ABSTRACT This workshop on strengthening Transwomen with HIV/Aids (ODHAT) started from the issue of discrimination that often afflicts the LGBT and ODHATgroups. Transgender women or better known as waria are gender transfers from male to female. They are often embarrassed or humiliated to take part in society {especially for ODHA (People with HIV/Aids)}. In the city of Singaraja, Wargas have been formed as Transwomen organization that is actively developing their social and cultural capital in the community. Denpasar City has three units of official outreach institutions for LGBT, namely Gaya Dewata, Kerti Praja Foundation and Spirit Paramacita. The number of Transwomen with ODHA in Denpasar City is estimated at 40 people and in Singaraja City it is estimated at 11 people. They need to be protected from the stigma of society in other reachable and social media so that their communication patterns are more conducive and the community is more accepting of their existence. The 5-hour Tengkuluk Lelunakan make-up training was carried out by presenting the Warcan and Perwaron groups at Salon Agung on July 13, 2019. Ibu Agung as a salon owner who is famous for Payas Agung and Tengkuluk Lelunakan has facilitated them to learn tengkuluk lelunakan make-up. Denpasar city transgender groups are facilitated to perform in cultural events or other festivals, as has been done by Wargas in Singaraja city. However, correspondence with the Head of the Bali Provincial Culture Service in the office and with the initiator of the Sanur Village Festival at the Griya Santrian hotel has not produced results. The tengkuluk Lelunakan workshop for transwomen with ODHA aims to make the community accept them and finally be able to get access to various facilities to perform in public areas, especially in festivals in the city of Denpasar. Keywords:  transwomen, ODHAT, LGBT discrimination, Denpasar, Singaraja

PurposeThe purpose of the study was to explore multidirectional flows of information over the course of an emergency. The following research questions were designed to guide this study: How does social media communication unfold over the course of an emergency at a cultural event? How does the nature and purpose of social media communication between all SM users change once an emergency occurs that affects event operations? How does the sentiment of social media communication change once an emergency occurs that affects event operations?Design/methodology/approachThis study explored how social media was used to communicate about on-site emergencies at community cultural events. Three events were studied before, during and after an on-site emergency that disrupted the event. The Twitter and Facebook posts referencing emergencies that took place at Shambhala, Detonate and Zombicon were explored, and the nature and purpose of the posts revealed how online communication changed throughout the emergencies. The Social Mediated Crisis Communication Model guided this research and findings contribute to the model's ongoing development by incorporating additional theories and models.FindingsThe research demonstrates that social media communication shifts during an emergency and how communication moves through a network changes. Once an emergency is underway, communication increases and who is talking with whom changes. The nature and purpose of the social media conversation also evolves over the course of an emergency.Research limitations/implicationsThis study examined the social media communication during three on-site emergencies at three different cultural events. The findings contribute to the understanding of the Social Media Crisis Communication Model. Specifically, the research confirms the various actors who engage online but also shows that two-way communication is not common. As this study only examined three events experiencing three different emergencies, we have a limited understanding of how the type of emergencies affects social media communication.Practical implicationsThe findings show the need for pre-crisis work by event organizers. It is necessary for the events to build trust with their online communities to ensure that when an emergency occurs the event will be seen as a trusted source. Also, staff training is needed to ensure people are prepared to handle the complexities of communicating online during an emergency. Issues like misinformation, influencers and the rapid pace of social media communication create a challenging environment for staff who are unprepared.Originality/valueEmergencies can threaten the survival of event organizations and put the health and wellness of attendees, staff and other stakeholders at risk. The study of crisis communication in special event contexts has received little theoretical attention and yet it is an important area of event management practice. Social media is an essential part of communication strategies and should be integrated into emergency planning to best reach people when an emergency threatens the safety of those involved with the event. The Social Media Crisis Communication Model offers some insight, but understanding its relevance is necessary if it is to be integrated into event emergency management.

Cultural values must be strengthened as part of local wisdom by increasing community capacity in the management and innovation of tourist attractions. Cultural activities in Dewa Bronto Tourism Village have been running for some time, but their management is still subpar. The community does strongly support tourism activities, but community participation in managing the potential of tourist villages remains low. This service activity aims to increase community involvement in managing the cultural event of Dewa Bronto Tourism Village in Brontokusuman Village through an empowerment approach. Mentoring activities are carried out at various stages of socialization, tourism village management training, tourism product management, and marketing the potential of tourist villages. Implementing community service activities has the potential to increase knowledge, community skills, and form awareness and independence in the management of tourist villages, particularly cultural events. Implementing the program has the potential to increase knowledge, community skills, and form awareness and independence in the management of tourist villages, particularly cultural events. This is demonstrated by the community's active participation in organizing cultural events on its own. Furthermore, the community participated in cultural-themed tourism competitions at the Yogyakarta City level.

Conferences are ideal platforms for studying gender gaps in science because they are important cultural events that reflect barriers to women in academia. Here, we explored women’s participation in ecology conferences by analyzing female representation, behavior, and personal experience at the 1st Meeting of the Iberian Society of Ecology (SIBECOL). The conference had 722 attendees, 576 contributions, and 27 scientific sessions. The gender of attendees and presenters was balanced (48/52% women/men), yet only 29% of the contributions had a woman as last author. Moreover, men presented most of the keynote talks (67%) and convened most of the sessions. Our results also showed that only 32% of the questions were asked by women, yet the number of questions raised by women increased when the speaker or the convener was a woman. Finally, the post-conference survey revealed that attendees had a good experience and did not perceive the event as a threatening context for women. Yet, differences in the responses between genders suggest that women tended to have a worse experience than their male counterparts. Although our results showed clear gender biases, most of the participants of the conference failed to detect it. Overall, we highlight the challenge of increasing women’s scientific leadership, visibility and interaction in scientific conferences and we suggest several recommendations for creating inclusive meetings, thereby promoting equal opportunities for all participants.

In Northern Cyprus, cultural festivals are increasingly popular. The routinely celebrated festivals transform small villages into colourful celebrations with lots of activities and great culinary experiences, offering opportunities for social contact between members of different generations. People meet in the streets, where traditional food and handicrafts are on display and traditional folk dance performances usually take place. Cultural events provide an important space in which older generations often nostalgically remember the past with others of their generation and share their memories with the young people. Bi‐communal interactions between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots in these public spaces also help leave behind and bury the violence of the past, nationalistic dogma, and intolerance. Drawing on ideas from postcolonial theory, cultural studies, sociology, and scholarship on public art, this article develops a post‐postcolonial approach to explore the politics and value of Turkish Cypriot cultural festivals and the ways in which Turkish Cypriots are bridging differences with Greek Cypriots. Through observations, conversations, and interviews conducted with Turkish Cypriots from June 2014 to October 2017, the article also discusses the ways in which public art encourages dialogue and multicultural tolerance in Cyprus. The article argues that the rise of interest in Turkish Cypriot folk arts and multicultural tolerance, as propagated by Turkish Cypriots, should be understood in more complex terms than simply that of positive inclusion, as an ambivalence closely connected to the East/West division. Accordingly, the article illustrates that the coexistence of inclu‐ sion and exclusion are at the heart of Turkish Cypriot society.

This article provides project managers, the cultural events organizers, a new approach to plan preparation and to the monitoring of events realization. The Dynamic Iteration Method introduced in this article is based on the system dynamic modelling and on the principles of project iterative development. The plan model and the reality model are structurally similar; they differ in values of exogenous variables. The new approach enables to easily monitor the real project course in close connection with the plan and to take timely controlling steps. The effects resulting from the manager´s decisionmaking process are compared with the plan in regular iterations. The method thus reminds of a traveller whose route is adjusted by a GPS navigation system.
