ABSTRACT: Contemporary Latin-American comics that adopt the medieval world as the basis of their fictional creation have not been sufficiently studied by scholars. In this article we propose to carry out an analysis of the series Almer, by the Argentinian author Manuel Loza, published during the second decade of the 21st century. We focus, on the one hand, on the extensions of the medieval matter found in this fiction and, on the other hand, on the peculiarities that the characters have and the adventures that take place in a diverse context. Among these aspects we highlight the redefinition of one of the elements of the Arthurian myth, that of equality among peers, in order to create a novel knight whose task is, above all, to protect laborers and the oppressed in society. At the end we include, as an appendix, an interview conducted to the author in 2021 on the occasion of the current volume of Storyca.

On the occasion of its 30th Anniversary Volume, the genesis, evolution and prospects of the Italian Yearbook of International Law (IYIL) are set out in the present piece. After sketching the main stages of development from its creation to the current volume, consideration is given to the dynamic scholarly and historical context which favoured the emergence of the IYIL in the 1970s. Notwithstanding several precursors, a rising number of competitors and a growing reliance on internet-based services by international law researchers and practitioners, it is submitted that the IYIL was born out of, and continues to appear as, a distinctive experience in the Italian legal publishing environment.

Abstract The possibility of creating small picosecond lasers in the VUV-UV spectral range by pumping by a high-current volume discharge of gaseous media (Xe and N2) at a pressure of 1-3 atm is investigated. Generation of picosecond (200 ps) powerful (1.2 MW) pulses at a wavelength of 337 nm at an N2 pressure of 1–3 atm has been achieved. Based on studies of high-current volume picosecond discharges in xenon, using VUV-UV spectroscopy, the presence of short-lived absorption of VUV radiation by discharge plasma was observed. A mechanism for the suppression of the formation of Xe 2 * dimers due to thermal effects at the stage of recombination of electrons with Xe+ ions at a plasma temperature of 105 K with a pulsed pump of 200 ps duration was suggested.

This introductory chapter charts the book’s trajectory by engaging with three interlinked key dynamics of contemporary healthcare—marketization, digitalization, and individualization. It draws on several theoretical frameworks to conceptualize notions of the common, collective, or public good and to consider how healthcare activism may play into defining and defending the collective good when faced with the outlined societal, economic, and scientific dynamics. Presenting contemporary examples from the Covid-19 pandemic, the chapter argues that the way activists define and defend the collective good can only fully be understood by grasping how this good is shaped by other, often more dominant, stakeholders in healthcare: governmental institutions, professional experts, scientists, and private industry—the latter being a focal point of concern for this current volume.

This study is on the design and method of a volume measuring device installed inside a box used to store liquids mainly wine. Current devices that store wine in boxes have inside these boxes, inner boxes regularly made of rigid cardboard and a sealed plastic receptacle, which has an outlet tap to serve the wine. The device is focused on being used in the new wine packaging in a cardboard box. The measuring device is placed at the bottom of the wine dispenser box and displays a measurement of the volume of the wine even in the box via a measurement tower. The wine storage box contains inside: the device located at the bottom of the box containing the wine (i.e., the liquid), and the plastic container containing the wine above our measuring device. The measuring device will feel the weight of the current wine content in the plastic container and will automatically move a signal indicating the level of the liquid even in the plastic container. The measurement will be visible from the outside of the box by the consumer, the device is included by a receptacle or sealed bag connected to the measurement tower. The weight measurement receptacle is sealed and made of a material with a leak-resistant layer, and which is usually irregularly oval and is filled with at least one form of gas or air and where the packing layer is shaped to fill the bottom of the container and it is placed under the bag for storage and shipping. As the pressure of the liquid weight changes, the receptacle reacts by moving a measuring marker that reflects such changes, thus measuring the current volume of the liquid in the shipping box. There are numerous patents for measuring liquids, particularly for wine, and then we present several of these patents that are the most relevant to our case

ABSTRACT Popular and scholarly information concerning the life of James Croll has been accumulating slowly since the death in 1890 of the self-taught climate change pioneer. The papers in the current volume offer thorough assessments of topics associated with Croll's work, but this contribution seeks to provide a personal context for an understanding of James Croll the man, as well as James Croll the scholar of sciences and religion. Using archival as well as published sources, emphasis is placed upon selected components of his life and some of the less recognised features of his biography. These include his family history, his many homes, his health, participation in learned societies and attitudes to collegiality, financial problems including the failed efforts to secure a larger pension, and friendship. Life delivered a mixture of ‘trials and sorrows’, but it seems clear from the affection and respect accorded him that many looked upon James Croll as a ‘man greater far than his work’.

The Annotated Passover Haggadah presented here is unique, both in substance and appeal. The story is well-known and often repeated, having been translated, elaborated, neutered, abbreviated, truncated, and all but exfoliated over the many centuries. Nevertheless, the current volume makes an important contribution since, while preserving both the traditional Hebrew text along with an equally traditional English translation, it provides important analytical, philosophical, and theological perspectives on the seminal event of Jewish consciousness and self-awareness. This Haggadah is intended, notwithstanding its scholarly rigor, for practical use in family and congregational settings for those who wish, during this all-important night, to delve ever deeply into the Passover narrative, to go beyond the mere repetition of an annual ritual into a more richly rewarding and profound experience. Its overall theme is a celebration, not only of the deliverance from Egypt but of the widely disparate ways in which the Passover is observed by sundry traditions worldwide. Going beyond the “normative” observance of the Passover Seder, this Haggadah breaks new ground in referencing the increasing interest among Christians and Messianic Jews in observing the Exodus from Egypt. It underscores, via a small cadre of the world’s most renowned Jewish scholars, the sanctified memory of this mighty deliverance, which remains forever emblazoned in the Jewish soul.
