The quantification of material appearance is important in product design. In particular, the sparkle impression of metallic paint used mainly for automobiles varies with the observation angle. Although several evaluation methods and multi-angle measurement devices have been proposed for the impression, it is necessary to add more light sources or cameras to the devices to increase the number of evaluation angles. The present study constructed a device that evaluates the multi-angle sparkle impression in one shot and developed a method for quantifying the impression. The device comprises a line spectral camera, light source, and motorized rotation stage. The quantification method is based on spatial frequency characteristics. It was confirmed that the evaluation value obtained from the image recorded by the constructed device correlates closely with a subjective score. Furthermore, the evaluation value is significantly correlated with that obtained using a commercially available evaluation device.

AbstractHydrometers are widely used in industry for liquid density measurement. It is important to achieve rapid and high accuracy calibration for hydrometers. Based on the Archimedes principle, a fully automatic hydrometer calibration system in NIM was designed using Cuckow’s method. The liquid density of n-tridecane (C13H28)is calibrated with 441 g high-purity fused silica ring as the solid density standard. The buoyancy of hydrometer is measured by static weighing system with resolution 0.01 mg. The alignment between liquid surface and hydrometer scale was achieved by the lifting platform with the positioning accuracy of 10 μm. According to the weighing value of hydrometer in air and liquid, the density correction value at different scales is calculated. Hydrometer covering a full range (650–1500) kg/m3can be calibrated without changing the liquid. Taking the calibration data of PTB as reference, the experimental data show that the measurement uncertainty of this system is better than 0.3 division (k = 2).

ABSTRACT:It introduces a kind of an Automatic Calibration System, especially for long-term drift of oil tank gauging system. long-term drift serious influence on measuring the accuracy and reliability of the system. With theory of Hydrostatic Tank Gauging[1](HTG),as soon as the long-term drift occurring, the detection drift of oil pressure valueΔp will drift, and soon other the parameters of tank Gauging will be occurred. Because the value of Δp is difficult to directly determine, This paper puts forward a kind of automatic calibration method to obtain Δp according to the fuel level drift Δh) indirectly,By means of the HTG double level switches and fuzzy control theory. At last, by MATLAB simulation verify the correctness of the system design.
