The experiment was conducted using 140 lentil genotypes at (farm name?) Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur in 2017-18. The genetic divergences were estimated using D2 analysis where a number of clusters were formed considering all genotypes of indigenous and exogenous types. Genetic variation of genotypes in considerable traits was significant for selection of desired type that can be utilised in future breeding programme. The study on correlation, genotypic variability, and path analysis of seed yield and yield components were essential for determining the relevance of considerable traits in enhancement of seed yield. The total genotypes were grouped into 5 clusters viz. Cluster I was found to be the largest comprising 121 genotypes, followed by cluster III of 12 genotypes. Cluster II, IV had three genotypes each and V was monogenic. Seeds per plant, days to maturity and pods per plant contributed extreme divergence among the genotypes which can be integrated in enhancement of productivity of lentil. On the basis of cluster mean, intra and inter cluster distance and per se cluster III, IV and V may be used for their desired characters in breeding strategy. The genotypes BRL-1, BRL-2, BRL-3 LKH-1, LKH-2, LKH-3, FLIP 2010-73L-2, FLIP 2010-86L and X2011S-111-2 may be considered in breeding to gain high heterotic effect and also to improve the desirable transgressive segregants.

The present investigation was carried out using thirty two pigeonpea genotypes during kharif 2013-14 to obtain the knowledge of correlation, path coefficient analysis for the yield components and genetic divergence. The range of GCV was observed from 9.81 to 40.88% for the traits under study which provides information regarding the extent of variability present among the genotypes. Seed yield was significantly and positively correlated with number of secondary branches/plant, pods/plant and 100-seed weight. Path coefficient analysis indicated that number of secondary branches exhibited maximum direct effect followed by number of pods/plant and 100 seed weight. The genotypes were grouped into eight different clusters based on Mahalonobis D2 statistics. Clusters II and III exhibited maximum inter cluster distance of 8.80. Days to 50% flowering contributed to maximum genetic divergence followed by seed yield. Genotypes in cluster III recorded highest mean value for days to maturity, number of secondary branches and seed yield.

Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the oldest oilseed crops and important for high nutritional quality as well as medicinal value. Fifty diverse sesame genotypes were evaluated to study genetic variability. The results revealed that the genotypes were a significant variation in most of the studied characters. In all cases, the phenotypic variances were much higher than genotypic variances suggests a higher level of the environmental effect on the expression of these characters. The highest genotypic coefficient of variations (GCV) was observed in seed yield per plant while the highest heritability was exhibited by hundred seed weight followed by days to 80% maturity, pods per plant, number of branches per plant and seed yield per plant. The genotypic correlation with seed yield per plant showed a significantly strong positive with days to 50% flowering, plant height and number of pods per plant at both the genotypic and phenotypic level. The path coefficient analysis showed that pods per plant and seeds per pod were the most important contributing traits to seed yield. The 50 sesame genotypes were grouped into five clusters. The highest inter-cluster distance was observed between the cluster III and V while the lowest inter-cluster distance was observed between the cluster III and IV. Among 50 sesame genotypes G7, G36, G38 and G46 might be suggested for future hybridization program for the improvement of sesame yield.

Soybean is a crop of major economic importance with low rates of genetic gains for grain yield compared to other field crops. A deeper understanding of the genetic architecture of yield components may enable better ways to tackle the breeding challenges. Key yield components include the total number of pods, nodes and the ratio pods per node. We evaluated the SoyNAM population, containing approximately 5600 lines from 40 biparental families that share a common parent, in 6 environments distributed across 3 years. The study indicates that the yield components under evaluation have low heritability, a reasonable amount of epistatic control, and partially oligogenic architecture: 18 quantitative trait loci were identified across the three yield components using multi-approach signal detection. Genetic correlation between yield and yield components was highly variable from family-to-family, ranging from -0.2 to 0.5. The genotype-by-environment correlation of yield components ranged from -0.1 to 0.4 within families. The number of pods can be utilized for indirect selection of yield. The selection of soybean for enhanced yield components can be successfully performed via genomic prediction, but the challenging data collections necessary to recalibrate models over time makes the introgression of QTL a potentially more feasible breeding strategy. The genomic prediction of yield components was relatively accurate across families, but less accurate predictions were obtained from within family predictions and predicting families not observed included in the calibration set.

An attempt was made to study blackgram germplasm with an objective to develop genetically diverse genotypes accompanied with high heritable components of yield contributing traits. The experimental material comprised of 21 blackgram genotypes, was examined during kharif 2015 and 2016. Experimental study conducted during kharif 2015, was mainly relied on selection of transgressive segregants, which were further analyzed in Compact Family Block Design during kharif 2016. The results depicted that families and progenies within families were significantly different for majority of the traits and found to be highly variable for biological yield, harvest index and seed yield. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance were recorded for plant height (74.15%, 33.12%), branches per plant (84.34%, 40.55%), biological yield (83.51%, 69.11%) and seed yield (84.50%, 66.11%). Thus, the present findings could be beneficial to develop superior genotypes through selection in blackgram breeding program.

Estimation of Genetic Variability and Correlation Among Early Maturity Mungbean Yield Components. Ratri T. Hapsari. Early maturity mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] is very important to avoid drought stress, pest and disease attack as well as increase the index planting. The aims of this research was to estimate genetic variability and correlation. The genetic study included heritability, coefficient of genetic variability, genetic advance and correlation among yield components so that it can be used as selection criteria for early maturity mungbean. A total of 145 accessions of mungbean were tested at Muneng farm station in March-June 2010 using a randomized block design, with two replicates. Each accession was planted at 0.8 m x 4 m with spacing 40 cm x 10 cm, with two plants/hole. Fertilization was done by adding 50 kg urea, 75 kg SP36, and 75 kg KCl/ha, at the time of planting. The results showed that mungbean accesions had significant differences in all characters tested. The genetic variance value of all characters was broad with high broadsense heritability estimates, except for number of pods/ cluster and seed number/pod. Genetic advance of all characters were high, except for seed number/pod. The phenotypic correlation between 1000 seeds weight and pod length with seed yield were positive significant while plant height, flowering days, days to maturity, and number of pods per plant had negative significant correlation with its yield. Therefore, plant height, days to maturity, pod lenght, 1000 seeds weight and seed yield could be used as selection criteria based on estimating value of genetic variability, correlation with yield and economic value. There were five genotype which have index value above 20, i.e MLGV 0353, MLGV 0362, MLGV 0354, MLGV 0358, and MLGV 0351.

Abstrak

Kacang hijau [Vigna radiata (L.)
