The Paleolithic site in Moravany nad Váhom-Podkovica is located in the north-eastern part of the Moravian settlement area and is among the most famous Upper Paleolithic sites in Slovakia. It is a key site of the Willendorf-Kostenkian and the so-called shouldered Point Horizon in Central Europe. Despite decades of research, interest during the previous century and the numerous existing – but lost or scattered – collections, the context of the finds and the characteristics of the cultural layers remain almost unknown. Modern research methods and the absence of the relevant chrono-cultural classification of the assemblages led to reopening the field research. This research aims to review and reassess the results of older excavations, to identify the exact location of the site and the conditions of the preservation of the layers. The goal is also to collect new material suitable for multidisciplinary analysis and dating as most of the old collections have been scattered. The new excavations conducted at the site in 2016 and 2019 brought interesting results, such as a preserved anthropogenic layer with an evident structure filled with datable material. This article presents the methodology and the results of this work with a focus on the first mineralogical evaluations, the analysis of faunal remains and an overview of the stone industry.

In order to improve the effect of traditional cultural innovation, this paper proposes a cultural algorithm with dual knowledge, and improves the effect of the algorithm to obtain a cultural algorithm with dual knowledge. Each individual corresponds to its unique dual knowledge, so that the individual’s evolution can move towards the current optimal solution. This paper constructs a traditional cultural innovation system architecture based on artificial intelligence, analyzes its functional modules, and constructs the system structure from the perspectives of cultural classification and cultural innovation. After constructing the system, this paper designs experiments to verify the system performance. The research results show that the system constructed in this paper performs well in traditional cultural analysis and traditional cultural innovation, and can provide references for related research.

Since the 1990s, the central references of the sociology of cultural practices have been the theoretical frameworks developed by Pierre Bourdieu and Richard A. Peterson around the concepts of distinction and omnivorousness. This article is based on these frameworks; it revises them together with those of Donnat and Lahire and postulates that the terms of cultural classification and especially those of the upper classes (distinguished and omnivorous) require revision. The article also claims that there are diverse socio-cultural profiles due to the fact that there is never a single logic of differentiation of tastes, and that the results of the present research demand a new conceptual framework capable of showing the operation of diverse logics of differentiation and hierarchy. In order to do this, an analysis of the socio-cultural profiles of the cultivated groups in Spanish society is carried out on the data obtained from the Survey of Cultural Habits and Practices in Spain 2018/19. This work proves the existence of three types of cultivated population – classical, modern and syncretic – with notable differences in their cultural interests and practices, as well as in their underlying sociodemographic features and aesthetic logics, and concludes by posing the need to delve into the latter in what it defines as the study of cultural practice regimes.

The Inconstancy of the World. Brief Notes on Socio-Cultural Identifications and their AxesAbstract: The article assumes that the literature already accumulated encompasses so many ethnographic materials and theoretical proposals that an effort is needed to systematize this knowledge. In this way, the so-called “social construction of reality” is well known, however, its implications are not sufficiently taken into account in our anthropological efforts. Therefore, it discusses here some aspects of the “socio-cultural creation of the socio-cultural reality”, in particular, some selected aspects of the “inconstancy of the world”, to then discuss the social classification, in a general sense, and offer a synoptic picture of the “identification and their continuum axes ”. The synoptic table summarizes a great literature (impossible to be cited all), giving the opportunity to abstract the real complexity of a fundamental affective-cognitive process and to contribute to the methodology and theory of future analyzes. In this sense, this contribution aims to offer a systematization, at the very abstract and theoretical and very limited level, of the human socio-cultural classification process. Keywords: Reality; Partner-Creation; Classification; Identification Axes.

This cultural-interpretive essay offers critical commentary on Koreanness, racial ideology, hegemonic racial power, and racialized cultural taste with the aim of interpreting the sport–music nexus by examining a case of the interface between music and sport: The authors focus on the case of the Olympic ice dance that the South Korean team performed for the Korean traditional folk song Arirang at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. The authors argue that music and sport can be understood as a semiological system that shapes non-Whites’ ideological belief system. In addition, this essay engages with a discussion of cultural classification that often racializes skaters of color as the aforementioned are informed by Orientalism.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse two questions. First, is there, and if so, how large is the price premium paid for a building exhibiting a cultural value? Second, are there any spillover effects of buildings with cultural values on sales prices of neighbouring houses? Design/methodology/approach Using a unique database of all buildings in the region of Halland, Sweden, combined with transaction data, hedonic models can be estimated, with spatially lagged variables describing proximity to three classes of culturally classified building – A, B and C – corresponding to building of national interest, building of regional interest and building of local interest. In addition, the authors also estimate models with a spatial specification on the error term, in an attempt to control for omitted variables. Findings The results indicate that cultural classification plays a role in determining the price of a property, with large effects (ranging between 36 and 60% price premiums) for the highest classification. In addition, the authors find evidence of a cultural externality, houses in the vicinity of building with high cultural value sell at a small, but statistically significant premium of 1%. Originality/value The cultural externality may be overlooked when it comes to valuation of cultural values in society, and therefore, it is likely that warranted protection acts to preserve cultural values in buildings become less than the social optimum. This paper suggests a new measure to cultural values contrasting previous research that rely on cultural preservation. This approach should limit problems with measurement errors that may lead to biased results.
