During field studies in 2019 in the Beskid Śląski mountain range in southern Poland, one individual morphologically resembling <em>Polystichum setiferum </em>was found. Nuclear DNA content analysis confirmed the species identity. The new stand of <em>P. setiferum </em>corresponds to historical literature reports and herbarium specimens from the Czech Republic and Poland, and extends the northeastern limit of the distribution of this species. As the historical stands in both countries have not been confirmed, the newly discovered stand is at present strongly isolated, as the nearest extant locations of <em>P. setiferum </em>in Austria, southern Hungary, and western Romania are nearly 500 km away. Therefore, this unique stand deserves special attention and protection.

Abstract To investigate present and historical distribution of Equisetum ×moorei in Poland and its habitat requirements, field studies at sites of potential occurrence of this hybrid taxon as well as literature and herbarium search were performed. As a results of these investigations, E. ×moorei was found at five contemporary and at a few historical localities in the present territory of Poland. Since the Equisetum populations near Olkusz (S Poland) showed phenotype similar, to some extent, to triploid hybrid E. ×ascendens, we performed nuclear DNA content analysis of these populations. However, it turned out that the investigated individuals belonged to a diploid taxon that can be ascribed to E. ×moorei.

This chapter presents a framework for understanding the consequences of hard-right electoral breakthrough for the framing of homosexuality and LGBT rights. It begins by describing the extant framings of homosexuality under late communism in Poland and the Czech Republic. It then compares how the differing electoral success of hard-right political parties over the course of the EU accession process led to differing degrees of reframing homosexuality in both countries. In Poland, hard-right mobilization transformed the framing of LGBT rights by linking them with EU accession, which it portrayed as a threat to national identity. Because the Czech Republic did not experience hard-right backlash, the predominant framing of LGBT rights did not become as closely identified with the EU. The final part of the chapter moves from framing contests to frame resonance by presenting a quantitative content analysis of LGBT issues in both countries’ press from 1990 through 2012.

AbstractRespondents from Austria (N = 146) and the Czech Republic (N = 165) noted down their experiences with people from their neighbouring country and their attitudes to their own country and the neighbouring nation on feeling thermometers. The quantitative content analysis and qualitative critical discourse-inspired analysis of the open statements focused on the role of language in the construction of Czech-Austrian relations. Using qualitative analysis we enquired as to which themes were intertwined with the topic of language, and as to the ways in which the participants perceived themselves, the Others, behind the border, and the relations between the two sides. We looked not only into what participants said but also how they said it. Using statistical analysis we tested the link between language-related topics in the descriptions of intergroup contact and the evaluation of the neighbouring nation as a whole. Throughout the article we compare the findings obtained by the two kinds of analysis and comment on (dis)agreement as well as on the (dis)advantages of both approaches.

The goal of this article is especially to provide information about the current situation as it pertains to the application of CSR principles within the Czech football environment, both on the part of the executive bodies in Czech football (the Football Association of the Czech Republic – FACR and the League Football Association – LFA) and all the clubs participating in the top football competition in the Czech Republic. This article combines the conclusions from secondary data analysis, content analysis of websites (top managing bodies of Czech football and all participating clubs of the highest Czech football league) and the author’s own empirical investigation based on a series of semi-structured interviews.

Russian science knows the limited number of studies dedicated to the media of the Czech Republic. The article identifies the features of coverage of Russian-Czech relations by the Czech online media iDnes TV and Televize Seznam. This study aims to find out how the Russian-Czech relations are reported by iDnes TV and Televize Seznam. We apply such methods as comparative and quantitative analysis, data systematization, description, and content analysis. The paper examines some theoretical studies and 1,173 video news of iDnes TV and Televize Seznam. Based on the conducted research, we conclude that Czechs consider modern Russia as a threat to world security, and look at the era of communism in the Czech Republic negatively. At the same time, Russia remains an important part of the international agenda of the Czech media: the most popular themes in the coverage of the relations between Russia and the Czech Republic are politics and history. The findings illustrate that online media tend to use simpler forms and genres. To understand the trends of transformation of Russian-Czech relations in recent years, we need to continue our research.

This study examines Websites created by American multinational corporations (MNCs) in the Czech Republic. Utilizing a content analysis technique, we scrutinized (1) the type of brand Website functions, and (2) the similarity ratings between the home (US) sites and Czech sites. Implications are discussed from the Website standardization versus localization perspective.

Contributions to the distribution and ecology ofCarex hordeistichosVill. in the Czech Republic and SlovakiaCurrent and historical occurrence as well as habitat requirements ofCarex hordeistichosin the Czech Republic and Slovakia are presented. The study is based on the revision of herbarium specimens from 25 herbaria and a field survey carried out during 2004-2009. Altogether, 195 sites were documented in the Czech Republic, exclusively in the Moravia region. Recent occurrence was confirmed at only four localities (2% of sites), therefore the status of threat was confirmed - the species is critically endangered. In Slovakia, 184 localities of the species were recorded in total; 34 sites were found in period 1975-1999 and 35 sites were confirmed recently (19% of sites recorded), but only 6 in the Pannonia (3% of sites). The number of localities was stable over the last 35 years, therefore, we re-evaluated the IUCN status ofC. hordeistichosin Slovakia. The species is now assessed in the category vulnerable - VU. Results of the study are summarised in the maps of historical and actual species distribution.C. hordeistichosusually occurred in various wet grassland communities and it had no well-defined coenotic relationships. On the basis of our knowledge, we considerC. hordeistichosas a facultative halophyte.
