A PARADOXAL CHALLENGE: the newly teachers look at the professional insertion in teaching practice. The text is on the agenda of the professional insertion in the teaching career, having as leading theme the discussions about the following question: how do the newly graduated teachers see the professional insertion process in the teaching practice? For the discussion, we take a look at the informations produced by a Stricto sensu research program conducted with teachers recent graduated, who are teaching in public schools of Elementary School II and High School.Taking a clipping of this study, we intend, in this text, to analyze the perceptions of these teachers about the teaching practice in the course of professional insertion in the teaching profession. The literature dialogues about this discussion spectrum and the interpretative analysis of the research informations showed that the teachers see the first years in teaching by marked by challenges and contradictions: at the same time that they are graduated / formed by the University, they have to learn about the teaching exercising by doing it, at the school, early in their career; but they are faced with institutional discourses and exercises that counterposed their thought, revealing the distancing between their early graduation knowledges and the real school demands, as well as the teaching complexity in contemporary. With this text, therefore, we intend to potentialize and expand the debate on this thematic in the University and in the institutions of Basic Education.

Abstract—The present study highlights the main challenges faced by EFL student teachers (STs) of the Department of English - College of Basic Education - University of Sulaimani during their teaching practice. To investigate the challenges, a closed-ended questionnaire is designed which consists of 20 items focusing on a variety of relevant issues of practicum experience. The questionnaire is given to 50 EFL STs and the collected data is statistically analyzed. The study hypothesizes that EFL STs might have serious challenges in their teaching at basic schools, which could be related to the lack of motivation of basic school students, shortage of practicum period, supervisors’ evaluation, and lack of teaching technology. These challenges are proved true after the analysis of the data. Based on the conclusions of this current study, it is recommended that Kurdish EFL STs should be familiarized with different aspects of teaching profession. To this end, the university stakeholders should design a specialized program for ST practicum and create a strong link with basic school programs. The conclusions and recommendations could be taken into consideration by the STs, university teaching staff, and basic school principals to overcome the challenges and improve the practicum process. Thus, the study could have potentially significant implications for the senior administrators of the Department of English, College of Basic Education deanery, and the University of Sulaimani presidency for addressing the main challenges of practicum faced by EFL STs.

In the article we seek to address questions regarding the interest of graduates of a degree course in Natural Sciences and Mathematics in relation to the teaching career in basic education. The course enables its graduates to work in the subjects Science and Mathematics in the final years of elementary school and Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in high school. Our intention is to identify and reflect on the perceptions of these graduates about teaching, highlighting with this inherent aspects to the exercise of this profession in basic education. From the application of questionnaires to graduates of this course, we produced data regarding their performance in basic education, which enabled us to reflect on the national scenario in relation to the exercise of this profession. We could observe that the majority of the students participating in the research are not working in basic education and that the current scenario of devaluation of the teaching career exerts a significant influence in the decision making process of choosing or not the teacher profession for professional performance after graduation.

Background: The curricular structure of Brazilian basic education has changed in recent years. With the promulgation of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) for elementary and high school education, there is a need to change the curricula of state and municipal networks, which takes place precisely with the actual implementation in schools. Objective: To understand the view of mathematics teachers on capacity and knowledge they must have for the effective application of the BNCC in the classroom considering all the requirements, especially the skills and competencies that contemplate the curricular base. Design: Applied work, with quantitative bias, as the work presents statistical analyses. Setting and participants: Twenty-four high school mathematics teachers of the state network of the municipality of Itumbiara-GO. Data collection and analysis: Questionnaire applied to mathematics teachers, with percentage and inferential analyses such as Cronbach’s Alpha and correlation test. Results: The teachers believe that they know well the specific competencies and skills required in mathematics and its technologies, but they do not know well other areas of the BNCC and feel very insecure about applying these concepts in class. Conclusions: We noticed that the teachers play a fundamental role in implementing the BNCC in schools successfully, requiring pedagogical support such as formative courses and teaching materials to help correct the knowledge gaps they have for that task.

Teniasis and cysticercosis are parasitic diseases with serious repercussions on public health, caused by parasites Taenia solium and T. saginata. The objective was to verify the explanation in textbooks about teniasis and cysticercosis and their approaches by the professors of Sciences and Biology to their students. Data were analyzed on the occurrence of teniasis and cysticercosis in the Health Secretaries of municipalities of Vale do Jiquiriçá, Bahia. An interview was also conducted with teachers from Elementary School II and High School of the public schools of the municipalities of Bahia: Jiquiriçá, Mutuípe and Ubaíra. In addition, bibliographic research was carried out in textbooks used in schools. It was verified that there is no record of the prevalence of teniasis and cysticercosis in the municipalities investigated. Regarding the approach of these infections in Basic Education, it was noticed that the teachers need the complementation of the content, because in the textbooks the approaches are succinct, although they can cover the main characteristics of these diseases. Interaction among health professionals and education professionals is suggested for prevention and combat with better results.

This article presents an analysis of the teaching career beginning in Basic Education using the beginning teacher as a reference. The study is based on the theoretical discussions of Gonçalves (2000), Huberman (2000), Guarnieri (2005), Tardif (2008), Darling-Hammond (2014), among others. For methodological development, we used qualitative research (BRASILEIRO, 2013), type case study (MEKSENAS, 2011) with input in ethnomethodology (COULON, 1995). The research was carried out in a public school and had as participants a teacher whose teaching time is less than two years, a principal and a pedagogical coordinator. The data collection techniques were observation, questionnaire, interview and field diary. Data analysis was performed based on Bardin (1977), and interpretation in accordance with Hermeneutics-Dialectics also discussed through Minayo's reflections (1998). The results indicate elements that facilitate the beginning of the teaching profession, such as commitment, respect, profile, self-confidence, among other principles. They also point out difficult elements, such as shyness and practical fragility. They also show the different challenges encountered by the teacher, especially the process of overcoming the dichotomy between training (theory) and professional practice. In general, the research findings show that the entry of the beginner teacher into the school results from a university education based on teaching and research. And, that the beginning of the teaching career explains a context of learning knowledge, characterized by the availability and proactivity inherent in pedagogical work, by the experiences of social relations between students and school professionals that converge to the construction of the teaching professional identity. Therefore, the study expands the reflection on the teaching profession from the perspective of the beginning teacher collaborating to expand this field of knowledge.
