The study assessed agricultural technology adoption behavior among small scale crop farmers in Ikwerre local Government, Rivers state. The aim of the study was to assess small scale farmers’ adoption behavior on new farm input, farm techniques and farm machineries/tools. One hypothesis was tested to determine the influence of crop farmers’ socioeconomic characteristics on agricultural technology adoption behavior. The study adopted a correlation survey design. The population of the study was all registered crop farmers in Ikwerre local Government Rivers State.  Eighty (80) small scale crop farmers were selected using cluster random sampling technique. The instrument used for the study was a self-structured questionnaire which was face and content validated by research experts. The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach Alpha which gave to 0.88 reliability coefficient. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data gathered from the respondents and the hypothesis was tested using multiple regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that uncertainty, fear of taking risk to test the new inputs and waiting to see the consequences of the new technology on early adopters among others are the agricultural technology adoption behaviour among crop farmers in Ikwerre local Government Rivers State. The study also concluded that socio-economic characteristics of farmers significantly influence agricultural technology (Farm input, techniques, and machineries/tools) adoption behavior among crop farmers. It was recommended that Agricultural extension agents should publicize the positive result of the new farm technology among rural farmers so as to increase the adoption rate of agricultural technology.

The present study provides a systematic estimate of male and female participation in agricultural production and usage of agricultural technology and examines their influence in the adoption of modern technology in three upazilas in Jamalpur district. The study was followed by the simple random sampling technique to select 190 sample of respondents for household survey through the semi-structured questionnaire. There has been a significant change with the livestock rearing activities which are 118.79% after adoption of new technology. It is evident that the decision regarding farming with adoption of new technology attains the highest rank. The second highest ranked decision is technical training on technology. Similarly, the third ranked decision is use of modern technology. The modern technology improves the quality of management and materials (seeds, land, tools). The experience on modern technology of respondents has a positive coefficient and it was 0.492. However, our research showed that about 65.2% of the respondents were women as users of traditional agricultural machinery. Given these facts, our research has explained what keeps women's rates of modern agricultural technology adoption low.

The study examined the role of Agricultural Journalism on the adoption of agricultural innovation among farmers in Etche local Government Area Rivers State. The population of the study comprised all registered small scale farmers and extension workers in Etche Local Government area. The sample size of the study was 105 small scale farmers and 32 extension workers selected using simple random sampling techniques. The instrument used was a self-structured questionnaire title “Role of Agricultural Journalism on the Adoption of Agricultural Innovation among small scale farmers. The validation of the instrument was done by two experts and the reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient. However, the reliability index obtained was 0.86, which is acceptable for instrument consistency. Mean and the standard deviation were used to analyze the responses on each item. Items ≥ 2.50 were accepted, otherwise were rejected. Z-test statistical tool was employed to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study established that creating awareness on modern farming methods, providing information on the effectiveness of crop varieties, establishing the procedure of input combination, communicating the impacts and accomplishment of the innovation, disseminating agricultural research findings to farmers are roles of agricultural journalism on the adoption of agricultural innovation among farmers in Etche. The study recommends that agricultural research institutes should also utilize agricultural journalism to educate farmers on their new development. Agricultural journals should contain detailed information about the use of innovation.

The study investigated attitude of teachers towards inclusion of students with learning disabilities in the normal school settings in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. A descriptive survey design was used for the study. Six research questions and six null hypotheses was formulated to guide the study. The population of study involved 3025 teachers in the area. A stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting a sample of three hundred and ninety nine (399) teachers. Chisquare was used in testing the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Out of the 399 teachers, 253 were involved in the study. The result of the findings shows that teachers only teachers training and teacher’s age significantly influence inclusion of students with learning disability whereas teacher’s gender, experience, qualification and marital status had not significant effect on inclusion of students with learning disability. The finding also indicated that generally teachers had positive attitude towards inclusion of students with learning disabilities. The attitude of teachers is perceived to have been influenced by lack of provision for additional programme that will improve education of students with learning difficulties and required training for teachers in special needs education.

Background: The hawking of wares by children has been a serious issue confronting the Nigerian society. Children hawk in some of the most horrible conditions conceivable, where they face a serious risk of injury, chronic illness, kidnapping, rape or death. Objective: The focus of this study was to assess the perceived effects of street hawking on the well-being of children in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. Methods: The population of this study consists of parents of the street hawkers in Anyigba while cross-sectional survey design was used through the purposive sampling technique to choose the sample size of one hundred and sixty-two (162) respondents. The validated structured questionnaire and In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) served as the instruments for the data collection respectively. The hypotheses were tested using Chi-Square at a predetermined 0.05 level of significance. The quantitative data were analysed with the aid of the SPSS (version 20). Results: The results indicated among others that street hawking had significant social implications and physical consequences on children's moral behaviour as well as health status in the study area. Conclusion: The study, therefore, concluded that the government of Kogi State should carry out an enlightenment campaign through the media and religious institutions on the negative consequences of street hawking are recommended as panacea. Also, the child right act instrument and its implementation should be strengthened in order to curb street hawking in the study area.

The paper investigated the perceived influence of students’ demographic variables on their access to financial aids in public Universities in Rivers State, Nigeria. Six questions were formulated to guide the study and five hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The design adopted for the study was an analytical survey. The population of the study included 78, 216 students (34,997 male and 43,219 female) in the three public Universities in Rivers State. The sample of the study covered 791 students (Male= 395 and Female= 396) selected through the random sampling technique while Taro Yamane method of sample size determination was used for determining the sample size. The instruments used for collecting responses from students were questionnaire and a ten items interview schedule. The research questions were answered using frequency, percentage and cumulative percentage. Findings of the study revealed that students’ demographic variables have an influence on their access to financial aids in public Universities in Rivers State, Nigeria. The implication of this is that the government’s expenditure on education will continue to increase in the absence of these alternative financial aids in the public Universities in Rivers State, Nigeria.

ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to identify knowledge gaps and the level of knowledge on climate-smart agriculture among small-scale farmers in Mahikeng Local Municipality. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 170 respondents from a population size of1449. A descriptive and quantitative research design was used for this study. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse data. Most respondents were males, married, had high school education and farming experience of more than 20 years. Livestock farming, was found to be the main agricultural activity amongst the respondents. Knowledge test statements revealed that, respondents had a low level of knowledge about climate-smart agriculture. Age, access to climate information, farm income per month and access to off-farm income had statistically significant relationships with respondents' level of knowledge on climate-smart agriculture. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that, there should be training and education activities which should be implemented to assist small-scale farmers in Mahikeng Local Municipality in increasing their knowledge on climate-smart agriculture.
