Psychological determinants of health-saving behaviour and its disorders among young people with the status of a disabled-child

The eighteenth century saw the curious tradition of translating Milton’s Paradise Lost into normative English prose and verse. The status of these translations as literary curiosities belies their serious ambition: to secure a universal readership of this English classic, an ambition also articulated in contemporary works of criticism and commentaries. Rather than treating this cluster of works as adaptations, this chapter conceives of them as intralingual translations, thus positioning them in the terms with which their authors describe them and within the earlier tradition of translation-as-commentary. Milton’s English translators aim at making his epic accessible to women, ‘foreigners’, ‘young people’, and ‘those of a capacity and knowledge below the first class of learning’, even if that accessibility requires some rewriting. Borrowing methods from the teaching of Latin, these authors established a practice that persists to this day in student-friendly translations of English poetry.

The Kyzylorda period in the development of the education system of Kazakhstan occupies a special place. The center's move to the city of Kyzylorda gave a new impetus to the political and public life of the region. Young people seeking education started coming to the city of Kyzylorda from other regions. After assigning the status of the capital in the city of Kyzylorda began to open up new educational institutions. The Kazakh Institute of education and medical schools moved from Orenburg. The city has opened educational schools of the first and second categories. Special boarding schools were opened for people living in remote areas. The work of boarding schools was constantly monitored by special commissions. In 1925, the famous writer Gabiden Mustafin worked and studied in the city of Kyzylorda. Also, S. Mukanov, A. Kenzhin and other representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia worked in the education system.

The purpose of the article is an adaptation of the affective labor concept as a method for analyzing vandalism among young people. The article examines youth vandalism as a form of affective labor and identifies two types of effects. The first type deals with the experiences of the vandals themselves which cause the new subjectivity and collectivity; the second type refers to the effects experienced by the users of vandal-altered spaces: they begin to feel differently because the damage can seriously change the status, value, user qualities of the urban environment and the emotions it induces on inhabitants. The paper analyzes youth vandalism as a strategy which not only transforms the urban space visually (physically) but also consciously constructs the affects transforming the subjectivity of young people, social positions and community forms of both the vandals themselves and the users of the city. This approach, reflecting the strategic nature of the young people’s vandal activity, shows that vandal practice should be understood as the practice of space occupation, its appropriation, its de- and reconstruction and should be based on social topology and general ideas of actor-network theory. The socio-philosophical conclusions in the paper are illustrated by the results of interviews involving 17 participants from 7 youth communities conducted in summer and autumn 2017 in Yekaterinburg. The photographs of the damaged urban spaces in various city districts were also taken; the data were mapped, and the photo database was marked according to geographical location and types of damaged buildings. This helped to draw certain conclusions about the youth vandalism phenomenon. The article outlines the prospects for the use of the proposed methodology in the analysis of vandal damage and in urban vandalism prevention activities. Children who interact with football’s recruitment and transfer processes encounter a complex web of regulations and practices. Debates over how to ensure that the interests and well-being of young football players are adequately protected, and that risks to their rights and welfare are identified and addressed, have become a topic of academic, political and media concern. This commentary article provides an overview of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) regulations concerning the mobility and representation of minors in player recruitment processes, in particular the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players and the Regulations on Working with Intermediaries. We examine these regulations through the lens of the United Nations Children’s Rights Conventions (UNCRC). In so doing, the article demonstrates how football’s regulatory frameworks and commercial practices inadvertently yield consequences that operate against the best interests of children involved in the sport. To counteract this, it is proposed that all planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of regulations involving the recruitment and transfer of young people should be explicitly informed by globally accepted standards of children’s rights, such as the UNCRC. More specifically, it is argued that FIFA should adopt an approach that places the child at the centre of regulatory frameworks and characterises the child as a ‘rights holder’.

This concluding chapter explains that in order to develop interrelationships and interdependencies across the various domains within a social determinants of health rainbow model, there needs to be a good understanding and respect for each of these contributions to the health and wellbeing of people and their communities. In the ten-year period of austerity preceding the COVID-19 crisis, many local authorities have radically reduced their social and health services for children and families and young people, concentrating solely on those with the most acute need, those whom they have a legal obligation to support. Indeed, local government has 'retreated from its historical position as the front-line of defence against social evils'. There remain major concerns about local authorities' ability to support their communities in the post-COVID-19 period. Ultimately, although there are large numbers of reports and reviews aimed at local commissioning policies and practices, there is very little evidence to support the interrelated and interdependent approaches utilising a social determinants of health model that specifically addresses 'wicked issues'.

This chapter aims to illuminate the current state of the field of diabetes-related serious games. First, it describes the problems and difficulties for young people with type 1 diabetes associated with their adherence to treatment regimens. The chapter also discusses various tendencies in the field of diabetes-related games that follow the findings of the systematic reviews performed between 2012 and 2014. Based on the reviews, significant gameplay features of games for health are identified. Further, it presents an example of a smartphone-based serious game developed for children with type 1 diabetes. Finally, this chapter discusses the distribution channel and platforms for serious games and improvements for the status of the field of games for health.

A significant number of calls made to Kids Help Line are seen by the organisation as not requiring counselling support, but are rather young people testing or ‘checking out’ the service. Although the status of many of these ‘testing calls’ is self-evident, determining the authenticity of others presents the helpline counsellors with a dilemma: confronting the caller if they have doubts about the caller’s reason for calling while, at the same time, avoiding a premature challenge when the call is genuine. We examine the various interactional strategies that the counsellors artfully deploy in their determination of the status of a call. Outright challenges are rare, and counsellors typically will employ devices that announce their suspicions indirectly and which, at the same time, seamlessly accomplish the mundane business of responding to a call in ways which treat the callers with respect.
