This paper presents a case study in the creation and utilization of an Internet of Things (IoT) device. An Arduino-based gas leak detector is utilized for the demonstration of IoT technologies and their advantages. The gas leak detection device focuses on detection of Liquified Petroleum gas. Upon detection of a leak, the device can communicate over the internet using cellular networks, thus helping to alleviate Wi-Fi and ethernet failure issues such as loss of power in a natural disaster. Because of the device’s resilience, it can help ensure the user is notified of the emergency as soon as possible. This automated gas leak monitoring system is reliable and will not be put out of action in a disaster or emergency situation.

The very rapid development of technology has a significant impact on human life today. The aids of facilitating human work are starting to be in great demand. Automation of tools is thought to shorten the time, be more accessible and be faster. Smart Home is one's technologies applications needed today. This study aims to designs an IoT-based innovative home prototype. The resulting intelligent home prototype uses the DHT11 sensor at a room temperature detector, the MQ-2 the sensor as a gas leak detector, an ultrasonic sensor as the object detector, the MC38 magnet sensor as door security, a relay as ON or OFF the lamp switch, buzzer as an alarm, and using a microcontroller. A nodemcu with a Wi-Fi module ESP8266 controlled via Blynk App. Research and Development (R & D) method were research method used. It is hoped that the IoT-based Smart Home technology will be provided convenience to its users in everyday life.

Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a household need which is currently the most widely used by the community as a fuel other than petroleum. The use of LPG cylinders, which increases every year, is directly proportional to the increased risk of fire caused by gas leaks. Many LPG cylinders circulating in the community today do not use good safety. Therefore, a tool is needed to detect LPG leaks so that people can find out more quickly when there is a gas leak. This system is designed using a microcontroller-based MQ-2 sensor. The MQ-2 sensor functions as a gas leak detector, the buzzer serves as a warning in the event of a gas leak and the SIM800L will send an SMS via the user's smartphone. The MQ-2 sensor can detect gas leaks at a distance of 2 meters in a closed room without ventilation. The MQ-2 gas sensor detects gas leaks using a distance that can be influenced by room temperature and the sensitivity of the MQ-2 sensor, so that the MQ-2 sensor produces a non-permanent time even though it is at the same distance. The buzzer sounds when the MQ-2 sensor detects a gas leak. SIM800L can send SMS notifications to smartphones of LPG cylinder owners when the MQ-2 sensor detects a gas leak, but the time it takes to send an SMS is not fixed because it is influenced by whether the network used by the simcard on the smartphone or the simcard on the SIM800L is good or not.

LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) has become the fuel for cooking for most households in Indonesia. The use of LPG for cooking requires high level of caution, due to the danger that may arise from gas leakage. If the molecules of flammable LPG gas are present in the air at a certain concentration and there is a triggerring factor in the form of flame or sparks, explosion and fire may occur. To prevent disasters caused by a LPG gas leakage, the author proposed an Arduino-based LPG gas leak detector (GLD). The GLD is equipped with a MQ-2 gas sensor, capable of measuring the LPG concentration in air in units of parts per million (ppm). Based on the measurement result, the GLD provides an early warning of LPG leakage through 3 condition levels: Normal, Alert, and Danger. Each condition level is characterized by the activation of LED indicators, a miniature air circulation fan , and a buzzer. Alert warning is released when the sensor reads more than 400 ppm (2.05% of LPG Lower Explosive Level). Danger warning is given at 800 ppm (4.10% of LPG Lower Explosive Level) or higher reading. An HC-06 Bluetooth module creates a wireless connection between the GLD and a smartphone. Through an application created on Blynk platform, the smartphone can monitor the LPG concentration at a distance of 10 m from the GLD. The GLD is tested and succeeded to detect gases coming from an LPG cylinder and from a gas lighter. The GLD also runs perfectly for the designed early warning scheme.

The paper presents the results of operational testing of two acoustic components of research equipment «Bar» (a leak detector and ultrasound analyzer) onboard the ISS Russian segment. It was found that the ultrasonic (US) background noise interferes in leak search; besides, it exceeds dramatically the adopted noise level constraint thus impacting crew health and efficiency, and oral communication. The narrow-band noise spectra were measured and the expressed tone property of the US noise was demonstrated. The authors make the point that the present noise level constraints for space habitats do not take into account all realities of the life of cosmonauts and lack a solid medical and acoustic background.
