This paper developed and established unprecedented global results on the structure of determining matrices of generic double time-delay linear autonomous functional differential control systems, with a view to obtaining the controllability matrix associated with the rank condition for the Euclidean controllability of the system. The computational process and implementation of the controllability matrix were demonstrated on the MATLAB platform to determine the controllability disposition of a small-problem instance. Finally, the work examined the computing complexity of the determining matrices.

We study convex empirical risk minimization for high-dimensional inference in binary linear classification under both discriminative binary linear models, as well as generative Gaussian-mixture models. Our first result sharply predicts the statistical performance of such estimators in the proportional asymptotic regime under isotropic Gaussian features. Importantly, the predictions hold for a wide class of convex loss functions, which we exploit to prove bounds on the best achievable performance. Notably, we show that the proposed bounds are tight for popular binary models (such as signed and logistic) and for the Gaussian-mixture model by constructing appropriate loss functions that achieve it. Our numerical simulations suggest that the theory is accurate even for relatively small problem dimensions and that it enjoys a certain universality property.

Abstract: The Triview Model – Three Views of a Problem Everyone knows that the top levels of academia are still often imbalanced, with more men than women. This is commonly described as an absence of women, or a «leaky pipeline» towards the top. But how is this imbalance understood and reflected upon? And what does the understanding of the problem of gender imbalance mean for the overall culture of the organization? This chapter looks at how gender and gendered differences are described and discussed at the University of Oslo’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, extending the social analysis (chapter 7) and the structural analysis (chapter 8) in the direction of discourse and cultural analysis, based on the very concrete main issue of the FRONT project: the top level imbalance. Why is it there? What do faculty staff and students say, about this? Three typical views appear in the FRONT material, and are presented and discussed: first, that the gender imbalance is not a problem, or only a small problem; second, that it is a problem, but mainly a women’s problem, and third, that it is a systemic problem. The chapter includes a historical profile of how these three views have developed and a discussion of how they work to hinder or help gender equality change in the organization.

The campaign to divest the endowment of McGill University from fossil fuel has had amazing success in using scientific knowledge to inspire democratic action. Organizations collectively representing all students and academic staff, and most non-academic staff, have voted overwhelmingly in favor of divestment. There is one small problem, however. Unlike Oxford or Cambridge, where a majority vote among all faculty would be the final word about any and all university policy, McGill suffers rule by a plutocratic Board of Governors. This impairment parallels and connects with the stranglehold the fossil fuel industry has on Canadian environmental policy.

Text compression is one of the most significant research fields, and various algorithms for text compression have already been developed. This is a significant issue, as the use of internet bandwidth is considerably increasing. This article proposes a Burrows–Wheeler transform and pattern matching-based lossless text compression algorithm that uses Huffman coding in order to achieve an excellent compression ratio. In this article, we introduce an algorithm with two keys that are used in order to reduce more frequently repeated characters after the Burrows–Wheeler transform. We then find patterns of a certain length from the reduced text and apply Huffman encoding. We compare our proposed technique with state-of-the-art text compression algorithms. Finally, we conclude that the proposed technique demonstrates a gain in compression ratio when compared to other compression techniques. A small problem with our proposed method is that it does not work very well for symmetric communications like Brotli.

131 Background: In primary treatment of localised prostate cancer, minimally invasive ablative therapies such as HIFU aim to achieve cancer control whilst offering a potentially favourable toxicity profile. At 5 years median follow up, 12% of patients treated with focal HIFU require salvage therapy. PROMS using Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite for Clinical Practice (EPIC‐CP) provide a validated and clinically relevant tool to assess and quantify side effects from pelvic radiotherapy. There is limited data on late toxicity using PROMs with salvage radiotherapy in this setting. Methods: Retrospective analysis from prospectively collected data of 28 patients who received salvage radiotherapy at our institution 2010-2018 was performed. Late bowel and urinary toxicity measured by EPIC-CP is reported. Results: Gleason score at diagnosis: 3+3 4/28; 3+4 22/28; 4+3 2/28. HIFU treatment received: focal: 9/28; whole gland: 6/28; focal and redo focal: 7/28; focal and redo whole gland: 1/28; whole gland and redo: 5/28. All patients had mpMRI and biopsy proven recurrence with median PSA 6.6 ng/ml (0.57- 30.89). Median age at radiation was 67 years (55-80). Patients received 74 Gy to the prostate and 4 patients received additional pelvic lymph node irradiation. Three men received conformal radiotherapy (multiphase technique) and 25 arcing intensity modulated radiotherapy with hormone therapy as per risk stratification. Cumulative incidence of toxicity is reported at median follow-up of 43 months (7-99). Overall urinary function: no problem 8/28; very small problem 4/28; small problem 7/28; moderate problem 5/28; big problem 4/28 Urinary Incontinence Symptom Score: 2.5/12 (0-12) Urinary Irritation /Obstructive Symptom Score: 3.1/12 (0-12) Bowel Symptom Score: 3.5/12 (0-11) Biochemical relapse has occurred in 2/28 patients. Conclusions: Functional and oncological outcomes for a greater number of patients treated with minimally invasive ablative therapies followed by salvage radiation are required, however this data suggests radiation is a well-tolerated and effective salvage option following primary HIFU.
