Neuronal axons must navigate a mechanically heterogeneous environment to reach their targets, but the biophysical mechanisms coupling mechanosensation, growth, and branching are not fully understood. Here, we show that local changes in membrane tension propagate along axons at approximately 20 μm/s, more than 1000-fold faster than in other non-motile cells. This rapid and long-range mechanical signaling mediates bidirectional competition between axonal branch initiation and growth cone extension. Our data suggest a mechanism by which mechanical cues at one part of a growing axon can affect growth dynamics remotely.

Abstract. An approach to the assessment of a heterogeneous environment in accordance with the proposed concept of a heterogeneous environment is described. The classification of industrial heterogeneous media by technological feature is proposed. The processes described by the proposed approach include the process of metal cutting, surface plastic deformation, chemical-thermal treatment, formation of coatings, welding, most of the processes that change the level and gradient of hardness and internal stresses in the surface layer of the material. Application of the proposed principles makes it possible to find new directions in the study of such processes.

Fog computing and Edge computing are few of the latest technologies which are offered as solution to challenges faced in Cloud Computing. Instead of offloading of all the tasks to centralized cloud servers, some of the tasks can be scheduled at intermediate Fog servers or Edge devices. Though this solves most of the problems faced in cloud but also encounter other traditional problems due to resource-related constraints like load balancing, scheduling, etc. In order to address task scheduling and load balancing in Cloud-fog-edge collaboration among servers, we have proposed an improved version of min-min algorithm for workflow scheduling which considers cost, makespan, energy and load balancing in heterogeneous environment. This algorithm is implemented and tested in different offloading scenarios- Cloud only, Fog only, Cloud-fog and Cloud-Fog-Edge collaboration. This approach performed better and the result gives minimum makespan, less energy consumption along with load balancing and marginally less cost when compared to min-min and ELBMM algorithms

In this paper, we aim to establish the threshold-type dynamics of a diffusive herpes model that assumes a fixed relapse period and nonlinear recovery rate. It turns out that when considering diseases with a fixed relapse period, the diffusion of recovered individuals will lead to nonlocal recovery term. We characterize the basic reproduction number, ℜ 0 , for the model through the next generation operator approach. Moreover, in a homogeneous case, we calculate the ℜ 0 explicitly. By utilizing the principal eigenvalue of the associated eigenvalue problem or equivalently by ℜ 0 , we establish the threshold-type dynamics of the model in the sense that the herpes is either extinct or close to the epidemic value. Numerical simulations are performed to verify the theoretical results and the effects of the spatial heterogeneity on disease transmission.

The paper discusses hardware and software for creating a unified software and hardware platform for a situation center as a heterogeneous environment - an environment whose computing nodes are controlled by incompatible software that supports the possibility of organizing interaction. The method of organizing the interaction of the subsystems of the situation center through a universal list of requests is also considered.

Aircraft radar has special function which is ranging from aircraft to ground of antenna boresight. Because ranging information is used to calibrate altitude of aircraft or to drop a conventional bomb, the measuring have to be precise and robust. Therefore, we propose a simple and efficient method using monopulse radar for ground ranging. Proposed method calculates balancing weight according to linearity of monopulse ratio and mixes two ranging measurements in proportional to the weight. By exploiting balancing weight, radar is able to react to various environment as monopulse ratio contains characteristics of clutter environment. As a result, robust ranging information can be achieved. We use DEM(Digital Elevation Model) in order to simulate heterogeneous environment. In experimental result, it is shown that proposed method shows better accuracy and precision in any environment.
