<p><strong>Purpose: </strong>Different leadership styles' effects on technology transfer effectiveness have not been implied in the literature. This study seeks to theoretically investigate the effect of five leadership styles; Classified according to personal authority of the leader; On technology transfer effectiveness.</p><p><strong>Design/methodology/approach:</strong> This study identifies five leadership styles which affect technology transfer effectiveness including transformational leadership, transactional leadership, visionary leadership, charismatic leadership and culture based leadership. This study associates these five leadership styles to technology transfer effectiveness. A conceptual model is tested using a survey data collected from a sample of manufacturing plants in the dairy manufacturing sector in Egypt.</p><p><strong>Findings: </strong>The results indicate that only four leadership styles significantly affect technology transfer effectiveness. Visionary leadership style has the strongest significant effect on technology transfer effectiveness, followed by culture based leadership style, then charismatic leadership style then transactional leadership. Transformational leadership does not significantly affect technology transfer effectiveness.</p><p><strong>Research Limitation/Implications: </strong>Transformational leadership has been observed to have no significant effect on technology transfer effectiveness. A set of refined transformational leadership measures should be developed in future studies.</p><p><strong>Practical Implications:</strong> This paper identifies the importance of leadership styles in achieving the success of technology transfer.</p><p><strong>Originality/value: </strong>This study provides a theoretical foundation for the effect of the leadership styles on technology transfer effectiveness in the dairy manufacturing plants. This study is one of the first efforts that empirically examine the effect of leadership styles on technology transfer effectiveness.</p><p> </p>

Kajian ini mengkaji hubungan gaya kepimpinan dan ciri kerja di Unit/Bahagian Perkhidmatan Maklumat sektor awam Malaysia. Seramai 31 orang pengurus Teknologi Maklumat sektor awam telah bekerjasama memberikan maklumat untuk kajian ini. Kepimpinan transaksi menunjukkan lebih banyak memberi pengiktirafan dan pujian kepada kakitangan profesional tetapi rendah dalam pemberian ganjaran. Kepimpinan transformasi menunjukkan gaya karismatik tinggi berbanding komponen lain dalam gaya kepimpinan transformasi. Ciri kerja menunjukkan tahap tinggi dalam kepentingan tugas dan keperluan bekerjasama dalam menjalankan tugas tetapi dengan tahap rendah dalam autonomi tugas. Kajian ini mendapati tiada hubungan bererti antara gaya kepimpinan dengan ciri kerja, tetapi wujud hubungan bererti antara kepimpinan transaksi dengan ciri kerja identiti tugas, maklum balas dari kerja, dan ciri kerja keseluruhan manakala kepimpinan transformasi pula hanya menunjukkan hubungan bererti dengan ciri kerja kepelbagaian kemahiran, dan tidak bererti kepada ciri kerja keseluruhan. Kata kunci: gaya kepimpinan; ciri kerja; teknologi maklumat; sektor awam This research investigates the relationship of leadership and job characteristics in the Information Technology centers of the Malaysian public sector departments. 31 Information Technology managers of the public sector departments participated in the study. Transactional leadership emphasizes recognition and recommendations to their professionals but was low in giving rewards. Transformational leadership showed a high charismatic leadership compared to the other components of transformational leadership. Job characteristics showed high job significant and dealing with others but were low in job autonomy. The study found that there is no significant relationship between leadership style and job characteristics, but there exists a significant relationship between transactional leadership and job identity, feedback from job, and with job characteristics itself; whilst transformational leadership showed a significant relatinship with task variety but not significant with job characteristics. Competition within the retail grocery industry has reached an all-time high. Organizations looking to differentiate themselves from rivals are focusing on improved customer satisfaction. This quantitative research study investigated how customer satisfaction was related to contemporary leadership styles and employee engagement. Transactional leadership theory, transformational leadership theory, and charismatic leadership theory were used as the theoretical framework of the study. Regression analyses were conducted to determine the effect of contemporary leadership styles on employee engagement in addition to determining the extent of the relationship existing with customer satisfaction. The results of the study indicated both transactional leadership and transformational leadership positively impacted or increased employee engagement; however, transformational leadership proved to be a significantly higher predictor of employee engagement.

AbstractLeadership style used in a higher education institution affects the competence-based performance of the lecturers and the administrative staff. In turn, their performance will affect the institution performance. So, leadership style influences the institution toward strengthening its strategy to sustain. This study examined the transactional and transformational leadership styles toward the lecturers and the administrative staff of STIE Perbanas Surabaya. Transformational leadership was measured using ideal, inspirational, and intellectual stimuli; while transactional leadership was measured using exceptional management and contingency reward. The indicators used to measure the lecturers' performance were on teaching, module, research, civil services, IT, English; while for administrative staff were integrity, service, professionalism, learning, adaptation, documenting, English. The survey involved 32 lecturers and 31 administrative staff. The data was collected using questionnaire and was statistically analyzed using multiple regressions. The result was that transformational leadership significantly influenced both the lecturers and the administrative staff, while transactional leadership did not affect both the lecturers and the administrative staff. The implication was that the top management can set strategies of putting motivation of all organization members in the frame of improving their competence thus this will help the institution grow and sustain.

Purpose: The leadership phenomenon is fundamental in providing employees with direction and emotional indulgence to derive maximum effort out of them. Therefore, it is vital that an organisation places uninhibited emphasis on the appropriate leadership style to enhance employee performance. Premised on the Collaborative Leadership Model, this paper sought to extricate the nexus between leadership style and employee performance at a selected bank in Botswana, focusing on the transactional, transformational, and participative leadership styles. Research methodology: The study adopted a positivist research paradigm coupled with a survey research design, while a quantitative methodology was used to collect data through a self-administered questionnaire. The study population comprised 433 employees from which a sample of 200 was randomly selected. Data was analysed through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), culminating in statistical techniques such as factor analysis, regression analysis and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Results: The results of the study revealed that there was a significant utilisation of the participative, transformational, and transactional leadership styles at the selected commercial bank. However, while the use of the participative and transactional leadership styles had a positive and significant influence on employee performance, the transformational leadership style’s effect was insignificant. Limitation: The study only used quantitative data from employees for analysis and did not include bank leaders’ opinions. Contribution: The study contributed to the expansion of the body of knowledge on leadership style and employee performance in the banking sector in Botswana and elsewhere and helped to unmask the shortcomings of some styles while exposing the power of others in reaping positive reinforcements leading to enhancement of employee performance. Research has suggested a relationship between leadership style and job satisfaction. This paper examines this relationship in the context of a developing country, viz., South Africa. The objective of the paper is to assess the relationship between the two variables as well as the influence of biographical variables on leadership style and job satisfaction. The survey was based on the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire. The results suggest a significant correlation between the three leadership styles, viz., transformational leadership, transactional leadership and laissez-faire leadership, and job satisfaction. There were no significant differences between the biographical variables and the three leadership styles.

The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of age and experience on the leadership styles of the managers, in the three selected banks of Kashmir division viz J&K Bank, SBI and HDFC. The study focuses on two leadership styles, namely transformational and transactional leadership styles. The study reveals that the transformational leadership style is the dominant leadership style among managers of all age and experience groups. Furthermore, the study reveals that the age and experience have no significant influence on leadership styles, although with the increase in age and experience transformational leadership style is exhibited more by the managers.

This paper aims to determine the effect of leadership styles on employee job satisfaction. The survey was conducted by administering questionnaires to 400 respondents from different organizations within Pakistan. Transformational leadership style was seen to have a positive effect on various facets of employee job satisfaction. Transactional leadership also turns out to be perceived as having a positive effect on different facets of employee job satisfaction, and so does empowering managerial leadership. It was found that leaders and managers combine the various leadership styles identified in the research paper in proportions that produce a positive result when administering their leadership duties. The proportions at which these leadership styles are combined depend upon the nature of the situation they encounter in the workplace.

This study has investigated the effects of leadership style on organizational performance in small scale enterprises. The major objective was to determine effect of leadership styles on performance in small scale enterprises. Transformational and transactional leadership styles were considered in this study. Transformational leadership behaviours and performance/outcome considered relevant in the study were charisma, inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation/individual consideration; and effectiveness, extra effort and satisfaction, respectively. Transactional leadership bahaviours and performance/outcome variables were constructive/contingent reward and corrective/management by exception; and effort, productivity and loyalty/commitment, respectively. The study followed a survey design, and employed evaluative quantitative analysis method. Analysis was based on primary data generated through a structured Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) administered on respondents. Responses to research statements were scaled and converted to quantitative data via code manual developed for the study to enable segmentation of the data responses into dependent and independent variables based on leadership behaviours and associated performance variables. OLS multiple regression models were specified, estimated and evaluated. The result showed that while transactional leadership style had significant positive effect on performance, transformational leadership style had positive but insignificant effect on performance. The study concluded that transactional leadership style was more appropriate in inducing performance in small scale enterprises than transformational leadership style and, therefore, recommended transactional leadership style for the small enterprises with inbuilt strategies for transition to transformational leadership style as the enterprises developed, grew and matured.

Abstract: The aim of the current study is to examine the impact of leadership styles such as transformational leadership, transactional leadership and participative leadership on the team performance of one of the biggest oil & gas group of companies in UAE. The goal also includes the moderating role of perceived organizational culture on the links of transformational leadership and team performance, transactional leadership team performance, participative leadership, and team performance. The employees who have at least one immediate boss and currently working in one of the biggest oil & gas group of companies are the respondent and data were gathered by using questionnaires and it was analyzed by using Smart-PLS. The results indicated that transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and participate leadership have positive nexus with team performance. The results also indicated that perceived organizational culture has positively moderates among the nexus of transformational leadership and team performance, transactional leadership team performance, participative leadership, and team performance. The regulators of this group of companies will be the foremost users who want to formulate policies regarding the leadership style that improves team performance.

In Switzerland, military service is a civic obligation for all adult male citizens, and thus, leadership style can be particularly challenging. The present study investigated the impact of superiors’ leadership styles on recruits’ achievement motivation, organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and perceived stress during their Basic Military Training (BMT). To this end, a total of 525 male recruits (mean age: 20.3 years) recruits were assessed both cross-sectionally and longitudinally. At the start of BMT (baseline), at week 7, and at week 11, participants completed a series of self-rating questionnaires covering demographic information, achievement motivation, organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), perceived stress, and their superiors’ leadership styles (transformational, transactional und laissez-faire). Longitudinally, scores for achievement motivation and OCB showed no significant difference between baseline and the 11th week. In a group comparison, the group experiencing higher transformational leadership (from week 7 to week 11) had the highest scores for achievement motivation and OCB, and the lowest scores for perceived stress, all at week 11. Exploratively, achievement motivation and OCB at baseline were associated with transformational leadership and transactional leadership at week 7 and week 11. Perceived stress at baseline correlated only with transformational leadership but not with transactional leadership, both at week 7 and week 11. Transformational leadership style fostered achievement motivation and OCB in Swiss military recruits and protected them from stress, both cross-sectionally and longitudinally.
