Abstract More than one billion people rely on livestock for income, nutrition, and social cohesion, however livestock keeping can facilitate disease transmission and contribute to climate change. While data on the distribution of livestock thus have broad utility across a range of applications, efforts to map the distribution of livestock on a large scale are limited to the Gridded Livestock of the World (GLW) project. We present a complimentary effort to map the distribution of cattle and pigs in Malawi, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and South Sudan. In contrast to GLW, which uses dasymmetric modeling applied to census data to produce time-stratified estimates of livestock counts and spatial density, our work uses complex survey data and distinct modeling methods to generate a time-series of livestock distribution, defining livestock density as the ratio of animals to humans. In addition to favorable cross-validation results and general agreement with national density estimates derived from external data on national human and livestock populations, our results demonstrate extremely good agreement with GLW-3 estimates, supporting the validity of both efforts. Our results furthermore offer a high-resolution time series result and employ a definition of density which is particularly well-suited to the study of livestock-origin zoonoses.

Abstract Purpose We aimed to evaluate whether outcomes with ablation in persistent (PsAF) and long-standing persistent (LsPsAF) AF can be improved beyond what can be achieved with pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) alone, using individualized mapping to guide ablation. Methods We studied 20 pts (15 M, 68 ± 11y) with PsAF (14) or LsPsAF (6) referred for first-time AF ablation. Following antral PVI, individualized mapping (IM) was performed using a high-density mapping catheter stably and fully deployed for 30 s at each of 23 ± 9 sites per patient. Activation data were reviewed, and an ablation strategy designed to intersect areas of focal and rotational activity. Mean follow-up was 429 ± 131 days. The study population was compared to a matched contemporary control cohort (CC) of 20 consecutive patients undergoing conventional ablation. Results Despite the IM group having a higher median comorbidities score, 3.5 vs. 2.5 in the CC group, indicating potentially more complex patients and more advanced substrate, cumulative freedom from AF after a single procedure was achieved in 94% of patients in the IM group vs. 75% in the CC group at 1 year and remained the same in both groups at the conclusion of the study (p = 0.02). There was a similar trend in atrial arrhythmia-free survival between both groups (84% vs. 67% at 1 year) that did not reach statistical significance. The procedure duration was longer in the IM group by a median of 31.5 min (p = 0.004). Conclusions Individualized mapping to guide AF ablation appears to achieve significantly greater AF-free survival compared to conventional PVI when applied as a primary ablation treatment. The results of this pilot study need to be confirmed in a larger, randomized trial.

Native potatoes are the most diverse among cultivated potato species and thus constitute a valuable source for identifying genes for potato improvement. Nevertheless, high-density mapping, needed to reveal allelic diversity, has not been performed for native Argentinian potatoes. We present a study of the genetic variability and population structure of 96 Andigena potatoes from Northwestern Argentina performed using a subset of 5035 SNPs with no missing data and full reproducibility. These high-density markers are distributed across the genome and present a good coverage of genomic regions. A Bayesian approach revealed the presence of: (I) a major group comprised of most of the Andean accessions; (II) a smaller group containing the out-group cv. Spunta and the sequenced genotype DM; and (III) a third group containing colored flesh potatoes. This grouping was also consistent when maximum likelihood trees were constructed and further confirmed by a principal coordinate analysis. A group of 19 accessions stored as Andean varieties clustered consistently with group Tuberosum accessions. This was in agreement with previous studies and we hypothesized that they may be reintroductions of European-bred long day-adapted potatoes. The present study constitutes a valuable source for allele mining of genes of interest and thus provides a tool for association mapping studies.

In the current work, the vibrational frequencies, infrared intensities, molecular geometry and Raman scattering were determined and investigated using ab initio Hartree–Fock (HF) and density functional methods with a basis set of 6-311++ G (d, p) of the organic molecule under interpretation. The FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of titled molecule have been recorded in the region 4000-400 cm-1 and 5000-70 cm-1, respectively. The optimized geometry structures (bond lengths and bond angles) achieved using HF shows the best result with the experimental values of the titled molecule. The frontier molecular orbitals help to distinguish chemical responsiveness and molecular kinetic steadiness, thus HOMO-LUMO analysis can be done using the quantum chemistry to improve thermodynamics. The electron density mapping to electrostatic potential surfaces were involved in finding the reactivity sites of the titled compound. With the help of Gauss view 5.0 and Chemcraft packages, the obtained outputs are analyzed. Hyperpolarizability and non-linear optical effect of isolated molecules of NLO materials are observed to be an extensive tool for molecular spectroscopy research. Therefore, for industrial application, Hyperpolarizability of the molecule is also studied.
