This Element examines eighteenth-century manuscript forms, their functions in the literary landscape of their time, and the challenges and practices of manuscript study today. Drawing on both literary studies and book history, Levy and Schellenberg offer a guide to the principal forms of literary activity carried out in handwritten manuscripts produced in the first era of print dominance, 1730-1820. After an opening survey of sociable literary culture and its manuscript forms, numerous case studies explore what can be learned from three manuscript types: the verse miscellany, the familiar correspondence, and manuscripts of literary works that were printed. A final section considers issues of manuscript remediation up to the present, focusing particularly on digital remediation. The Element concludes with a brief case study of the movement of Phillis Wheatley's poems between manuscript and print. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem inflammatory disorder of uncertain aetiology. There are numerous case reports of sarcoidosis occurring during treatment with biological immunotherapies. Here, we describe the case of a 52-year-old woman with psoriatic arthritis who developed multisystem sarcoidosis while being treated with secukinumab (anti-interleukin-17A) therapy which, to our knowledge, is the first such case. We discuss existing literature and hypothesise that IL-17 blockade may precipitate the development of granulomatous disease.

This chapter describes how President Obama enacted numerous policy changes that gradually moved towards improved relations with Cuba. The Cuban government and economy also underwent transformations instituted by President Raúl Castro during this period. Together these changes created opportunities for increased musical exchanges as demonstrated by numerous case studies including composer Juanes, Tania León, Jay-Z, and more.

Trusting Records in the Cloud represents the results of the latest phase of InterPARES (International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems), an international research project established in 1998 to investigate preserving the evidential value of records in electronic record systems. The project has generated numerous case studies from across the globe under international teams representing North and Latin America, Europe, Asia, Australasia, Africa, and NATO. InterPARES Trust (hereafter, ITrust) focuses on digital records shared and stored in the cloud, defined as infrastructures and services distributed across a network, such as the internet.

This chapter explains three central physician duties that clearly set medical ethics apart from common morality: nonjudgmental regard, nonsexual regard, and confidentiality. Because patients will not trust doctors when they are not confident in the doctor’s devotion and commitment to meeting their medical needs, doctors must avoid any intimation of judging a patient unworthy of care. Because doctors need their patients to trust that the intimacy of the doctor-patient relationship has no sexual overtones in spite of the revelation, nudity, and touching, doctors must maintain nonsexual regard in their patient interactions. Because doctors need patients to divulge intimate personal details about their behavior and history in order to make accurate diagnoses and develop treatment plans, patients must be able to trust their doctors to uphold confidentiality and only share medical information with other professionals on a need-to-know basis. These duties are explained and illustrated with numerous case examples.

AbstractWith its rich lithological variation, upland, lowland and coastal settings, and past climatic changes, the UK presents a wide variety of landslide features that can pose significant hazards to people, construction and infrastructure, or simply add to landscape character and conservation value of an area. This chapter describes and defines the nature and extent of this landsliding; the causes, effects and geological controls on failure; and their mitigation and stabilization. A risk-based approach to landslide management is outlined with qualitative and semi-quantitative methodologies described. Numerous case studies are presented exemplifying landslide and slope stability hazards in the UK.

Abstract This article introduces the concept of nudge – low-cost behaviourally informed modes of regulation that influence people’s decisions without limiting their choice set – into the behavioural analysis of international law. It sketches out the pathways through which nudges might influence the behaviour of countries, and highlights the normative implications associated with utilizing these regulatory tools in the international arena. That done, the article presents numerous case studies that demonstrate how nudges such as defaults, goals and rankings are integrated into the international legal terrain.

Morbihan syndrome is a rare entity causing woody induration of the face. There are numerous case reports of bilateral Morbihan syndrome. We present a case of a 46-year-old man with right infra-orbital cheek swelling and symptoms of rosacea who had histology consistent with granulomatous rosacea following debulking surgery. His clinical presentation and investigation findings support a diagnosis of rosacea causing unilateral Morbihan syndrome.

Goldenhar syndrome, also known as oculo-auriculo-vertebral syndrome, has been described since 1952. Traditionally, the syndrome has been described as having eye, ear, facial and vertebral anomalies. However, numerous case reports and reviews have highlighted multi-organ involvement, including cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory system and urinary abnormalities. We describe a 13 years old who has a reproductive tract abnormality, which has not been reported previously as a finding of Goldenhar syndrome.
