The goal of this research is to carry out a 3-dimensional finite detail approach evaluation of a composite plate cracked under thermal loading. The results of the mechanical properties of the composite, the orientation angle of the fibers, the geometric form of the plate, the thermal loading and the crack length had been studied to show their influence on the variation of the integral J. It is concluded that the integral J increases with the increase of crack size, temperature variation and reduce in fiber orientation perspective (e). To complete the work a probabilistic analysis was carried out.

Abstract We revisit the relation between the anomalies in four and six dimensions and the Chern-Simons couplings one dimension below. While the dimensional reduction of chiral theories is well-understood, the question which three and five-dimensional theories can come from a general circle reduction, and are hence liftable, is more subtle. We argue that existence of an anomaly cancellation mechanism is a necessary condition for liftability. In addition, the anomaly cancellation and the CS couplings in six and five dimensions respectively determine the central charges of string-like BPS objects that cannot be consistently decoupled from gravity, a.k.a. supergravity strings. Following the completeness conjecture and requiring that their worldsheet theory is unitary imposes bounds on the admissible theories. We argue that for the anomaly-free six-dimensional theories it is more advantageous to study the unitarity constraints obtained after reduction to five dimensions. In general these are slightly more stringent and can be cast in a more geometric form, highly reminiscent of the Kodaira positivity condition (KPC). Indeed, for the F-theoretic models which have an underlying Calabi-Yau threefold these can be directly compared. The unitarity constraints (UC) are in general weaker than KPC, and maybe useful in understanding the consistent models without F-theoretic realisation. We catalogue the cases when UC is more restrictive than KPC, hinting at more refined hidden structure in elliptic Calabi-Yau threefolds with certain singularity structure.

The International Offshore rule (IOR) provided a handicapping system for racing yacht between 1972 and 1994. During this period great advances in both the materials used in construction and designs specifically to the rule, were made. The popular press discussed, at great length, how loopholes in the rules were exploited to gain a favourable rating. This led to the perception that the exploitation of geometric measurements was leading to boats with poor performance characteristics. This paper aims to address this, firstly through an analysis of the geometric parameters and their evolution through the early part of the IOR era. The paper concludes by undertaking a velocity prediction analysis of a series of boats, a technique that was in its infancy at the time these yachts were designed. The analyses show that the geometric parameters did evolve with time, but not necessarily in line with the understanding behind good performance. Penalties in the rule dictated the direction of design. However, the performance analysis did show that judging yachts based on rated characteristics could lead to misinterpretation, but in general, the performance data aligned reasonably well with assumed performance in specific sailing conditions. The velocity prediction analysis also concluded that the performance of yachts between 1972 and 1981 did increase regardless of the geometric form being dictated by the rules.

Quantum-chemical calculation of most important parameters of molecular and electronic structures of tetra-nuclear (pd) metal clusters having Al2M2 composition, where M = Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, or Zn (bond lengths, bond and torsion angles), and HOMO and LUMO of these compounds by means of DFT OPBE/QZVP method, have been carried out. It has been found that, for each of these metal clusters, an existence of rather large amount of structural isomers different substantially in their total energy, occurs. It has been noticed that molecular structures of metal clusters of the given type differ significantly between them in terms of geometric parameters, as well as in geometric form, wherein the most stable modifications of metal clusters considered are similar between themselves in geometric form. In addition, the standard thermodynamic parameters of formation of metal clusters considered here, and namely standard enthalpy ΔfH0(298 K), entropy Sf0(298 K), and Gibbs’ energy ΔfG0(298 K) of formation for these metal clusters, were calculated.

Abstract We construct a Poisson algebra of brane currents from a QP-manifold, and show their Poisson brackets take a universal geometric form. This generalises a result of Alekseev and Strobl on string currents and generalised geometry to include branes with worldvolume gauge fields, such as the D3 and M5. Our result yields a universal expression for the ’t Hooft anomaly that afflicts isometries in the presence of fluxes. We determine the current algebra in terms of (exceptional) generalised geometry, and show that the tensor hierarchy gives rise to a brane current hierarchy. Exceptional complex structures produce pairs of anomaly-free current subalgebras on the M5-brane worldvolume.

In his search for the meaning of life, Tolstoy turned to Spinoza’s rationalist teaching about freedom, reason, morality, and religious faith. Spinoza created a philosophy where beliefs are in union with deeds, logic unites with ethics, and knowledge joins faith. According to Tolstoy, it is art that makes a synthesis of all the best attempts of the real, true philosophy. I argue that Tolstoy’s artistic method of linkage (stseplenie) was probably borrowed from Spinoza. Inspired by Spinoza’s “theorems of reason,” Tolstoy created his own “axiom of life” and elaborates on the concept of the “power of life” as a core of religious faith. Tolstoy endorsed Spinoza’s rationalistic critique of religion which helped to liberate true faith from the power of superstition and church dogmatics, but he criticised the geometric form in which Spinoza put the truths he discovered.
