Universities are the best places to gather knowledge and innovation, but the basis of technological development lies in talented R&D personnel who provide services to enterprise R&D activities, research institutions, and universities. Universities also gather many elites who cultivate talent for the country. However, universities do not have adequate technology transfer experience and do not network in industrial circles, which results in a huge gap between the concept and the practical result. This research determined the critical success factors and explored the causal relationships influencing the technology transfer from universities. We found that the main impact of the key factors was the technology market dimension. University technology transfer activities had to be classified as top priority. Technology industrial applicability was the main key evaluation factor, along with inventor attitude. In the organizational culture dimension, the attitude and ability of top management were the main evaluation factors. We attempted to draw upon our analysis results to make recommendations related to technology transfer to assist universities in successfully transferring their research results.

This paper examines the effect of social trust on university technology transfer. A large sample of Chinese universities from the 2007–2017 period was used. We find that social trust facilitates university technology transfer. The finding remain valid after a series of robustness. The mechanism test shows that social trust facilitates university technology transfer by improving the level of university-industry cooperative innovation. Our study suggests that social trust is an important factor that affects university technology transfer.

Background: Malaysians are less likely to be highly exposed of the information regarding genetic tests as compared to citizens of developed countries in the world. In addition to that, little is known about the level of knowledge and awareness of the genetic testing for risk of breast cancer detection among the students in University Technology Mara (UiTM). Materials and methods: A cross-sectional with correlational design study using a self-administered questionnaire was conducted among medical and non-medical undergraduate students of University Technology Mara (UiTM). The population from which the convenience sample gathered were those who fulfilled the inclusion criteria of this study. Results: Three hundred and eighty six (386) respondents were involved in present study, (50.8%) of them were familiar with the existence of the test while the remaining (49.2%) did not know about the genetic tests available for detecting gene mutations. Regards their interest in genetic testing to detect inheritable mutations, (35.8%) of them were definitely interest in the test, (38.3%) of them were probably interest in the test, (20.7%) of them were considering the test and the remaining (5.2%) have no interest in the test at all. About their awareness of the genetic test available for mutations detections, majority of them, (67.9%), agreed to get tested in order to learn of their own risk in getting breast cancer. In terms of their reason to avoid being tested, many of them, (40.7%) mentioned that the main reason is if the result comes out positive for genetic mutations, it will disrupt their daily lives. Conclusion: There were mild level of knowledge and moderate level of awareness about breast cancer genetic tests, but the respondents showed high level of interest towards genetic test available for breast cancer risk detection. Educational materials and programs may increase knowledge and awareness about the genetic test available for detection of inheritable mutations. The effectiveness of the educational strategies shall be tested in the future.

University technology transfer (UTT) has been growing in importance for many decades and is of increasing importance to university leadership, university researchers, research funding agencies, and government policy makers. It is of interest to academic researchers in the fields of business management, economics, innovation, geography, and public policy. UTT is a subset of the broader field of technology transfer, and it involves the transfer of university research results from the university to business so that the business can invest in the development of products and services that benefit society. The research results can arise from any academic discipline, are not limited to a particular definition of technology, and can be transferred to existing and new for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. The core activity involves licensing patent applications and other intellectual property to existing companies and establishing new companies that raise investment finance, to develop the early-stage research outputs into new products and services. In recent decades, research universities have set up technology transfer offices (TTOs) to manage their UTT activities. TTOs adopt a project management approach to supporting university researchers who wish to transfer the results of their research to business. Project stages include identifying, evaluating, protecting, marketing, deal making, and post-deal management. TTOs are also involved in other activities, beyond patenting, licensing, and entrepreneurship, which generate positive impact on society. Measuring and evaluating UTT is a topic of continuing debate, with an early focus on activity metrics developing into a more sophisticated assessment of the impact of university research outputs on society. Current issues in UTT involve understanding the position of UTT in the broader area of research impact, as well as funding and organization models for UTT within a university. The COVID-19 global crisis is highlighting the importance of university research and its transfer out to organizations that develop and deliver products and services that benefit society. It has further emphasized the importance of UTT as an activity where much more has to be researched and understood in order to maximize the benefits for society of all the activities performed by universities.
