AbstractAn invasive pest,Tuta absoluta(Meyrick) has been observed infesting tomatoSolanum lycopersicumL. (Solanales: Solanaceae) in Central Uganda. The affected farmer made the report, and upon visiting the farm, we observed tiny larvae, green to cream in colour with a black head feeding on tomato leaves, fruit, as well as tender stems. Also, we saw several tiny moths resting on screen house linings. Delta traps baited with TUA-Optima®(Russell IPM) were set in and around the affected farm. Dozens of moths were attracted and trapped on the sticky surface of the traps. The team tentatively identified the insect asT. absoluta. Scientists at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Nairobi, Kenya identified the insect using morphological features and molecular techniques.

Extracts of Piliostigma thonningii were tested for their effectiveness in controlling Meloidogyne javanica eggs and juveniles in the laboratory and on eggplant cv ‘Yalon Data’. A thousand juveniles were placed in 12 petridishes and extracts of P.  thonningii (Crude extracts, 5 ml dilution and 10 ml dilution of the crude extracts) were dispensed into the petridishes. One thousand eggs of the M. javanica were placed in 12 petridishes and treated with the same extracts used on the juveniles. For the field experiment, 12 plots of size 2m x2m were prepared and planted with nine plants of eggplant cv ‘Yalon Data’. Seedlings of eggplants were transplanted after three weeks in the nursery to the field into holes drenched with 10 ml of the extracts used in the laboratory tests. Subsequent applications of extracts were done weekly for eight weeks. The results showed that the crude extract was the most effective against both the eggs (87.43 % hatch inhibition) and juveniles (90.23 % mortality). In the field, eggplants treated with the crude extract recorded the tallest plants ((124.78 cm -2017 and 125.00 cm-2018), highest number of fruits/plant (18.51-2017 and 19.55-2018), highest yield (50.45t/ha-2017 and 53.78t/ha-2018) and the lowest galling indices and final nematode population. It is therefore concluded that the crude extract of P.  thonningii can be employed for the control of M. javanica in the field.

This study aims to determine the effect of Jatropha Curcas L. leaf extract on the freshness quality of Layang Fish (Decapterus sp.) At room temperature storage. The research consisted of two stages, namely preliminary research and main research. Preliminary research is determining the concentration of castor leaves. The main research is the concentration of Jatropha leaves used, which is 16% with a storage time of 10 hours, 14 hours, 18 hours and 22 hours. The test was carried out organoleptically (hedonic quality) and TPC. This design uses kruskall wallis for organoleptic data (hedonic quality), CRD to obtain TPC results. Organoleptic data and TPC that had a significant effect were tested by Duncan's continued test. The results showed that the fresh fly fish preserved with 16% castor leaf extract was able to maintain the quality of the fresh fly fish for 14 hours of storage. The chemical test results showed that the fresh fly fish with 16% castor leaf extract in 14 hours of storage, the microbiological quality obtained ALT value of 5.03 CFU / g, this fulfills SNI 2729.2013 concerning fresh fish.

Abstract: Indonesia is a tropical country with the second largest biodiversity in the world after Brazil. Jatropha curcas (Jatropha curcas L.) was believed as a pain reliever (analgesic). This study was aimed to prove the analgesic effect of Jatropha curcas leaf extract on Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This was an experimental study using hot stimulus method in the form of temperature of 65°C. Subjects were 15 male Wistar rats divided into 5 groups. Group 1, the negative control group; group 2, the positive control group given paracetamol 40 mg/kgBW; and 3 treatment groups (groups 3, 4, and 5) given Jatropha curcas extract in several doses (300 mg/kgBW, 600 mg/kgBW, and 1200mg/kgBW). Observation of Wistar rat respons (licking and jumping) was performed for 1 minute at minutes -30, 60, 90, and 120 after treatment. The results showed that the mean values of response against heat decreased in accordance to time and reached the lowest values at minute 120, except group 5 (the extract dose of 1200mg/kg BW) which reached the lowest value at minute 90. Overall, the lowest mean value was found in group 4 (the extract dose of 600mg/kg BW). Conclusion: Jatropha curcas (Jatropha curcas L.) leaf extract had an analgesic effect on Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). Keywords: Jatropha curcas L., Rattus norvegicus, analgesic Abstrak: Indonesia merupakan negara beriklim tropis dengan keaneka ragaman hayati terbesar kedua di dunia setelah Brazil.
