: Depression, a well know mental disorder has global prevalence, nearly affecting 17% of population. Due to various limitations of the currently available drugs, people have been adopting traditional herbal medicines to alleviate the symptoms of depression. It is notable to mention that natural products, their derivatives, and their analogs are the main source for new drug candidates in depression. The mechanisms include interplay with γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors, serotonergic, dopaminergic noradrenergic systems, and elevation of BDNF levels. The focus of this review is to revisit the role of signalling molecules in depression and highlight the use of plant-derived natural compounds to counter depression in the CNS.

The addition of traces of Au(III) chloride with Ce(IV) sulphate (catalyst: substrate ratio (1: 80 to 1: 300)) and in case of  Cu(II) sulphate with Ce(IV) sulphate(catalyst: substrate ratio (1: 60 to 1: 250)) in solution phase under microwave irradiation resulted in good to excellent yields of corresponding to phenol, quinone and carbonyl compounds. In case of  oxidation of anthracene, phenanthrene, naphthalene, cyclohexane and toluene dissolved in acetic acid to give 95.02 %, 85.25%, 34.68%, 40.94%, and 56.54% yields in case of gold catalyst and 93.5%, 83.4%, 24.68%, 38.25% and 47.11% yields in case of copper as a catalyst.  Phenanthrene was oxidized in 9-Fluorenone instead of phenanthraquinone to get the benzylic rearrangement.

The aim of this research was to identify chemical compounds in cat eye dammar. The method included functional groups characterizationby infrared spectrophotometer and identification using Pyrolisis-GC/MS. Infrared spectra of crude sample showed that there were somefunctional groups such as alkyl, carbonyl, vinyl, and hydroxyl. Identification by Pyrolisis-GC/MS showed that dammar consisted of at least67 compounds. This natural gum components could be categorized into 4 groups, i.e. tetra cyclic hydrocarbon (30 compounds, 49.57%),penta cyclic (3 compounds, 2.56%), C 15 compounds (11 compounds, 17.09%), and other group (23 compounds, 18.26%). According to thePy-GC/MS data, brassicasterol is the highest relative concentration in dammar, i.e. 20%.
