AbstractWe study the Standard Model (SM) in Weyl conformal geometry. This embedding is truly minimal with no new fields beyond the SM spectrum and Weyl geometry. The action inherits a gauged scale symmetry D(1) (known as Weyl gauge symmetry) from the underlying geometry. The associated Weyl quadratic gravity undergoes spontaneous breaking of D(1) by a geometric Stueckelberg mechanism in which the Weyl gauge field ($$\omega _\mu $$ ω μ ) acquires mass by “absorbing” the spin-zero mode of the $${\tilde{R}}^2$$ R ~ 2 term in the action. This mode also generates the Planck scale and the cosmological constant. The Einstein-Proca action emerges in the broken phase. In the presence of the SM, this mechanism receives corrections (from the Higgs) and it can induce electroweak (EW) symmetry breaking. The EW scale is proportional to the vev of the Stueckelberg field. The Higgs field ($$\sigma $$ σ ) has direct couplings to the Weyl gauge field ($$\sigma ^2\omega _\mu \omega ^\mu $$ σ 2 ω μ ω μ ). The SM fermions only acquire such couplings for non-vanishing kinetic mixing of the gauge fields of $$D(1)\times U(1)_Y$$ D ( 1 ) × U ( 1 ) Y . If this mixing is present, part of the mass of Z boson is not due to the usual Higgs mechanism, but to its mixing with massive $$\omega _\mu $$ ω μ . Precision measurements of Z mass then set lower bounds on the mass of $$\omega _\mu $$ ω μ which can be light (few TeV). In the early Universe the Higgs field can have a geometric origin, by Weyl vector fusion, and the Higgs potential can drive inflation. The dependence of the tensor-to-scalar ratio r on the spectral index $$n_s$$ n s is similar to that in Starobinsky inflation but mildly shifted to lower r by the Higgs non-minimal coupling to Weyl geometry.

AbstractEinstein–Weyl geometry is a triple $$({\mathbb {D}},g,\omega )$$ ( D , g , ω ) where $${\mathbb {D}}$$ D is a symmetric connection, [g] is a conformal structure and $$\omega $$ ω is a covector such that $$\bullet $$ ∙ connection $${\mathbb {D}}$$ D preserves the conformal class [g], that is, $${\mathbb {D}}g=\omega g$$ D g = ω g ; $$\bullet $$ ∙ trace-free part of the symmetrised Ricci tensor of $${\mathbb {D}}$$ D vanishes. Three-dimensional Einstein–Weyl structures naturally arise on solutions of second-order dispersionless integrable PDEs in 3D. In this context, [g] coincides with the characteristic conformal structure and is therefore uniquely determined by the equation. On the contrary, covector $$\omega $$ ω is a somewhat more mysterious object, recovered from the Einstein–Weyl conditions. We demonstrate that, for generic second-order PDEs (for instance, for all equations not of Monge–Ampère type), the covector $$\omega $$ ω is also expressible in terms of the equation, thus providing an efficient ‘dispersionless integrability test’. The knowledge of g and $$\omega $$ ω provides a dispersionless Lax pair by an explicit formula which is apparently new. Some partial classification results of PDEs with Einstein–Weyl characteristic conformal structure are obtained. A rigidity conjecture is proposed according to which for any generic second-order PDE with Einstein–Weyl property, all dependence on the 1-jet variables can be eliminated via a suitable contact transformation.

Abstract We investigated the possibility of construction the homogeneous and isotropic cosmological solutions in Weyl geometry. We derived the self-consistency condition which ensures the conformal invariance of the complete set of equations of motion. There is the special gauge in choosing the conformal factor when the Weyl vector equals zero. In this gauge we found new vacuum cosmological solutions absent in General Relativity. Also, we found new solution in Weyl geometry for the radiation dominated universe with the cosmological term, corresponding to the constant curvature scalar in our special gauge. Possible relation of our results to the understanding both dark matter and dark energy is discussed.

The Weyl geometry promises potential applications in gravity and quantum mechanics. We study the relationships between the Weyl geometry, quantum entropy and quantum entanglement based on the Weyl geometry endowing the Euclidean metric. We give the formulation of the Weyl Ricci curvature and Weyl scalar curvature in the n-dimensional system. The Weyl scalar field plays a bridge role to connect the Weyl scalar curvature, quantum potential and quantum entanglement. We also give the Einstein–Weyl tensor and the generalized field equation in 3D vacuum case, which reveals the relationship between Weyl geometry and quantum potential. Particularly, we find that the correspondence between the Weyl scalar curvature and quantum potential is dimension-dependent and works only for the 3D space, which reveals a clue to quantize gravity and an understanding why our space must be 3D if quantum gravity is compatible with quantum mechanics. We analyze numerically a typical example of two orthogonal oscillators to reveal the relationships between the Weyl scalar curvature, quantum potential and quantum entanglement based on this formulation. We find that the Weyl scalar curvature shows a negative dip peak for separate state but becomes a positive peak for the entangled state near original point region, which can be regarded as a geometric signal to detect quantum entanglement.

In this paper, conformal invariant gravitation, based on Weyl geometry, is considered. In addition to the gravitational and matter action integrals, the interaction between the Weyl vector (entered in Weyl geometry) and the vector, representing the world line of the independent observer, are introduced. It is shown that the very existence of such an interaction selects the exponentially growing scale factor solutions among the cosmological vacua.

AbstractWe consider the geodesic deviation equation, describing the relative accelerations of nearby particles, and the Raychaudhuri equation, giving the evolution of the kinematical quantities associated with deformations (expansion, shear and rotation) in the Weyl-type f(Q, T) gravity, in which the non-metricity Q is represented in the standard Weyl form, fully determined by the Weyl vector, while T represents the trace of the matter energy–momentum tensor. The effects of the Weyl geometry and of the extra force induced by the non-metricity–matter coupling are explicitly taken into account. The Newtonian limit of the theory is investigated, and the generalized Poisson equation, containing correction terms coming from the Weyl geometry, and from the geometry matter coupling, is derived. As a physical application of the geodesic deviation equation the modifications of the tidal forces, due to the non-metricity–matter coupling, are obtained in the weak-field approximation. The tidal motion of test particles is directly influenced by the gradients of the extra force, and of the Weyl vector. As a concrete astrophysical example we obtain the expression of the Roche limit (the orbital distance at which a satellite begins to be tidally torn apart by the body it orbits) in the Weyl-type f(Q, T) gravity.
