Abstract We study the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions to the periodic problem u ′′ = p ⁢ ( t ) ⁢ u - q ⁢ ( t , u ) ⁢ u + f ⁢ ( t ) ; u ⁢ ( 0 ) = u ⁢ ( ω ) , u ′ ⁢ ( 0 ) = u ′ ⁢ ( ω ) , u^{\prime\prime}=p(t)u-q(t,u)u+f(t);\quad u(0)=u(\omega),\quad u^{\prime}(0)=u^{\prime}(\omega), where p , f ∈ L ⁢ ( [ 0 , ω ] ) p,f\in L([0,\omega]) and q : [ 0 , ω ] × R → R q\colon[0,\omega]\times\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R} is a Carathéodory function. By using the method of lower and upper functions, we show some properties of the solution set of the considered problem and, in particular, the existence of a minimal positive solution.

<p>The results presented in this paper highlight the property of the Gaussian hypergeometric function to be a Carathéodory function and refer to certain differential inequalities interpreted in form of inclusion relations for subsets of the complex plane using the means of the theory of differential superordination and the method of subordination chains also known as Löwner chains.</p>

The aim of this paper is to establish a weak comparison principle for a class fractional p -Laplacian equation with weight. The nonlinear term f x , s > 0 is a Carathéodory function which is possibly unbounded both at the origin and at infinity and such that f x , s s 1 − p decreases with respect to s for a.e. x ∈ Ω .

In this paper, we consider a class of anisotropic quasilinear elliptic equations of the type ( | ∑N { − ∂ia (x, u, ∇u ) + |u|s(x )− 1u = f (x,u ), in Ω, i |( i=1 u = 0 on ∂ Ω, where f(x,s) is a Carathéodory function which satisfies some growth condition. We prove the existence of renormalized solutions for our Dirichlet problem, and some regularity results are concluded.

The purpose of this paper is to show the existence results for the following abstract equation Jpu = Nfu,where Jp is the duality application on a real reflexive and smooth X Banach space, that corresponds to the gauge function φ(t) = tp-1, 1 < p < ∞. We assume that X is compactly imbedded in Lq(Ω), where Ω is a bounded domain in RN, N ≥ 2, 1 < q < p∗, p∗ is the Sobolev conjugate exponent.Nf : Lq(Ω) → Lq′(Ω), 1/q + 1/q′ = 1, is the Nemytskii operator that Caratheodory function generated by a f : Ω × R → R which satisfies some growth conditions. We use topological methods (via Leray-Schauder degree), critical points methods (the Mountain Pass theorem) and a direct variational method to prove the existence of the solutions for the equation Jpu = Nfu.

Abstract Our main concern in this article is to investigate the existence of solution for the boundary-value problem $$\begin{aligned}& (\phi \bigl(x'(t)\bigr)'=g_{1} \bigl(t,x(t),x'(t)\bigr),\quad \forall t\in [0,1], \\& \Upsilon _{1}\bigl(x(0),x(1),x'(0)\bigr)=0, \\& \Upsilon _{2}\bigl(x(0),x(1),x'(1)\bigr)=0, \end{aligned}$$ ( ϕ ( x ′ ( t ) ) ′ = g 1 ( t , x ( t ) , x ′ ( t ) ) , ∀ t ∈ [ 0 , 1 ] , ϒ 1 ( x ( 0 ) , x ( 1 ) , x ′ ( 0 ) ) = 0 , ϒ 2 ( x ( 0 ) , x ( 1 ) , x ′ ( 1 ) ) = 0 , where $g_{1}:[0,1]\times \mathbb{R}^{2}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ g 1 : [ 0 , 1 ] × R 2 → R is an $L^{1}$ L 1 -Carathéodory function, $\Upsilon _{i}:\mathbb{R}^{3}\rightarrow \mathbb{R} $ ϒ i : R 3 → R are continuous functions, $i=1,2$ i = 1 , 2 , and $\phi :(-a,a)\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ ϕ : ( − a , a ) → R is an increasing homeomorphism such that $\phi (0)=0$ ϕ ( 0 ) = 0 , for $0< a< \infty $ 0 < a < ∞ . We obtain the solvability results by imposing some new conditions on the boundary functions. The new conditions allow us to ensure the existence of at least one solution in the sector defined by well ordered functions. These ordered functions do not require one to check the definitions of lower and upper solutions. Moreover, the monotonicity assumptions on the arguments of boundary functions are not required in our case. An application is considered to ensure the applicability of our results.

We consider an anisotropic Dirichlet problem which is driven by the (p(z),q(z))-Laplacian (that is, the sum of a p(z)-Laplacian and a q(z)-Laplacian), The reaction (source) term, is a Carathéodory function which asymptotically as x±∞ can be resonant with respect to the principal eigenvalue of (−Δp(z),W01,p(z)(Ω)). First using truncation techniques and the direct method of the calculus of variations, we produce two smooth solutions of constant sign. In fact we show that there exist a smallest positive solution and a biggest negative solution. Then by combining variational tools, with suitable truncation techniques and the theory of critical groups, we show the existence of a nodal (sign changing) solution, located between the two extremal ones.

For a class of semilinear parabolic equations with discontinuous coefficients, the strong solvability of the Dirichlet problem is studied in this paper. The problem ∑i,j=1naijt,xuxixj−ut+gt,x,u=ft,x,uΓQT=0, in QT=Ω×0,T is the subject of our study, where Ω is bounded C2 or a convex subdomain of En+1,ΓQT=∂QT\∖t=T. The function gx,u is assumed to be a Caratheodory function satisfying the growth condition gt,x,u≤b0uq, for b0>0,q∈0,n+1/n−1,n≥2, and leading coefficients satisfy Cordes condition b0>0,q∈0,n+1/n−1,n≥2.

We study the orthogonal rational functions with a given sequence of poles on the half plane. We give the weak-star convergence results for the rational measures which relate to the Poisson kernel and reproducing kernel. Those rational measures represent the same inner product as the normalized Nevanlinna measure in [Formula: see text]. Moreover, we consider the convergence properties of the interpolants which interpolate the Carathéodory function [Formula: see text].

UDC 517.5 We deal with the existence result for nonlinear elliptic equations related to the form < b r > A u + g ( x , u , ∇ u ) = f , < b r > where the term - ⅆ i v ( a ( x , u , ∇ u ) ) is a Leray–Lions operator from a subset of W 0 1 L M ( Ω ) into its dual.  The growth and coercivity conditions on the monotone vector field a are prescribed by an N -function M which does not have to satisfy a Δ 2 -condition. Therefore we use Orlicz–Sobolev spaces which are not necessarily reflexive and assume that the nonlinearity g ( x , u , ∇ u ) is a Carathéodory function satisfying only a growth condition with no sign condition. The right-hand side~ f belongs to W -1 E M ¯ ( Ω ) .
