During this COVID-19 pandemic, many people were confused about how to deal with COVID-19. In dealing with this, President Joko Widodo made a virtual speech to deal with this pandemic in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Based on this background, this study will discuss the meaning of the rhetorical study from President Jokowi, which contains an appeal to continue to live the days according to the Covid 19 protocol. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach and used descriptive analysis methods, which provide an overview and understanding to the reader about Aristotle's rhetorical theory in the art of persuasion carried out by President Jokowi through a press release on "Together Against Corona." with literature studies that already exist in previous research. The formulation of the problem that the researcher raises is how the analysis of the content of President Jokowi's speech "United Facing Corona" delivered through a youtube video intersects with ethos, logos, pathos as dimensions of rhetoric or its aspects. This research shows that President Jokowi, who acts as a communicator in this speech in persuading the public, has fulfilled ethos, logos, and pathos when viewed from Aristotle's art of persuasion. The speech "United Facing Corona" applies the use of five aspects in rhetoric, such as the discovery aspect, the regulatory aspect, the style aspect, the delivery aspect, the memory aspect, and others. The speech "United Facing Corona" as a whole has shown the rhetorical concept of Aristotle.

This study aims to clarify the significance of the affirmation in the dialogue of the brothers of Joseph, peace be upon him, in the light of the science of semantics. Which makes the hypothesis that their constant feeling that they are under suspicion makes them confirm their words; so that its content would reach the hearts of their listeners, even if those listeners were not in denial of their words; This behavior made the emphasis in their dialogue the most prominent stylistic feature worthy of contemplation and study. This study came in two sections: the first is the theoretical one; It dealt with the emphasis in the Arabic language, its reasons, and the characteristics of the dialogical text; To take from this a knowledge base to move towards the analysis and interpretation of the noble verses that included the dialogue of the Joseph brothers, in the second topic, which is the applied part of the study; Where I extrapolated the noble surah and extracted from it the places that included the dialogue of Joseph’s brothers with their father mostly, and with the entourage of Al-Aziz sometimes, and with Al-Aziz at other times, and then with Joseph himself; target From that extrapolation, classification and analysis, arriving at the psychological significance of the use of emphasis in this intense manner in the dialogue of the brothers of Joseph, peace be upon him, and I interrogated the text itself first, then I used the sayings of the commentators in what I am about to analyze, and I found that they did not pay attention to what I meant; It is an indication of the emphasis on the emotional state of Yusuf’s brothers, with the exception of three modern interpretations in which a passing reference was made to this aspect that I made the subject of my care, and these interpretations are: Tafsir al-Manar, Liberation and Enlightenment, in the shadows of the Qur’an.

Oronym is a kind of wordplay where phrases that sound the same are comically used. This study investigates oronyms in English by analyzing their phonological aspects employed to make rhetorical effect, exploring their production mechanism, and constructing a phono-rhetorical model for analyzing them. Twelve examples of oronyms have been randomly taken from TV shows, songs, nursery rhymes, and books of jokes and fun with words. The main findings of the study have been: (1) Oronym is a rhetorical device that combines two ideas in a single sequence of words; (2) Oronyms are constructed on the basis of juncture by which the same sequence of sounds can form more than one morphemic structure; (3) juncture acts as a linguistic strategy consciously used to yield phonological ambiguity necessary for such type of wordplay; and (4) there are two main types of oronyms - Word-to-Phrase and Phrase-to-Phrase - that can be utilized vertically and horizontally. The significance of this study stems from its novelty and being an earnest endeavour to explore the linguistic features of oronyms comprehensively. It laid a theoretical foundation for promising future studies on oronyms even in other languages, especially in Arabic.   Received: 29 September 2020 / Accepted: 18 November 2020/ Published: 5 March 2021

The research deals with the study of Surat al-Shura, an analytical rhetorical study, and the linguistic root of its title indicates its manifestation, presentation, and extraction. In Islam and teaching Muslims to base their lives on this optimal and most complete approach (the method of shura) because of its great impact on the life of the individual and society. It was added in its opening with (Ham) other letters, which are (Asq), and for this reason it is also called (Ham Asak) and is called (Surat Asq) for the purpose of abbreviation, and it was singled out as adding (Asq) to (Ham) because of the severity of the stabbing against the Qur’an. At the time this Surah was revealed, the challenge to them was more severe, so it was more challenging for them than the letters of the spelling. The surah was distinguished by its miraculous rhetorical style, and the abundance of various rhetorical arts in its verse systems. The rhetorical study of this Surah aims to note that the rhetorical arts embrace the ideas and topics presented in a harmonious manner, and how these ideas and themes are manifested through those arts with inspiration, vitality and power of influence, for rhetoric means fulfilling the meaning and abstaining from beauty, that is, the artistic and psychological aesthetic capacity in it, especially since this Surah may She revealed the call during her Meccan era. The research aims to reach an understanding of the aspects of the rhetorical miracles of the Holy Qur’an. The statement of the Qur’anic expression often affects the formula and its derivation. The research relies on the approach of the inductive approach, by following the Qur’anic verses related to this topic in letter and spirit. And the rhetorical analytical method, by analyzing these verses and dividing them according to their content; And the deductive approach, by extracting the rhetoric, meanings, connotations and directions in the noble verses. In the end, I concluded that reaching an understanding of aspects of the rhetorical miracles of the Holy Qur’an can only be achieved through an understanding of the rhetorical method based on deep consideration, feeling and artistic appreciation of the Qur’anic verses.

This study examines persuasion and communicative intentions in Pentecostal sermons in Nigeria. Notwithstanding the high scholarly inputs in religious discourse, no single work has examined the devices employed to achieve persuasion and conviction as well as communicative intentions in Pentecostal sermons in Nigeria. This work examines twelve sermons of selected Pentecostal preachers in Nigeria by drawing insights from rhetoric and pragmatic act to account for persuasion and communicative intentions in the data. Findings reveal that preachers strategically deploy rhetorical question; direct address and direct command; metaphor; repetition and structural parallelism; and they develop convincing arguments through logic/reason. It is also revealed that preachers share experiences with their listeners and they assume divine role by speaking authoritatively to convince their listeners into accepting their propositions. Preachers perform pragmatic acts of asserting/stating, encouraging, assuring, directing, commanding, praising, etc. The study has further confirmed that Pentecostal sermons can be used for public mobilisation.

This book provides readers with a critical rhetorical study of Montgomery, Alabama’s Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Using critical genealogical methods, the authors argue that the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), led by Bryan Stevenson, uses these particular sites of memory for a variety of rhetorical functions, including the recovery of forgotten lynching pasts as well as reparatory efforts. The book takes the stance that Stevenson and the EJI are not only interested in helping American communities remember lynching histories but are also interested in using lynching legacies for modern-day mass incarceration reformation. Using the concept of “racial terrorism” the EJI uses places like the Legacy Museum to try and convince American audiences who may not have confronted fraught lynching pasts that they need to acknowledge these pasts if they hope to ever become involved in true reconciliation with those who suffer from the ravages of genocidal histories and traumatizing pasts.
