to reveal ambiguities, gaps and contradictions in the literature, and to sketch avenues for further research. Design/methodology/approach – The authors follow the tenets of Tranfield et al. (2003) for conducting a systematic literature review. Following a key word search and an assessment of fit for this review, 27 papers were analyzed with respect to bibliographical information, research design and findings. Findings – The review identified various types of risks that may occur in SMEs. In addition, the publication analysis demonstrates the importance of a risk management process in SMEs and that the characteristics of SME owners have a significant impact on their business strategies. Research limitations/implications – Additional empirical research on risk identification, risk analysis, strategy implementation and control in the SME risk management process is needed. Originality/value – This paper is the first comprehensive review of the body of literature on risk management in SMEs.

International projects with teams in the virtual environment (IPTVE) are known as complex and high risk projects, these features being considered as significant obstacles to project success. Applying the appropriate risk management methodology could increase their success rate, becoming a fundamental tool for decision making. Research on IPTVE management risks is scarce, focused on specific sectors as software development or construction, without taking into account the differences between traditional and international projects. Thereby, risk management within IPTVE becomes a necessary approach for the performance in managing international projects. This article aims to improve the risk management process within IPTVE, by proposing a flexible theoretical model of the process.
