Tetrasomy 8 Associated with a Poor Prognosis in Acute Monoblastic Leukemia: A Case Report

Pulmonary angiosarcoma is a rare clinical entity with a poor prognosis and no established therapeutic strategies. We present the first case to our knowledge of metastatic pulmonary angiosarcoma, treated with checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy, and have an excellent response. Until now, patient has been treated with immunotherapy for 1 year, and his disease is stable and well-tolerated.

Abstract Malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney is an uncommon renal tumor in children. The tumor has aggressive behavior and a poor prognosis and is extremely rare in adults; only 3 cases of renal rhabdoid tumors have been reported in adults. We describe here the microscopic, immunohistochemical, and electron microscopic characteristics of another case in a 38-year-old woman. This case reinforces the importance of recognizing this entity in the adult population.

Feline dysautonomia is a devastating disease characterized by neuronal degeneration in autonomic ganglia that results in clinical signs related to dysfunction of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The cause is unknown and this disease has a poor prognosis and no definitive treatment. Most reports have been described in few countries around the world, but the prevalence may be underestimated in countries like Brazil. This study describes the progression and clinicopathological changes of dysautonomia in a 17-month-old female Brazilian shorthair cat.

The loosely structured periodontal ligament and low mineralized bone surrounding erupting teeth provide minimal resistance to an extrusive force. The maxillary central incisors are the most frequently avulsed due to trauma. The prognosis of replanted teeth is affected by extra-alveolar period and conditions. Implant-supported restorations are contraindicated in adolescent patients with poor prognosis traumatized teeth. Autotransplantation of premolar to the anterior region provides a viable treatment alternative.<br/>This case report describes the autotransplantation of premolars and esthetic rehabilitation in a teenage patient with traumatized incisors, poor oral hygiene, and severe crowding. Comprehensive and long-term treatments were performed to improve complex and challenging oral problems.

Epiphyseal fractures account for about one fifth of pediatric fractures. Approximately 10% cause major growth disturbances, depending on the location and type of the fracture and the skeletal maturity of the child. Intra-articular Salter-Harris type IV fractures are rare, carry a poor prognosis, and almost always need surgical reduction to prevent deformity. We present a case report of a pediatric patient who returned to normal function after the successful surgical reduction of a Salter-Harris type IV fracture in the proximal phalanx of the great toe.

Abstract Seventy-four cases of pure acute monoblastic leukemia (AMol) have been retrospectively studied. All patients were treated at Hospital Saint- Louis between 1970 and 1978. Diagnosis was based on morphological and cytochemical features according to the FAB classification. This type of leukemia occurred at any age and in both sexes, with a high frequency of extramedullary involvements. Hyperleukocytosis was very frequent and was significantly correlated with increased blood and urine levels of lysozyme, with renal failure and hypokalemia, and with coagulation abnormalities. AMol still has a poor prognosis, despite a best remission rate (75%) obtained with rubidazone, since the duration of complete remission was short. Central nervous irradiation prolonged remission and prevented meningeal relapses, while 6 meningeal relapses occurred in the patients not irradiated. The high frequency of the extramedullary relapses, including gum and skin, emphasized the question of persistant blast cell sanctuaries after achievement of bone marrow remissions. A more intensive induction with several drugs active against monoblasts could be more efficient and prolong the duration of complete remissions.
