The existence of three autochthonous crayfish species is confirmed in the northwest of the Republic of Srpska: Astacus astacus, Pontastacus leptodactylus and Austropotamobius torrentium. There is a lack of information on the European crayfish population status in the Republic of Srpska comparing to other European countries. Our aim is to generate the latest information on crayfish distribution and population status, and make it the basis for managing and preserving natural population. The present study was implemented in the period from April 2018 until September 2019. Mostly distributed crayfish species in the Republic of Srpska is A. torrentium registered in 12 locations at altitude ranging from 201 to 846 m in the Vrbas river basin, but it is also present in the tributary streams of the Sana river, in ecologically-like habitats, in particular in relatively clear waters with low quantity of organic substances (I and II water category). A. astacus is mainly present in the Crna river basin, forming both river and lake population (a great number thereof is present in the Balkana lake) – waters with oxygen concentration over 8g O2 m-3 and with BOD5 values below 0.5g O2 m-3. P. leptodactylus was found only in two locations: The Matura river (in Srbac) and the Vrbas river (upstream from Razboj), in the I-III category waters. The identified possible threats for autochthonous crayfish in fresh water ecosystems of the Republic of Srpska require urgent water management and preservation actions.

The trends in the distribution and occurrence of the freshwater crayfish in the water bodies of the Neman River basin are presents. It has been shown that both native species: the noble and the narrow-clawed crayfish are declined and/or are displaced with rapidly expanding its range the invasive spiny-cheek crayfish. In recent years the alien species was found in isolated gravel pits and lakes, where it could be transferred only by the human activity. These findings confirm the need of the education about the threats posed by the invasive species on the native biodiversity especially with the local community, which is an obligatory practice for protection the native species in the area expanded with non-native crayfish species. Further, to increase the likelihood of the local biodiversity conservation it is highly needed to undertake targeted actions aimed at resettling endangered populations into waterbodies unavailable for the invasive spiny-cheek crayfish expansion.

White-clawed crayfishAustropotamobius pallipes(Lereboullet, 1858) are one of five crayfish species indigenous to Europe, and the only crayfish species to occur in Ireland. With no known invasive species posing a risk, the Irish population is of considerable conservation importance, particularly in a European context. While there are a number of capture techniques described for crayfish population studies, many have a number of limitations associated with them. There is a need therefore to evaluate new and emerging techniques, so as to assess their efficacy for monitoringA. pallipespopulations. Artificial refuge traps (ARTs), an alternative passive capture method, were evaluated against three other widely used capture techniques during the summer months of 2015. Results indicate ARTs to be an effective technique for sampling crayfish, and suggest that, in combination with other capture methods, ARTs could depict accurate population structures, and reduce some of the sampling effort and bias associated with crayfish monitoring.

In topic-related literature pertaining to the treatment of water, there is a lack of information on the influence of iron ions in highly basic polyaluminum chlorides on the efficiency of purifying water with increased contents of organic substance. The aim of this work was to determine the changes in the content of organic substances as well as iron compounds in water intended for human consumption following unit treatment processes with particular attention paid to the coagulation process. As coagulants, polyaluminium chloride PAXXL10 with an alkalinity of 70%, as well as polyaluminium chloride PAXXL1911 with an alkalinity of 85% the composition of which also contained iron, were tested. The analysis of the obtained results showed that iron compounds and organic substances were removed to the greatest extent by the coagulation process, which also had a significant influence on the final efficiency of water treatment. The effectiveness of water treatment was determined by the type of tested polyaluminum chloride, which influenced the formation of iron-organic complexes. The reason behind the formation of colored iron-organic complexes during coagulation using PAXXL1911 coagulant was the high pH (approx. 8), at which the functional groups of organic substances, due to their dissociation, are more reactive in relation to iron, and possibly the fact of introducing additional iron ions along with the coagulant.

Multiple mating is expected to be common in organisms that produce large clutches as a mechanism by which sexual reproduction can enrich genetic variation. For freshwater crayfish, observation of multiple mating suggests the potential for high rates of multiple paternity, but genetic confirmation is largely lacking from natural populations. We studied paternity within wild-caught broods of two crayfish species in the genus Orconectes (Sanborn’s crayfish (Orconectes sanbornii (Faxon, 1884)) and the Allegheny crayfish (Orconectes obscurus (Hagen, 1870))). Although females have been observed mating with multiple males, this is the first genetic confirmation of multiple paternity in broods of these two species. Berried females were collected in the field and maintained in aquaria until their eggs hatched. We amplified and genotyped extracted DNA from maternal and hatchling tissue for several microsatellite loci. For both species, paternity reconstruction (GERUD 2.0) yielded 2–3 sires per brood and no single paternity clutches. We discuss these results from natural populations in light of the body of work on reproductive ecology of decapod crustaceans and in the context of changes in life history following the transition from marine to freshwater habitats.

Pleurospermum austriacum (Apiaceae) is reported from the Bistrica River basin in the Sar Mountains as a new native species in the flora of the Republic of Macedonia. This is also the first report of the genus Pleurospermum in the country?s flora.

Based on the study, many years of information and analytical materials «Kyrgyzhydromet» and «Kazhydromet», as well as the Department of State Statistics of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan, characterizing the formation of water resources and their use in the economic sectors of the catchment area of the Shu River basin, were considered as a model of the "activity-natural system", which performs runoff, environment-forming, ecological and social functions and is the spatial basis of nature management for a comprehensive assessment of the state of the territory and water bodies. As a basis for assessing the main functions of the catchment area of the Shu River basin, a geosystem approach was used, which determines the scientific and practical feasibility of geomorphological schematization, within the framework of which it becomes possible to construct their ecological profile on a spatio-temporal scale, which makes it possible to establish trends in the development of cognitive and transformative activities that determine the direction and intensity of anthropogenic activity. in the region. The main natural function of the river basin of the formation of a hydrogeochemical flow, which has one object for its discharge, determines the qualitative state of the ecological profile of the catchment area of the Shu River basin, that is, depending on the zonation from the mountainous class of landscapes to the lowland class of landscapes (superaquial and subaquial facies), natural hydrological facies are gradually disrupted. rhythms, affects the hydrogeological and soil-reclamation processes and environmental conditions, especially in the lower reaches of river basins, which are zones of storage of return (collector-drainage and waste) waters of industrial and agricultural facilities.
