Macaronesia, with the exception of the Azores, is one of the few Palearctic provinces where basic taxonomic information on the freshwater copepods is still lacking. We redescribed Eucyclops azorensis, a cyclopid crustacean so far known only in the Azores, and report the occurrence of this species in Algeria and Madeira Island. Eucyclops azorensis was formerly considered to be a subspecies of E. agiloides (East Africa); therefore, the latter species is redescribed here as well based on type and non-type material. Morphological comparisons between E. azorensis, E. agiloides and other taxa (E. serrulatus and E. roseus), assumed to be closely related to our target species, support a closer relationship between E. azorensis and E. serrulatus (Palearctic) than between E. azorensis and E. agiloides (Afrotropical). The slight differences between E. azorensis and E. serrulatus in the surface ornamentation of the antennal coxobasis and intercoxal sclerites of legs 1 and 4 suggest a relatively young separation of these lineages. Eucyclops agiloides is morphologically close to E. roseus (temperate and subtropical Asia, southeastern Europe, East Africa). The numerous and clear-cut differences indicate a species rather than subspecies-level differentiation between E. agiloides and E. roseus, unlike what was formerly proposed in the taxonomic literature.

Fifteen holotypes of Asian Hesperiidae taxa described by Shu-iti Murayama were examined, and their taxonomic status is discussed. We confirm that five are valid names while the rest are synonyms as indicated partially by previous authors. Valid species-level names are Aeromachus matudai (Murayama), Aeromachus bandaishanus Murayama & Shimonoya, Coladenia pinsbukana (Shimonoya & Murayama), and Sebastonyma suthepiana Murayama & Kimura. Valid subspecies-level name is Ochlodes yuchingkina Murayama & Shimonoya. In order to settle the taxonomic status of Pedesta masuriensis cuneomaculata Murayama, masuriensis and tali were studied morphologically and molecularly. As a result, we consider that masuriensis and tali are two different species and treat cuneomaculata as a junior subjective synonym of tali.

The genus Rubus Linnaeus (1753: 492) with nearly 700 species in Europe (Kurtto et al. 2010) constitutes an extraordinarily taxonomically critical group within the Rosaceae (Rosoideae). The richness of morphotypes combined with a poor understanding of the breeding system of apomictic brambles has resulted in the description of thousands of entities. Lack of taxonomic standards and an overwhelming number of scientific names has caused nomenclatorial chaos, which mainly has been resolved by the modern species concept developed in Europe in the late 1900s (“Weberian reform”, Weber 1999; Haveman & de Ronde 2012). However, the review of older names is an extended process and re-evaluation of names has often failed due to lack of type material.

The Carcinological Collection of División Zoología Invertebrados, Museo de La Plata (FCNyM-UNLP) includes of 110 type lots of 42 species. A list of types of the crustacean orders Anostraca (8 species), Diplostraca (5 species), Arguloida (3 species), Cyclopoida (1 species), Poecilostomatoida (8 species), Siphonostomatoida (2 species), Podocopida (4 species), Amphipoda (2 species), Isopoda (2 species), Mysida (2 species) and Decapoda (5 species) is presented. Species names are listed in systematical order, including type locality, collection number, current taxonomic status and original bibliographic reference. For parasite and commensal species, type host and site of infection are also provided.

Packard (1873) described Menopon picicola as a new species, based on ten lice taken from two species of woodpeckers of the genus Picoides—P. arcticus (Swainson, 1832) and P. dorsalis Baird, 1858—collected in Wyoming, U.S.A. in August 1872. Considering that (1) Packard (1873) neither designated a holotype nor a single type host, (2) his type material is most likely lost, and (3) no additional lice from either of those two species of Picoides have been reported in the literature, the taxonomic status of Menopon picicola has not been confirmed.

Following the examination of the type material, the generic name Allohoraeomorphus Franz, 1986 is placed as a juniorobjective synonym of Horaeomorphus Schaufuss, 1889. The only species included in Allohoraeomorphus, Horaeomor-phus calcarifer (Franz, 1986), comb. n., is redescribed and its diagnostic characters, including the aedeagus and modified male metatrochanters are illustrated.

Using morphological and distributional evidence, the females of Photomorphus (Photomorphina) archboldi Manley & Deyrup, P. (Photomorphina) auriventris Schuster, and P. (Photomorphina) spinci (Bradley) are newly described. Discovery of these females facilitated a necessary study on the structural differences between the two Photomorphus subgenera, Photomorphus Viereck and Photomorphina Schuster, and revealed diagnostic setal patterns and sculpturing of the mesosoma and metasoma for the two subgenera. Furthermore, examination of type material revealed past misidentifications that led to incorrect taxonomic status for these insects, requiring significant changes to taxonomy. Photomorphus myrmicoides (Cockerell) is transferred from the subgenus Photomorphina to subgenus Photomorphus. Photomorphus subtenuis (Viereck), revised status, and Photomorphus impar (Melander), revised status, are resurrected from incorrect synonymy under P. myrmicoides. Photomorphus impar is considered the senior synonym of Mutilla parvula Blake, P. johnsoni Viereck, and P. johnsoni var. argentipilis Schuster, new synonyms.

Multivariate morphometric approach (using PCA mix and CDA) and Inter-Simple Sequence Repeat Markers (ISSR) were used to characterize the patterns of morphological and genetic relationships of Capparis spinosa group in Iran. The morphological data analyses revealed that this complex could be divided into three main groups. C. spinosa subsp. cartilaginea and C. spinosa subsp. spinosa var. mucronifolia were reliably delineated by morphological data, but C. spinosa subsp. spinosa var. parviflora, C. spinosa subsp. spinosa var. herbacea, C. spinosa subsp. spinosa var. canescens, C. spinosa subsp. spinosa var. aegyptia and their intermediate phenotypes were overlapped. The results of ISSR data were different from morphological analyses and var. parviflora exhibited a close genetic affinity to var. mucronifolia rather than the other varieties of sub. spinosa. The results of this study revealed that subsp. cartilaginea should be recognized at species level. In case of var. parviflora, we propose subspecies level for this variety. Further investigation is needed to reveal the taxonomic status of var. mucronifolia.

A taxonomic reassessment of coralline algae (Corallinales, Rhodophyta) associated with reef environments in the Abrolhos Bank, northeastern Brazil, was developed based on extensive historical samples dating from 1999–2009 and a critical evaluation of type material. Our goal was to update the taxonomic status of the main nongeniculate coral reef-forming species. Our results show that four species are the main contributors to the living cover of coral reefs in the Abrolhos Bank: Lithophyllum stictaeforme, Neogoniolithon atlanticum sp. nov., Porolithon pachydermum and Spongites fructiculosus. Comparison of the type material to modern collections has shown that Lithophyllum congestum is a heterotypic synonym of L. stictaeforme. However, L. stictaeforme and P. pachydermum were the most abundant species at the studied sites, a finding consistent with other coral reefs in the region. This is the first record of S. fructiculosus in the southwestern Atlantic. This review provides the baseline data needed for the monitoring and management of the southernmost limits of coral reefs in the western Atlantic Ocean.

The specific status of Pella hampei (Kraatz, 1862) is debated. Remarks are presented about the relationships of Alevonota Thomson, 1858, as well as Mycetota Ádám, 1987, Oxypodera Bernhauer, 1915 and Rhopaletes Cameron, 1939. The publication date of several Atheta species described by G. Benick is discussed. Aloconota mihoki, Amischa forcipata, A. filum and Atheta boehmei are reported from Hungary, Croatia and Romania, respectively, for the first time. A new species, Rhopaletes slavoniae sp. n. is described from Croatia.

Roesma D. I, Tjong D. H, Karlina W, Aidil D. R. 2019. Taxonomy confirmation of Puntius cf. binotatus from Gunung Tujuh Lake based on Cytochrome Oxidase-I (COI) gene. Biodiversitas 20: 54-60. The population of Puntius cf. binotatus Gunung Tujuh Lake in considered as an isolated population which found in the 20-30 meters depth under the water Gunung Tujuh Lake, Sumatra Island. The species often exhibit different phenotypic characters and may genetic characters may also different due to their response to habitat/ecological conditions. Previous study on P. binotatus from several locations in West Sumatra showed the complexity of the genetic and morphological characters. A molecular study using COI gene of P. cf. binotatus from Gunung Tujuh Lake in Sumatera has been conducted to determine the taxonomic status of the fish. The distinct morphological characters of Puntius cf. binotatus is one black spot in the middle of the caudal and the absent of black spot on the base of the anterior dorsal ray. The analysis on COI gene showed that the range of sequence divergences between P. cf. binotatus Gunung Tujuh Lake and other Sumatra P. cf. binotatus is 3.1-7.6% and 4.1% to Barbodes banksi. This value represents the differences at the subspecies level of Barbodes banksi. Therefore Barbodes banksi gunungtujuh is proposed as an appropriate name to P. cf. binotatus Gunung Tujuh Lake.
