This work describes the case of a 20- year-old woman with neurofibromatosis type II (NF-2). The patient was diagnosed when she was just 15. The symptoms and the course of rare genetically autosomal dominant disease which is conditioned by the mutations of NF2 gene encoding merlin protein and located on chromosome 22q12.2 ,were elaborated. Scales such as: Katz (ADL), Lawton (IADL), Barthel , Tinetti, "get-up and go", tests were used in functional evaluation and patient's physical function which is very important in the diagnosis and the course of improving functionality. The purpose of this work is to present how rehabilitation and physical activity influence psychophysical health and help in everyday life activities of the patient who is deaf in both ears after tumor surgery in right and left Cerebellopontine angle area and after the surgery of two meningiomas of left sylvian fissure, Vitelliform macular d y s t r o p h y ( B e s t ' s d i s e a s e ) , t h e peripheral paresis of the right facial nerve and existing multilevel intradural tumors in spinal canal, intraspinal and e x t r a s p i n a l t u m o r s w i t h t h e morphologic features of meningiomas, neurilemmomas, ependymo mas, t u m o r s w i t h t h e f e a t u r e s o f meningiomas above left Cerebral hemisphere and along Cerebral falx. Moreover, the patient was diagnosed with tumors with the morphologic features of meningiomas in the right internal juguval vein hole, left accessory p a r o t i d g l a n d a n d a f e w s m a l l meningiomas below the left internal juguval vein hole and also in left parapharyngeal space after the insertion of cochlear implant on the right side and after hypothyroidism, it was given to the patient who reads lips, communicates mostly by text messages and slowly tries to incorporate sign language. Examples of rehabilitation exercises were presented, as well as how the patient uses physical activity despite bilateral deafness, numerous tumors and surgeries.

Abstract Objectives: The mini right axillary thoracotomy is an alternative surgical approach to repair certain congenital heart defects. Quality-of-life metrics and clinical outcomes in children undergoing either the right axillary approach or median sternotomy were compared. Methods: Patients undergoing either approach for the same defects between 2018 and 2020 were included. Demographic details, operative data, and outcomes were compared between both groups. An abbreviated quality of life questionnaire based on the Infant/Toddler/Child Health Questionnaires focused on the patient’s global health, physical activity, and pain/discomfort was administered to all parents/guardians within two post-operative years. Results: Eighty-seven infants and children underwent surgical repair (right axillary thoracotomy, n = 54; sternotomy, n = 33) during the study period. There were no mortalities in either group. The right axillary thoracotomy group experienced significantly decreased red blood cell transfusion, intubation, intensive care, and hospital durations, and earlier chest tube removal. Up to 1 month, parents’ perception of their child’s degree and frequency of post-operative pain was significantly less after the right axillary thoracotomy approach. No difference was found in the patient’s global health or physical activity limitations beyond a month between the two groups. Conclusions: With the mini right axillary approach, surrogates of faster clinical recovery and hospital discharge were noted, with a significantly less perceived degree and frequency of post-operative pain initially, but without the quality of life differences at last follow-up. While providing obvious cosmetic advantages, the minimally invasive right axillary thoracotomy approach for the surgical repair of certain congenital heart lesions is a safe alternative to median sternotomy.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant multisystem genodermatosis resulting from a mutation on chromosome 17q11.2, characterized by diverse clinical expression with involvement of the skin, nervous system, bones, eyes and other systems. Neurofibromas are tumors located along nerve bundles; when they become large, they are called plexiform neurofibromas. Complications of neurofibromas are rare, but include malignant transformation and potentially life-threatening hemorrhages. A comprehensive perioperative management, including arterial embolization of feeding vessels, is required in order to perform a safe surgical procedure and to reduce potential surgical complications. We report a case of a large plexiform neurofibroma on the right flank, treated in a two-stage approach: first, embolization with polyvinyl alcohol particles of the inferior epigastric, lumbar and superior gluteal arteries on the right and, second, 24 hours after embolization, exeresis of the lesion, which weighed 2.5 kg. Two years after surgery, the patient was asymptomatic, without tumor recurrence and with an important improvement in self-esteem and quality of life.

BACKGROUND There are over 1.3 million colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors in the United States, many of whom report lower health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) for years after diagnosis and treatment. Physical activity may improve survival outcomes and HRQoL for CRC survivors. Feasible interventions to support physical activity after CRC diagnosis are needed. OBJECTIVE This pilot study aimed to explore the impact of digital health intervention on physical activity and HRQoL. METHODS We conducted a two-arm, randomized controlled trial of 41 men and women who had completed treatment for CRC. Participants in the intervention arm were given a Fitbit Flex™ and received daily text messages for 12 weeks. HRQoL was assessed in both arms at enrollment and 12 weeks using the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form Survey (SF-36) and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Treatment – Colorectal (FACT-C). Survey score changes from enrollment to 12 weeks were compared between the two arms using independent t-tests and scores at enrollment and 12 weeks were compared using paired t-tests. RESULTS We observed an increase in the FACT-C functional well-being sub-scale in individuals in the intervention arm pre- to post- intervention (median difference: 2; interquartile range (IQR): 1,4; P = .02). In contrast, no change in functional well-being sub-scale was found in the control arm (median difference: 0; IQR: -1,1; P = .71). No other measures of HRQoL appeared to differ within arm, across time points, or between arms. CONCLUSIONS A 12-week physical activity intervention using a Fitbit Flex™ and daily text messages may improve functional well-being among CRC survivors. Larger randomized studies are needed to definitively determine if a digital physical activity intervention improves functional well-being among CRC survivors and if this improvement can be sustained over time. There was no change in functional well-being in the control arm (mean ∆ -0.35 ± 4.12; p: 0.71). The between-arm comparison of change from baseline to 12 weeks was not statistically significantly ( p: 0.08). There was a statistically significant increase in the FACT-C emotional well-being sub-scale in the control arm (mean ∆ 1.20 ± 2.48; p: 0.04) and in the SF-36 role physical sub-scale in the control arm (mean ∆ 22.5 ± 38.8; p: 0.02). No other measures of HRQoL were statistically significantly different within groups, across time points, or between groups. Conclusions: A 12-week physical activity intervention using a Fitbit Flex™ and daily text messages may improve functional well-being among CRC survivors. It was studied influence of the therapeutic education the patients with osteoporosis on awareness about disease, dynamic physical activity and quality of life. 42 women with osteoporosis was learned on structuring program. It was noted increase of the percent of the right answers on the questions from 50,7±2,1% to 77,2±20,2% just after education and to 71,5±15,8% after 6 months. It was marked increase of the physical activity after education also. During investigation of quality of life we found improvement on the scale of the pain, mobility, work to be done at home, social activity and general status. We didn'tfined established modification at the scale of psychological function.

Older Latinxs engage in lower levels of leisure-time physical activity (PA) compared with non-Latinx Whites. Latin dance is a culturally relevant type of leisure-time PA that may engage older Latinx populations, particularly when coupled with mobile health technologies (mHealth). This single group pre–post feasibility study described the PA and health outcomes of middle-aged and older Latinxs participating in BAILA TECH—an intervention that combines the BAILAMOS Latin dance program with mHealth (Fitbit Charge 2, Fitbit app, and motivational text messages). Participants ( n = 20, Mage = 67 ± 7.1, female n = 15, 75%) were enrolled in the 16-week BAILA TECH intervention held twice a week. Participants received a Fitbit Charge 2 to assess PA at baseline, during the intervention, and postintervention. An mHealth platform (iCardia) collected Fitbit data and staff delivered weekly motivational and informational text messages. Participants completed questionnaires about PA, sedentary behavior, cardiorespiratory fitness, social support, quality of life, and cognitive function at baseline and postintervention. Paired t tests evaluated change in pre–post measures. There was a significant increase in device-assessed moderate-to-vigorous PA ( d = 0.69), self-reported light-leisure ( d = 1.91) and moderate-to-vigorous PA ( d = 1.05), moderate-to-vigorous leisure PA ( d = 1.55), predicted cardiorespiratory fitness ( d = 1.10), and PA social support ( d = 0.81 [family]; d = 0.95 [friends]) from baseline to postintervention. Although nonsignificant, there was a small effect on physical health–related quality of life ( d = 0.32) and executive function ( d = 0.29). These data describe an increase in PA levels and health-related outcomes of middle-aged and older Latinxs from participation in an mHealth-infused Latin dance intervention. An adequately powered trial is necessary to establish efficacy.

BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing in prevalence worldwide. Physical activity (PA) is an important aspect of self-care and first-line management for T2DM. Mobile text messages (SMS) can be used to support self-management in people with T2DM, but the effectiveness of mobile text messages-based interventions in increasing physical activity is still unclear. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of mobile phone messaging on PA in people with T2DM by summarizing and pooling the findings of previous literature. METHODS A systematic review was conducted to accomplish this objective. Search sources included 5 bibliographic databases (MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Web of Science, EMBASE), the search engine “Google Scholar”, and backward and forward reference list checking of the included studies and relevant reviews. Two reviewers independently carried out the study selection, data extraction, risk of bias assessment, and quality of evidence evaluation. Results of included studies were synthesized narratively and statistically, as appropriate. RESULTS We included 6 of 541 retrieved studies. Four of the studies showed a statistically significant effect of text messages on physical activity. Although a meta-analysis of results of two studies showed a statistically significant effect (P=.05) of text messages on physical activity, the effect was not clinically important. A meta-analysis of findings of 2 studies showed a non-significant effect (P=.14) of text messages on glycaemic control. Two studies found a non-significant effect of text messages on anthropometric measures (weight and BMI). CONCLUSIONS Text messaging interventions show promise for increasing physical activity. However, it is not possible to conclude from this review whether text messages have a significant effect on physical activity, glycaemic control, or anthropometric measures among patients with T2DM. This is due to the limited number of studies, the high overall risk of bias in most of the included studies and the low quality of meta-analysed evidence. There is a need for more high-quality primary studies.
