The current study aimed to explore the roles of traditional family values (specifically, filial piety and traditional gender stereotypes), minority stress, and parenting motivation in parenting desire among Chinese lesbian women and gay men. 1042 childless lesbian women and gay men between the ages of 18 and 46 were recruited to respond to an online survey, which covered measures assessing parenting desire, traditional family values, minority stress, and parenting motivation. The results indicated that traditional family values, minority stress, and parenting motivation each showed positive correlations with parenting desire. Additionally, minority stress alone mediated the relationship between filial piety/traditional gender stereotypes and parenting desire. However, minority stress was not significantly associated with parenting desire when controlling for parenting motivation. Parenting motivation mediated the associations between filial piety/traditional gender stereotypes, and parenting desire controlling for minority stress. The findings indicated that traditional family values, minority stress, and parenting motivation can be considered predictors of the desire to become a parent among Chinese lesbian women and gay men.

The article deals with the problem that arose in the collision of globalisation processes in economics, finance, politics and traditional social institutions, primarily the family. The authors come to the conclusion that the issue of preserving traditional family values, which are the basis and condition for existence and successful development for all peoples living in Russia, acquires a special role. The greatest public resonance is the issue of traditional and “non-traditional” concepts of the family, which actualises the problem of legal protection of traditional family values in Russia. The 2020 constitutional amendments are analysed.

The article provides a historical, civilizational, intersectoral analysis of traditional family values, determines the need for their consolidation and interpretation, their place in legislation and law enforcement practice. Based on the study of the different perceptions of traditional family values by the sciences of society, it has been established that both traditional family values affect the consolidation of mandatory rules of behavior in the norms of law and trends in the activities of law enforcement agencies, and the norms of law contribute to the emergence of new family values. The necessity of defining traditional family values for the uniform application of legal norms in resolving disputes on recognizing a marriage as invalid, determining the place of residence of children, etc. and the possibility of recognizing and enforcing decisions of foreign courts and other authorities in relation to Russian citizens about actions and events taking place in Russia has been proved. the territory of the Russian Federation. It is concluded that the content of the norms of the Constitution of the Russian Federation contains values not only of today, but also of the future, the interpretation of which can be made based on the social, moral and spiritual needs of society.

Practices of ‘intentional multiple parenthood’, by which more than two parents agree to conceive and raise children together, have gained increased news coverage in recent years. This paper explores written press articles concerning intentional multiple parenthood in Belgium and the Netherlands. Through a discourse analysis of press articles, the paper challenges the gendered and dyadic concept of parenthood as an understandable given. Newly developed concepts within the ‘traditional’ framework of parenthood are explicitly presented as ‘new’ and ‘revolutionary’ within the public discourse, yet their existence remains dependent on mainstream conceptual usage and the dominant social relations underpinning them. Furthermore, it has been found that press articles on the topic of multiple parenthood frequently use familiar concepts (such as traditional family values of love and commitment) and existing terminology (such as ‘father’, ‘mother’, ‘donor’) to describe the non-mainstream practice of multiple parenthood despite the lack of recognition for this practice in the legal realm.

Evangelical Protestant and Jewish ultra-Orthodox communities are two high-tension religious groups that share an emphasis on traditional family values. Their leaders must communicate the virtues of religious marriage to “curious outsiders” while supporting “distressed insiders” whose marriages have become unstable. This article analyzes thirty marital guidebooks, fifteen ultra-Orthodox, and fifteen evangelical Protestant to probe their strategies. A key finding is the abundance of marriage theologies in the guidebooks, that is, schemas that endeavor to make sense of marriage and its vicissitudes by explicating God’s role and expectations for the couple. Five shared and four denomination-specific marriage theologies are identified and discussed.
