The Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, better known as Bloom’s Taxonomy, is a classification system that governs how learning objectives are designed, implemented and assessed. First proposed in 1956, Benjamin Bloom began his scrutiny into educational objectives by exploring the cognitive domain (which will serve as the focus for this chapter). Later, with other colleagues including Lorin W. Krathwohl and S. R. Kibler, he considered the affective and psychomotor domains to round out his body of study. Bloom’s taxonomy differentiates six levels of teaching and learning: (1) knowledge, (2) comprehension, (3) application, (4) analysis, (5) synthesis, and (6) evaluation. This chapter offers a perspective for developing instruction purposely targeting the traditional learner.

This study was designed to investigate the instructional effectiveness of eight types of visual illustrations used to complement oral instruction. Tenth grade students received identical oral presentations and viewed their respective visual treatments for equal amounts of time. Students were randomly assigned by class to treatment groups, received a pretest, participated in their respective instructional presentation and received four individual criterial measures. Results indicated that the use of visual illustrations to complement oral instruction is an effective way of increasing student achievement on the criterial tests. The analysis also indicated that some types of visuals are more effective than others in facilitating student achievement of specific educational objectives.

In educational community, assessment process focuses on learning, teaching and outcomes. It provides information for improving learning and teaching. Therefore, a well-established assessment process plays a vital role for improving program outcomes which, in turn, results in fulfilling program educational objectives. However, such a process entails setting well-defined courses learning objectives, program outcomes, and program educational objectives. In addition, an effective assessment method is needed for measuring the extent that program outcomes meet academic accreditation body criteria. This measurement is performed by mapping courses learning objectives with program educational objectives passing through program outcomes. Such mapping for just one academic accreditation body is a straightforward process and involves no complications. However, a coherent assessment method is required for multi academic accreditation bodies. The approach of mapping program outcomes across criteria of multi academic accreditation bodies is likely a promising key for addressing this issue. The proposed assessment method along with the assignments and practices used for evaluating students’ performance such as quizzes and exams, and the associated action plans and recommendations for improvements are crucial steps for the overall assessment process. Findings based on the results of samples taken from a number of students for some courses of computer science program show the flexibility and effectiveness of the proposed assessment method.

Today, the human problem in social life concerning education is growing more complex; many new ideas emerge as the level of human intellectuality grows. This paper will reveal the current issue of education in Indonesia and discuss ideas from the concept of liberal education. The basic issue of education criticized by liberal education is that education today focuses more on the needs of society than the educational objectives themselves. Education as a tool to transfer science, values, and agents of social change is seen as one alternative solution in the framework of improving people's lives. The education in which values are embodied is one of the efforts offered by genuine liberal education, aimed at giving us the habits, ideas and techniques necessary to continue our own education. Humans have the ability to learn continuously throughout life so that we can prepare ourselves to study and again as long as we are alive.
