Purpose: of the article is to study the basic principles of higher education and their impact on the formation of a socially active position of universities and their involvement in achieving sustainable development goals on the scale of global humanity. Methods: is based on the application of systemic and institutional approaches to the study of the role of higher education in solving the problems of society, as well as a group of methods of scientifc cognition: dialectical and retrospective, induction and deduction, comparative analysis, the method of rating assessment and others. Results: the essence of the fundamental principles of higher education – academic freedom and academic responsibility, which form the value basis of classical education in its historical period of development, is revealed. In modern conditions, these principles are increasingly reflected in the activities of universities related to their key role in solving economic, social and environmental problems. More and more often universities declare their social responsibility and prove it by the example of their decisions in the conditions of social crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic isconsidered one of the crisis situations, and the measures taken by the university leadership to support the teaching staff and its student audience are a kind of indicator of social responsibility. The range of tasks in which the higher school is involved is quite wide. It covers problems of a global nature, one of which is the search for ways of sustainable development of mankind: universities take responsibility for achieving the selected Sustainable Development Goals and report to society for the effectiveness of this area of their activities. Conclusions and Relevance: the implementation by universities of socially responsible behavior towards their internal stakeholders (teachers, students, employees), integration into solving vital problems of society, as well as involvement in achieving Sustainable Development Goals clearly demonstrate the transformation of their mission. Universities enter into an active dialogue with society to solve problems at different levels of economic systems, making efforts to combine the spheres of knowledge production, scientifc research expected by society, the transformation of knowledge and scientifc results into practice through the initiation of new directions and activities, technological transformation of the scientifc and educational space, diversifcation of channels of interaction with society

The COVID-19 pandemic, with its induced lockdowns, significantly changed the way the educational act was performed. Using both technological references in phenomenology and features on the relationship between performer and audience, encountered in social dramaturgy, this chapter follows the valences brought by the change in education in the online environment. Based on an exploratory approach made through discourse analysis with seven Romanian professors and 20 Romanian students, two major discursive repertoires can be identified: on the one hand, the one regarding the return to face-to-face courses and, on the other hand, the discourse on maintaining online courses. The discourse regarding the return to classical education is supported by all the interviewed teachers but also by the students who had connectivity problems during the pandemic. The favorable discourse for online classes was supported by most students, especially for temporal and financial reasons. This exploratory pattern confirms that even such choices have a socio-economic character, not necessarily an individual one.

The Crown’s dependence upon the gentry to govern the provinces grew during the sixteenth century and education and family connections became the key routes to public service. Chapter 1 explores Herbert’s birth, upbringing, and educational background and their long-term impact upon his character, public career, and private life. It considers the ambitions of his parents for their first-born son and the role played by his mother and Newport grandmother in shaping the early development of his elite masculine values, commitment to the preservation of family honour, and Protestant beliefs and practice. It examines Herbert’s enthusiasm for study, his classical education under the supervision of private tutors, and his experience of university education and socialization in late-Tudor Oxford. It probes the repercussions of his father’s untimely death, the arrangements for his wardship, his acceptance at age fifteen of an ambitious but ultimately unhappy marriage to an older Herbert heiress, and the family’s relocation to London.

STEM education is one of the important directions of educational reform of the XXI century. The article focuses on modern initiatives that are made in the field of STEM learning and require the development of a model of education reform that responds modern needs of society. It is noted that the proposed educational scenario confirms the hypothesis underlying this study, namely, the need to reform the existing model of educational staff training in the direction from classical education to innovative STEM education. It is substantiated that the issues of STEM education are not only issues and problems in the field of natural and mathematical sciences, engineering, advanced technologies, but also, first of all, educational policy, methodology, management and organization of activities. It is confirmed that STEM education is best implemented through a combination of its different levels: formal, non-formal, informal. The article proposes mechanisms of reforming pedagogical education for the introduction of STEM education at the Pedagogical University with aim of the training of educators of the new formation and the main components of this model. The model of pedagogical staff training includes: creation of scientific and research STEM centre, educational policy (conceptual and methodological developments of education reform model in STEM direction), increase of communication intensity on STEM education topic, promotion of STEM education ideas among the general public, increase of educators’ qualifications and practitioners involved in education. A study was conducted to test this model in practice during 2016-2020. STEM-education in Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University (TNPU) was implemented taking into account the updating of the content of educational and professional programs in accordance with the requirements of the labour market, personal approach, formation of competencies and skills in the field of advanced technologies. It is established that the main indicators of the results of STEM education implementation at the university are: active participation of pupils, students, teachers in various forms of STEM training in the STEM centre of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of TNPU, growing interest in STEM projects and STEM practices with help of excursions, competitions, festivals, science picnics.

Distance education is becoming in demand in many universities in the country. At the beginning of 2020, an epidemiological situation arose in Russia and the world, which showed that distance learning is the safest way to get an education. But not all Russian universities were ready to quickly switch to distance learning. This led to some difficulties: the load increased on all actors of the educational process, the technical problems of the university and students became actualized, there was a need for additional time for adaptation of students, teachers, and university administration. As a result, the level of satisfaction with the learning process has changed. The purpose of this publication is to characterize the features of the organization of distance learning and identify its future prospects (using the example of Perm State National Research University). The empirical base of the study is materials of a survey of university students about their satisfaction with online learning. The authors assess three areas: 1) the level of material and technical equipment of students; 2) changes that have occurred in the organization of training (workload, time for completing assignments, mastering educational material, academic performance); 3) prospects of distance learning (limitations and reasons for their occurrence, merits). In practical terms, the study can clarify the need to expand distance learning in all universities in the country. Distance learning can become an effective alternative to classical education if state authorities and local governments finance distance learning, if universities provide trainings on organizing and conducting classes in an online format.

The purpose of the article is to study the types of artistic creativity in modern fine arts, taking into account the specifics of media arts. The methodology is the cultural-semiotic analysis of the forms of manifestation of visualization of modern art culture. The application of a systematic approach allowed us to study semiotic systems that contribute to the comprehensive disclosure of the problem of the semantics of modern forms of visualization. The scientific novelty of the work is to understand the specifics of the new media arts, taking into account their interactivity, network communication, and virtuality. Conclusions. The interaction of visual art forms and interactive technologies is a combination of artistic manifestations with visualization and programming, so, unlike the processes of classical education, this art practice, in addition to the artist, requires group work of specialists in various fields. Artists working in new forms of visual art play the role of "director" of the project, embodying their own artistic ideas in collaboration with other participants. The actualization of the art of new media is manifested primarily through the expansion of artistic creativity and the creation of multimedia projects that combine VR, AR technology, animation, and traditional shaping and drawing. Therefore, modern visual arts are becoming a powerful tool and communicative tool of modern culture. Today, Ukrainian artists are actively using visual images as central elements of visual culture. Since modern cultural communication significantly influences the formation, providing the composition and translation of cultural values, with the help of visual images artists are able to more accurately express the idea of the work, to make it understandable to the maximum number of viewers.

The article is devoted to the role of classical university education in the training of highly qualified, highly competitive teaching staff capable of forming the image of a new school in modern conditions. The achievement of such a complex task is ensured by identifying and implementing the heuristic capabilities of a classical university in the development of pedagogical education. The author associates such opportunities with its fundamentalization, research orientation, advanced character, etc. The purpose of the article is to present the results of a scientific study related to the definition and theoretical justification of possible ways to implement models of teacher education as an optimal “scenario” for training elite teachers in a classical university. Methodology and methods of research. The methodological basis of the research is the philosophical provisions about a person as a subject of his own life activity; the unity and interrelation of processes and phenomena, general and special. The general methodology of the research is represented by a system-synergetic approach that allows us to consider professional and pedagogical training in a classical university as an open developing system in the “school-university-school”continuity relations; a holistic approach as a methodological orientation towards the formation of a holistic personality of a future teacher, as well as the integrity of the system of professional and pedagogical training at a classical university; an individual-personal approach that provides an opportunity to study along an individual educational trajectory. The main research methods were the analysis of scientific literature, theoretical generalization and modeling. The results of the study. As a result of the theoretical and experimental work carried out, it is proved that the quintessence of the heuristic capabilities of the classical university determines the development and implementation of innovative models for the development of pedagogical education. The author gives a description of each model, indicating its features and “contribution” to the training of future teachers in the system of university classical education. In conclusion, it is concluded that the proposed innovative variable models for the development of pedagogical education at a classical university will ensure the success of professional pedagogical training of future teachers, bring it to a fundamentally new level by realizing the valuable potential of a classical university.

Abstract Background In dentistry, the reporting of panoramic radiographs is particularly challenging, as many structures are depicted in one image and pathologies need to be identified completely. To enhance the learning process for these interpretations, the advantages of the increasingly popular education method of mobile learning could be used. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effectiveness of learning to report panoramic radiographs using an application (app) on a mobile device. Methods The existing e-learning programme ‘PantoDict’ was further developed into a mobile app with a new training section. Participants of a dental radiology course were divided into two groups, one of which additionally had the chance to practise reporting panoramic radiographs using the app. A test to assess the knowledge gained was conducted at the end of the semester; the course and the app were also evaluated. Results The group that used the app showed significantly better results in the test than the control group (p < 0.05). Although the app group approved a high satisfaction using the app as an additional supplement to the course, this did not result in a higher overall satisfaction with the course. Further, these students observed that the traditional face-to-face seminar could not be replaced by the app. Conclusion By using the PantoDict app, students were offered better training options for writing reports on panoramic radiographs, which resulted in significantly better test results than the results of the control group. Therefore, the mobile app is a useful supplement to classical education formats within the context of a blended learning approach.
