Introduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the efficacy, side effects and recurrence rate of vernal kerato conjunctivitis (VKC) with 0.03% tacrolimus and 0.05% cyclosporin.Material and method: A prospective randomised double blinded comparative study was conducted at a tertiary eye center. 46 Patients of VKC between March 2015- August 2015 were randomly divided into two groups and treated for 6weeks with either Tacrolimus(0.03%) eye ointment BD or Cyclosporine (0.05%) eyedrops QID.The main outcome measures were scoring and comparison of Total subjective symptom scores (TSSS) and Total objective ocular sign scores (TOSS) within and between the Groups at each follow up.Thirty two patients, sixteen from each group, with comparable baseline characters were analysed.Results: With treatment both TSSS and TOSS decreased consistently in both groups without any adverse effects but an increase in scores was noticed within two weeks after drug withdrawal.Conclusion: Both drugs are equally effective and safe in VKC but with short lasting effect.

Metastatic bone cancer occurs in every type of cancer but is prevalent in lung, breast, and prostate cancers. These metastases can cause extensive morbidity, including a range of skeletal-related events, often painful and linked with substantial hospital resource usage. The treatment used is a combination of chemotherapy and surgery. However, anticancer drugs are still limited due to severe side effects, drug resistance, poor blood supply, and non-specific drug uptake, necessitating high toxic doses. Bisphosphonates are the main class of drugs utilized to inhibit metastatic bone cancer. It is also used for the treatment of osteoporosis and other bone diseases. However, bisphosphonate also suffers from serious side effects. Thus, there is a serious need to develop bisphosphonate conjugates with promising therapeutic outcomes for treating metastatic bone cancer and osteoporosis. This review article focuses on the biological outcomes of designed bisphosphonate-based conjugates for the treatment of metastatic bone cancer and osteoporosis.

Abstract: opioids and local anesthetics have been the traditional choice in epidural analgesia. However opioids suffer from the issue of side effects and res piratory depression. The use of newer agent like dexmedetomidine is a viable option. The present study was formulated to provide a comparative assessment of whether fentanyl or dexmedetomidine is a better adjuvant for lower limb surgeries in which epidural route is used. The study included a pool of 30 subjects who were divided in two equal groups and administered fentanyl or dexmedetomidine. The results displayed a shorter duration of sensory block and motor block in dexmedetomidine group as compared to fentanyl. The overall efficacy of dexmedetomidine was better in the present study. Background: Anal fissure is a common anorectal condition that affecting all age groups, but it is seen in young and healthy adults with equal incidence across both the sexes. The objective of this study was to evaluate and prospectively compare fissurectomy versus lateral internal sphincterotomy in the treatment of chronic anal fissure in terms of symptomatic relief, healing, recurrence and incontinence, if any.Methods: 50 patients with chronic anal fissure were alternately divided in two groups. In one group fissurectomy was done and in another group, patients underwent lateral internal sphincterotomy and comparative evaluation was done.Results: Complete healing was observed in 92% patients in fissurectomy group and 96% patients in lateral internal sphincterotomy group at the end of 6 weeks. Fissurectomy group patients reported early cut through of sutures and infection whereas in lateral internal sphincterotomy group two patients developed perianal hematoma at 3 months of follow up.Conclusions: While considering surgical management for treating chronic anal fissure, fissurectomy is comparable to lateral internal sphincterotomy in terms of symptomatic pain relief, healing rates with minimal side effects and low recurrence.

The authors conducted a clinical investigation on sixty-nine pregnant women, anaemic and non-anaemic, the purpose being to assess the effect of 50 days treatment with four different medicinal iron preparations, namely, ferrous sulphate, iron chondroitinsulfuric acid complex, and ferritin alone or associated with folinic acid and cobamamide, on various haematological parameters (Hb, RCC, Ht, CV, Iron, and Transferrin IBC). The four products demonstrated a similar efficacy in maintaining anaemic conditions under control; moreover, the results confirmed our hypothesis of the absorption of iron ferritin. While three products were well tolerated, ferrous sulphate induced, in some cases, side-effects.

Emerging evidence demonstrates that microRNAs, as important endogenous posttranscriptional regulators, are essential for bone remodeling and regeneration. Undoubtedly, microRNA-based gene therapies show great potential to become novel approaches against bone-related diseases, including osteoporosis and associated fractures. The major obstacles for continued advancement of microRNA-based therapies in clinical application include their poorin vivostability, nonspecific biodistribution, and unwanted side effects. Appropriate chemical modifications and delivery vectors, which improve the biological performance and potency of microRNA-based drugs, hold the key to translating miRNA technologies into clinical practice. Thus, this review summarizes the current attempts and existing deficiencies of chemical modifications and delivery systems applied in microRNA-based therapies for osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures to inform further explorations.

Cisplatin (cis-dichlorodiammineplatinum(II)) a potent antitumor agent is now available for the treatment of testicular and ovarian cancers. It is however, not free from its serious side effects including nephrotoxicity, gastro intestinal toxicity, myelosuppression, and ototoxicity. Here we now report that the drug produces peculiar bloating of the stomach in rats and induces acute ulceration.Wistar-derived rats weighing 200-250 g were administered cisplatin(9 mg/kg) ip as a single dose in 0.15 M NaCl. After 3 days the animals were sacrificed by decapitation. The stomachs were removed, the contents analyzed for pepsin and acidity. The inner surface was examined with a dissecting microscope after a moderate stretching for ulcers. Affected areas were fixed and processed for routine electron microscopy and enzyme cytochemistry.The drug treated animals kept on food and water consistently showed bloating and lesions (Fig. 1) with a frequency of 6-70 ulcers in the rumen section of the stomachs.
