Near-infrared (NIR) photodetectors have interesting roles in optical fiber communications and biomedical applications. Conventional NIR photodetectors have been realized using InGaAs and Ge, of which the cut-off wavelengths exceed 1500 nm. Si-based photodetectors exhibit limited external quantum efficiency at wavelengths longer than 1000 nm. By synthesizing a CuInSe2 compound on a glass substrate, photodetectors that can detect optical wavelengths longer than 1100 nm have been realized in this study. The bandgap energies of the CuInSe2 thin films were tuned by varying the Cu/In ratio from 1.02 to 0.87. The longest cut-off wavelength (1309 nm) was obtained from a CuInSe2 thin film having a Cu/In ratio of 0.87. The responsivity of the photodiode was measured under the illumination of a 1064 nm laser light. The photo responses exhibited linear response up to 2.33 mW optical illumination and a responsivity of 0.60 A/W at −0.4 V.

Abstract The THz spectrum (spanning from 0.3 THz to 30 THz) offers the potential of a plethora of applications, ranging from the imaging through non transparent media to wireless-over-fiber communications and THz-photonics. The latter framework would greatly benefit from the development of optical-to-THz wavelength converters. Exploiting Difference Frequency Generation in a nonlinear all dielectric nanoantenna, we propose a compact solution to this problem. By means of a near-Infrared pump beam (at ω1), the information signal in the optical domain (at ω2) is converted to the THz band (at ω3 = ω2 − ω1). The approach is completely transparent with respect to the modulation format, and can be easily integrated in a metasurface platform for simultaneous frequency and spatial moulding of THz beams.

Abstract This paper studies Radhakrishnan-Kundu-Laksmannan equation which is used to describe the pulse propagation in optical fiber communications. By using improved modified extended tanh-function method various types of solutions are extracted such as bright solitons, singular solitons, singular periodic wave solutions, Jacobi elliptic solutions, periodic wave solutions and Weierstrass elliptic doubly periodic solutions. Moreover, some of the obtained solutions are represented graphically.

Abstract Based on the Huygens–Fresnel integral, the propagation equation for a vortex Hermite-cosh-Gaussian beams (vHChGB) in gradient-index medium (GIM) is derived. From the obtained expression, the evolution of the intensity and the phase distributions of a vHChGB through a GIM are numerically demonstrated as a function of the gradient-index parameter β under the change of incident beam parameters. The results show that the characteristics of the output beam evolve periodically versus the propagation distance, and the period of evolution slows down when β is increased. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the self-repeating properties of the intensity pattern and the phase distribution for the propagated vHChGB are altered by the incident beam parameters. The results obtained may be beneficial for applications in fiber communications and beam shaping.
