This paper completes the knowledge of an occurrence of Bythinella austriaca (Frauenfeld, 1857) (Gastropoda: Hydrobiidae) in surroundings of Prague – capital of the Czech Republic. However, this species is not rare in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, sites on north-western otskirts of Prague are isolated far from the main distribution area. Altogether, 63 sites potentially suitable for B. austriaca were investigated in this area, and occurrence of this species was confirmed in 11 of them. B. austriaca was found in springs, rivulets and small brooks, more numerous populations were found in springs. Historical occurrence data in this area were compared with results of research done in 2003, 2006 and 2010. Actual situation of this species in Prague surroundings is problematic and survival of some populations is not guaranteed.

AbstractThe hamate dandelion section (Taraxacum sect. Hamata H. Øllg.) represents a morphologically tight group of taxa, distributed in the oceanic and sub-oceanic regions of Europe. In Central Europe, it is mostly confined to freshly moist meadows, as well as places in the shade within urban areas. The known distribution area in Europe until now extended towards the E part of the Czech Republic and S Poland. During the past six years, we have discovered an additional eleven localities of hamate dandelions in NW and N Slovakia, which represents a corrected south-eastern limit for the distribution area of this section. In this paper, we discuss seven recognized taxa (T. boekmanii, T. fusciflorum, T. hamatiforme, Taraxacum hamatum, T. lamprophyllum, T. pseudohamatum, and T. quadrans). We provide a determinative key to the Slovakian hamate dandelions, brief species descriptions, comments on their distribution, a distribution map of the section in Slovakia, as well as images of all of the newly found species.

The current uncertain and rapidly changing time requires a thorough analysis of the actual situation and subsequent appropriate decision-making in many areas. This applies to the individual national economies and their particular sectors, as well. Therefore, the topic of development forecasting is becoming even more important nowadays. The presented paper deals with forecasting associated to the further development of the selected national economy through modeling via simulation technique. The country of selection is the Czech Republic. The gross domestic product (GDP) is chosen as the indicator that the most reliably reflects the national economy condition. Therefore, a prediction of the potential GDP development is realized. The obtained findings are applied to the industry segment.

The area of the North-Western Bohemia (NWB, covered by three from the 1st January 2000 in the Czech Republic 14 existing new counties) will be divided from 1st January 2003 - in compliance with ongoing public administration reforms - to 33 new and smaller "districts" (instead of more than 40 years existing 14 districts). The paper deals with internal territorial division of public administration units (counties and districts) of the NWB area in the past (see enclosed tables). In order to assess and classify both necessity and significance of recently proposed centers and their future areas the author applies to assess their "population size" (which is one of key aspects used in the reform proposals). According to the new districts "population size" - the average size is only 47 thsd inh. The author identifies group of the "smaller and disputable districts", in which he looks one of very dispute and risky results of the reform. This is emphasized by comparison with the simultaneous development and achieved results of the territorial division in the neighbouring countries Saxony/Germany and Lower Silesia/Poland. After completion of this paper the Senat of the Czech Republic approved this proposal, but moreover the number of all the new "districts" for the whole CR territory grow up from 194 up to 205 units (instead of 76 existing districts).

This present study is focused on the modeling of the most important potato pest i.e Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata, Say 1824) development in relation to the climate conditions over the area of the Czech Republic. The aim was to develop a model allowing the assessment of the CPB possible spread under the climate change. For the estimation of the CPB occurrence in expected climate conditions we used a dynamic model CLIMEX that enables to determine the suitability of a given location climate for the pests survival and infestation capability based on known pests requirements to the climate conditions. Following the validation and calibration of the model outputs, the meteorological data were altered according to three Global Circulation Models (ECHAM4, HadCM3, NCARPCM) that were driven by two SRES emission scenarios (A2, B1) with two assumed levels of climate system sensitivity for period 2025 and 2050. Model output, for current and expected climate conditions, were visualized by GIS using a digital landscape model. Under all climate change scenarios we noted a widening of CPB distribution area and change in the infestation pressure of the pest.

This study is focused on distribution of the spider Brigittea civica (Lucas, 1850). It is probably a non‑native species in the Czech Republic, which occurs synanthropically in central European conditions. It is well adapted to coexistence with humans, and since there is no natural enemy, it may freely redistribute. The aim of this study was to supplement the knowledge of distribution of this species in South Moravia. The present occurrence data were recorded from a total of 92 towns and villages via observing typical cobwebs. In 86 cases, the incidence was observed, in only six cases, there was not found even a single cobweb of the spider. Based on our records, we can suggest that B. civica is much more common than was previously mapped and the presence of this species in the Czech Republic was underestimated.

Abstract The golden jackal is a mesocarnivore with a rapidly expanding European range, where current resident breeding populations occupy much of the Balkans, Pannonian Basin and the Black and Caspian seas coasts. Despite numerous post-2000 records, breeding of this species in the newly colonized regions of Central and Northwestern Europe remained unconfirmed. Photography- and direct observation-based evidence obtained in 2017 from Central Bohemia, Czech Republic, indicates a north-western shift in the breeding range over 300 km from the closest known breeding jackal population in Pannonian Basin.

This study investigates the effect of COVID-19 lockdowns and non-lockdown phases on managers and employees in the Czech Republic in the year 2020. The Czech Republic came through the first COVID-19 wave in spring 2020 with low case numbers, but became one of the countries with the highest case incidences in the second autumn wave in Europe. The study focused on examining the differences of perceptions on digital readiness of the company, working style, and mental health variables of working personnel in lockdown and non-lockdown phases. Data was obtained by an online survey conducted monthly from March-2020 to December-2020 with the same questions each month. Collected data consisted of respondents’ basic information on the actual situation, on perceptions on company and technology and on perceptions of the own mental state in the given month, retrieved from a pool of employees and managers from the Czech Republic machine and equipment manufacturers’ industry. Statistical analysis was conducted with the Kruskal-Wallis test for ordinal variables to check for significant differences in perceptions during 2020. Results show that managers in general and telecommuting-experienced workers in particular are better able to adapt to forced home office, while telecommuting-inexperienced employees struggle to adapt positively even with increasing company support and with an increasing digital team communication.
