The paper deals with detailed study on microstructure and mechanical properties of aluminum 7068 reinforced with fly ash and silicon carbide by powder metallurgy, aluminum 7068, silicon carbide and fly ash were taken in powder form of required size and mixed together in varying proportion according to specification and compacted with pressure of 400MPa using hydraulic press to make samples and then samples were sintered at 600°c for 2 hours, the samples were tested for density, compressive strength, hardness and microstructure was analyzed using scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive x-ray study was carried out in order to confirm presence of silicon carbide and fly ash in aluminum matrix.

The main purpose of this work was to determine the effect of the powder composition on the microstructure and properties of iron-based sinters used as a matrix in diamond tools. The Fe-Cu-Ni sinters obtained from a mixture of ground powders were used for experiments. The influence of manufacturing process parameters on the microstructure and mechanical properties of sinters was investigated. Sintering was performed using hot-pressing technique in a graphite mould. The investigations of obtained sinters included: density, hardness, static tensile test, X-ray diffraction analysis, microstructure and fracture surface observations. The obtained results indicate that the produced sinters have good plasticity and relatively high hardness.

This research is focused on studying the density and mechanical properties of iron-chromium composites consolidated by innovative rapid microwave sintering technology against conventionally sintered counterparts using slow heating crucible furnace. Another aim of this study is to assess the viability of yttria (Y2O3) ceramic particulates as reinforcement to the iron-chromium composites. Fabrication of iron-chromium-yttria composites consolidated in microwave furnace and conventional crucible furnace was successfully accomplished. Improvement of density is evident in microwave sintered composites. The Y2O3 addition significantly increases the hardness of the composite (118 Hv for microwave specimens as opposed to 110Hv for conventional specimens). The study also successfully established the viability of microwave sintering technique for consolidating iron based powder metallurgy composites by up to 80% reduction of sintering time.
