Being a significant dimension in affective behavior education, values are guiding concepts for explaining the cognitive and social structures. In the process of value acquisition, the tendency of individuals for the value being targeted for acquisition bears a great significance. In the present study, the main aim is to develop an assessment instrument that can determine the tendency levels for the scientific values among students. In this process, the related literature was reviewed and an item pool was established. The item pool was presented to the expert opinion and following the necessary revisions, it was applied to the sample. The sample consisted of 268 secondary school students. In order to determine the validity of the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. As a result of the validity analyses, a 4-factor structure consisting of 27 items was obtained and each factor was respectively named as the following in accordance with theoretical framework; "Curiosity", "Creativity," "Criticism", and "Inquisitiveness". The Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency coefficient, corrected item correlations, and the stability levels were calculated in order to determine the reliability of the scale. As a result of the study, it was found that the Tendency Scale for Scientific Values consisting of 4 factors and 27 items was a valid and reliable tool that can be used for determining the level of tendency for scientific values.

<p style="text-align: justify;">Computational thinking (CT) is a method for solving complex problems, but also gives people an inventive inspiration to adapt to our smart and changing society. Globally it has been considered as vital abilities for solving genuine issues successfully and efficiently in the 21st century. Recent studies have revealed that the nurture of CT mainly centered on measuring the technical skill. There is a lack of conceptualization and instruments that cogitate on CT disposition and attitudes. This study attends to these limitations by developing an instrument to measure CT concerning dispositions and attitudes. The instruments' validity and reliability testing were performed with the participation from secondary school students in Malaysia. The internal consistency reliability, standardized residual variance, construct validity and composite reliability were examined. The result revealed that the instrument validity was confirmed after removing items. The reliability and validity of the instrument have been verified. The findings established that all constructs are useful for assessing the disposition of computer science students. The implications for psychometric assessment were evident in terms of giving empirical evidence to corroborate theory-based constructs and also validating items' quality to appropriately represent the measurement.</p>

The Motivation Toward the Environment Scale (MTES), developed in Canada, measures people’s self-determined motivation for doing something for the environment. Answering the call by its original developers, this study further validated the MTES within a sample of 779 Dutch-speaking senior secondary school students, aged 17 to 19, in the north of Belgium. More specifically, reliability and construct validity of a Dutch translation of the MTES were verified. To this measure, confirmatory factor analysis was used, and the hypothesized simplex structure was tested through correlation analyses. Results confirmed the reliability of the MTES and a five-scale version of the MTES, excluding identified motivation, is introduced. This variable-centered approach was complemented by the adoption of a person-centered approach for identifying MTES profiles. Using cluster analysis, four meaningful MTES profiles emerged, with amotivation scoring medium to high in all but one. Theoretical implications of the findings and suggestions for interventions and further research are discussed.

Science educators have highlighted the need to develop students to integrate knowledge across science disciplines to address real-world issues. However, there has been little research about the development of interdisciplinary assessment instruments. In this research, the instrument that measures the level of upper-secondary school students’ interdisciplinary understanding of environmental issues was developed and validated based upon Wilson’s Construct Modeling framework. After a pilot testing, the revised assessment instrument of interdisciplinary understanding covering five typical environmental problems comprised 14 multiple-choice questions and four constructed-response questions. Five hundred twenty-three eleventh graders, including 279 boys and 244 girls from mainland China, made up the research sample. The partial credit Rasch analysis has verified the reliability and validity of the interdisciplinary understanding instrument. In addition, the results of cluster analysis revealed that over half of the students could use some partially accurate scientific concepts and principles from two or more disciplinary perspectives to deal with a specific environmental issue. The validated instrument can provide insights for assessing and developing upper-secondary school students’ interdisciplinary understanding in science education. El interés por el estudio de las actitudes de los estudiantes hacia una materia reside en buscar mejorar la enseñanza. Este trabajo da a conocer un instrumento de medida de las actitudes hacia la Expresión Corporal tras un proceso de elaboración y validación. El resultado es un cuestionario estructurado en cuatro factores y 32 ítems dirigido a los estudiantes de Secundaria. El proceso de creación supuso el análisis de la validez de contenido, validez de constructo y fiabilidad. La validez de contenido se llevó a cabo siguiendo la fórmula de Lawshe para analizar la información aportada por un grupo de expertos. La validez de constructo supuso un análisis factorial de los datos extraídos del estudio piloto llevado a cabo. Para determinar la fiabilidad se tuvo en cuenta el cálculo del estadístico alfa de Cronbach. Terminado el proceso de construcción, el resultado es un instrumento de medición de las actitudes hacia la Expresión Corporal de los alumnos de Educación Secundaria. Abstract. The center of interest of studying students’ attitudes towards a subject lies in its possibility to improve the teaching process. This work reveals an instrument to measure attitudes towards Corporal Expression, after a process of elaboration and validation. As a result, we make a questionnarie aimed at Secondary School students and structured into four factors and 32 items known. The building process of the questionnarie consisted of content validity analysis, construct validity, and reliability. Content validity was carried out following the Lawshe formula to analyze the information provided by the group of experts. Construct validity involved a factorial analysis of the data extracted from a pilot study. In order to check reliability, Cronbach alpha statistical calculation was taken into consideration. At the end of this procedure, we obtain an instrument for measuring attitudes towards Corporal Expression in Secondary School Students as the main result.

Our aim was to examine measurement invariance of the Flourishing Scale (FS)—a concise measure of psychological wellbeing—across two study samples and by population characteristics among Canadian adolescents. Data were retrieved from 74,501 Canadian secondary school students in Year 7 (2018–2019) of the COMPASS Study and from the original validation of the FS (n = 689). We assessed measurement invariance using a confirmatory factor analysis in which increasingly stringent equality constraints were specified for model parameters between the following groups: study sample (i.e., adolescents vs. adults), gender, grade, and ethno-racial identity. In all models, full measurement invariance of the FS across all sub-groups was demonstrated. Our findings support the validity of the FS for measuring psychological wellbeing among Canadian adolescents in secondary school. Observed differences in FS score among subgroups therefore represent true differences in wellbeing rather than artifacts of differential interpretation.

Measuring human motivation requires understanding the outcomes individuals value and the strategies they prefer to employ to attain them. Knowledge of promotion and prevention, two pivotal motivation orientations, provide key information regarding these aspects. The Regulatory Focus Questionnaire, which measures these two independent constructs, was validated using data provided by university students and alumni of an elite U.S. university. Thus, little is known whether this instrument provides reliable and valid measures of promotion and prevention in a population of younger respondents from a different culture. To bridge this gap, the study employed data collected from three independent large samples of New Zealand secondary school students and used the jigsaw piecewise technique in combination with confirmatory factor analyses. Findings show that, in this population, items in the Regulatory Focus Questionnaire measure promotion and prevention as theoretically distinct constructs.
