This chapter explores a management framework created primarily by Gary P. Latham's Work Motivation: History, Theory, Research, and Practice (2012). Several other important works are examined to enhance the value of the analysis. One benefit of teleworking consistently expressed by teleworkers is increased employee happiness, so the authors explore the reasonable connection to motivation. The chapter examines the history and background in the field to trace the development of workplace motivation theories and offers a framework that provides insights for the analyses in this book. They study motivation before they move on to issues of productivity in the next chapter. The framework presented sheds light on the human elements of motivation and leads to reference points necessary to develop effective trustworthiness and improved performance studied throughout the book. Through a detailed examination of the role of motivation in the management framework presented, leaders will understand that many theorists argue that current theories of motivation focus on different aspects of the process.

AbstractUniversity students’ study motivation in a particular moment is shaped by contextual factors such as upcoming exams and conflicts between different action tendencies. We investigated how these two contextual factors are related. Based on the theoretical assumption that students’ in-the-moment study motivation increases relative to their motivation for other activities as exams approach, we investigated how students’ study activities and their experience of motivational action conflicts develop when exams come closer in time. Using the experience sampling method, we tracked the in-situ activities and conflict experience of 134 first-semester university students over one week and a total of 4995 measurement points just before exams. Multilevel logistic regression revealed that the probability to study increased by 13.9% and the probability to experience a motivational conflict decreased by 17.5% each day the exam came closer in time. Multilevel regression showed that motivational conflicts were more intense the closer the exam was in time. Students were generally less likely to experience conflicts while studying and experienced more intense conflicts when the conflicting activity was study related. We discuss that both multiple goals and the temporal distance of relevant events should be considered as relevant contexts shaping the situated motivation of university students.

The task of the project was to create an Internet-based universal set of services for a study course “Computer programming” and alike. The services support various academic activities: lectures, tests, tutorials, labs, and unsupervised students work in the course. Many services are united around a database of computer programming problems. Instructors and students are provided with different tools. Instructors use services that help in preparation for classes, automate knowledge monitoring, check the authenticity of problem solutions, work for study motivation of students, etc. Students get access to course lecture notes, problems for solution with automatic solution verification, means of online course discussion with peers and instructors, etc. The portal has been successfully used for four years at the Kharkov University of Radio Electronics, Ukraine.

This study aims to determine the effect of motivation and work experience on employee productivity at Starbuck Coffee at Graha Raya Bintaro. The method used is explanatory research with analysis techniques using statistical analysis with regression testing, correlation, determination and hypothesis testing. This study motivation significantly affects employee productivity by 51.3%, and hypothesis testing obtained t count> t table or (5,434> 2,048). Work experience significantly affects employee productivity by 48.4%; hypothesis testing is obtained t count> t table or (5,122> 2,048). Motivation and work experience simultaneously significantly affect employee productivity with the regression equation Y = 10.832 + 0.420X1 + 0.300X2, and the influence contribution is 60.9%, hypothesis testing is obtained F count> F table or (21.018> 2.960).
