The development of mathematical skills for the primary cycle is a triple challenge in the current context of education in Romania. The first of the challenges is given by the fact that education has become an activity still unstructured with political movements and decisions, implicitly with the changes that have taken place in the ministerial apparatus. The second challenge is given by the methodological changes and of the school curriculum, which comes as a completion of the first challenge, and the third challenge is given by the weight of the teachers in making mathematics an attractive discipline. In this sense, the challenge for us is to show that this triple barrier can be overcome. As such, in the present study, a mixed-method of presenting the mathematical contents in the classroom is proposed, especially for the preparatory group, class I and II, through the prism of the instruments offered by the Romanian thematic philately. The results of the study are presented in the form of worksheets, of which we present only excerpts to summarize the possibilities arising from the association of philately with notions of mathematics training for the primary cycle.

The first of the challenges is given by the fact that classical education, but also the online one, has become an activity, still unstructured, concerning movements, decisions, and political pressures, implicitly with the changes that occurred in the ministerial apparatus. The second challenge is given by the methodological changes and of the school curriculum, which comes as a completion of the first challenge, being felt even in the teaching-learning-evaluation specific to geometry. The third challenge is given by the weight that teachers face in making geometry a discipline that appeals to students, attractive. In this sense, the challenge for us is to show that this triple barrier can be overcome. As such, the present study proposes a mixed method of presenting the geometric contents in the classroom for the preparatory group, class I and II, through the prism of the instruments offered by the Romanian thematic philately. The results of the study are presented in the form of worksheets, of which we present only fragments to summarize the possibilities arising from the association of thematic philately with notions of geometry.

Background: Dental agenesis is a term that refers to the absence of one or more teeth, and hypodontia refers to a severe type of tooth agenesis involving less than six or more than one congenitally missing teeth, excluding the third molars. Purpose: This aimed to report the correction of overbite by using intrusion archwires. Case: A 20-year-old female patient had class I malocclusion and deep overbite, incisor retroclination, mild mandibular crowding and agenesis of 12, 13, 14, 15, and 24. Case management: The case was treated with non-extraction using 0.022 pre-adjusted technique to level and unravel using intrusion archwires to correct the deep overbite. Conclusion: The 17-month treatment resulted in a corrected overbite, good occlusion, and good facial aesthetics.

Its superior value-teleological, normative and axiological evolution reflects and constructively processes the interactive psychological and sociocultural reality, perfectible with concrete effects, realistically anticipated on the learners, as well as on the process itself. Restructuring the school curriculum (framework plans and curricula) is necessary to promote values-based on education, creativity, cognitive skills, volitional skills and action skills, basic knowledge and knowledge skills and abilities of direct use, in the profession, in society and focus the curriculum on the formation and development / diversification of key competences. The curricular review will place greater emphasis on the development of transversal competences, including digital ones, those on sustainable development and socio-emotional competences. The argument for the need to reconfigure the current learning process is to opt for a holistic, transdisciplinary and functional-pragmatic approach to learning outcomes.

This chapter examines the evolution of feminism as an ideology using the analogy of ‘waves’, a term that indicates high points of debate and activism followed by more fallow periods. It first traces the historical origins of feminism from the first to the third wave and a possible fourth. It then considers whether feminism is an ideology in its own right and goes on to identify variants of feminism such as liberal feminism, separatism and political lesbianism/lesbian feminism, transfeminism, revolutionary feminism, eco-feminism, and black feminism. The chapter also explores the links between feminism and other ideological perspectives as well as the connection between the national and global dimensions of feminism and the ways in which feminist ideology has been expressed in political movements and shaped the policies of governments and international organizations. Finally, it tackles the question of whether ‘post-feminism’ has rendered feminism obsolete.

Previously, we cloned and sequenced the three novel MHC class I genes expressed by the C3H UV fibrosarcoma, 1591. We have extended the analysis of the polymorphic nature of these genes relative to the C3H strain. Scattered nucleotide differences among the tumor genes as compared with the C3H H-2 and Qa sequences make it highly unlikely that the novel tumor genes were generated by recombination between endogenous C3H sequences. Given that two of the tumor clones, A149 and A166, are remarkably similar in amino acid and DNA sequence to H-2Lq and H-2Dq, respectively, we also examined the 1591 RP2 and GUS loci for evidence of polymorphism. Compared with C3H and B10.AKM, 1591 appears to be heterozygous at each of these loci, consistent with an H-2q origin for the two novel 1591 class I genes. Interestingly, the third tumor gene, designated A216, shares certain characteristics with the H-2Ks antigen, reminiscent of the naturally occurring combination of H-2Ks, H-2Dq, and H-2Lq antigens found in some Swiss mouse strains. As a result, we propose that the non-C3H/HeN characteristics displayed by the 1591 tumor point to a non-C3H origin for the novel tumor class I genes of 1591.

Given the nature and development of Australian society, it is important that we reassess the place of mathematics in the school curriculum, and particularly its place as one of the basic shared student experiences.It is in the national interest that school programs promote adequate levels of competence within good mathematics programs, and that as many people as possible achieve at those levels. It is also in the interests of Australia and its people that individuals reach as high a level as possible in the subject. Mathematics is important chiefly because it can help in understanding and interpreting many aspects of the world. It can help a person make a significant contribution to a technological society.So when we address basic skills in mathematics, it is important that we address them within the context of a total mathematics program. Basic skills involve more than arithmetic skills, and understanding of mathematical concepts and processes is more important than knowledge of isolated facts and skills. The following should not be read or interpreted as a list of differentiated topics but as a list of different facets from which the mathematics curriculum may be examined.This is the first national statement of basic mathematical skills and concepts for effective participation in Australian society. It has been prepared for and endorsed by the Standing Committee of the Australian Mathematics Education Program and is offered as a statement of informed professional opinion.

AbstractAn identification has been conducted of class I methanol masers with 1) short-wave infrared objects EGO (extended green objects) - tracer bipolar outflow of matter in young stellar objects, and 2) isolated pre-protostellar gas-dust cores of the interstellar medium which are observed in absorption in the mid-infrared in the Galactic plane. It is shown that more than 50% of class I methanol masers are identified with bipolar outflows, considering the EGO as bipolar outflows (as compared with the result of 22% in the first version of the MMI catalog that contains no information about EGO). 99 from 139 class I methanol masers (71%) are identified with SDC. Thus, it seems possible that the MMI can be formed in isolated self-gravitating condensations, which are the silhouette of dark clouds - IRDC and SDC.

Abstract Introduction: TRALI is acute lung injury occurring during or within hours of a blood transfusion. The etiology is thought to be infusion of leukocyte antibodies or neutrophil priming and activation caused by biologically active lipids in blood components. We report a TRALI reaction associated with fresh frozen plasma (FFP) and activation of complement in both the unit of FFP and the patient at the time of the reaction. Case History: A 59 year old male with factor XI was admitted to the hospital with hematochezia and given 3 units of FFP. During infusion of the third unit, he developed dyspnea and cyanosis requiring ventilator and O2 support. A chest x-ray showed bilateral diffuse pulmonary infiltrates, CVP was 3 mm Hg, and an echocardiogram was normal. The symptoms resolved in 3 days. Methods: Samples from donors and/or units were screened for the presence of HLA antibodies by ELISA and lymphocytotoxicity and antibodies detected were typed for HLA specificity and antibody class. Reactivity was determined by flow crossmatch. Serologic and molecular HLA typing was completed on donor and patient samples. Priming activity of the implicated FFP, fresh plasma from donor and recipient, and plasma from controls was completed against freshly isolated neutrophils from the three sources. Significant activity was defined as >1.5 times the fMLP stimulated superoxide anion (O2−) production. C3aLE, C4aLE, SC5b-9, and Bb were determined by standard techniques. Results: HLA antibodies were only detected in the third unit of FFP. Samples from this unit and the donor exhibited HLA Class I and II reactivity by ELISA but not lymphocytotoxicity. Flow crossmatch cells demonstrated Class II, IgG reactivity of donor serum against recipient DR11, 13. No autologous reactivity was demonstrated. The FFP unit primed the fMLP response in donor, recipient and control neutrophils 2.6, 3.1, and 3.4 fold above baseline. Testing of donor, recipient and control plasma obtained 3 months after the reaction showed no priming against the same battery of cells (priming ratio 0.8–1.3). C4aLE (105%, control range 24–176%); C3aLE (476%, control range 21–180%); and Bb (351%, control range 31–169%) were elevated in recipient samples obtained during the TRALI reaction and SC5b-9 was at the high end of normal (164%, control 0–200%). These returned to normal after the reaction. Strikingly, evidence of complement activation was seen in the FFP unit (C4aLE 214%, C3aLE 402%, C5b-9 213%) but not in subsequent samples from the donor. Conclusion: These studies document a TRALI reaction with symptoms expressed during the administration of FFP. One unit exhibited HLA Class I and II antibodies, the latter of which bound to the recipient’s cells. Priming activity was seen with plasma from the implicated unit, not in subsequent samples from the donor. Laboratory studies document activation of complement in the FFP infused but not donor samples. Plasma from the recipient at the time of the reaction also exhibit activation of complement which became normal after the TRALI resolved. Infusion of the FFP with activated complement capable of priming neutrophils may have induced pulmonary leukostasis and TRALI quite distinct from any subsequent effect of antibodies. Although the cause of FFP complement activation is not defined, these results suggest alternative mechanisms involving complement may be responsible for HLA antibody-associated TRALI.

AbstractPolyhydroxyalkanoate synthase, PhaC, is a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of PHA, a type of bioplastics with huge potential to replace conventional petroleum-based plastics. While two PhaC structures have been determined recently, the exact mechanism remains unclear partly due to the absence of a tunnel for product passage. The PhaC fromAquitaleasp. USM4, PhaCAq, was characterised and showed aKmof 394 µM and akcatof 476.4 s−1on the 3HB-CoA substrate. A model based on the structure of the closely related PhaC fromCupriavidus necator, PhaCCnrevealed a three-branched tunnel at the dimeric interface. Two of the branches open to the solvent and serve as the putative routes for substrate entrance and product exit, while the third branch is elongated in a PhaC1 model fromPseudomonas aeruginosa, indicating a function of accommodating the hydroxyalkanoate (HA) moiety of the HA-CoA substrate. Docking of the two tetrahedral intermediates formed during catalysis suggests a PHA elongation mechanism that requires the HA moiety of the ligand to rotate ~180°. Both classes I and II PhaCs share a common mechanism for polymer elongation, and substrate specificity is determined in part by a bulky Phe/Tyr/Trp residue in the third branch in class I, which is conserved as Ala in class II to create room for longer substrates. The PhaCAqmodel provides fresh insights into a general PhaC mechanism, pinpointing key residues for potential engineering of PhaCs with desirable characteristics.
