Alternating current (AC) electrical drives mainly require smaller current (or torque) ripples and lower total harmonic distortion (THD) of voltage for excellent drive performances. Normally, in practice, to achieve these requirements, the inverter needs to be operated at high switching frequency. By operating at high switching frequency, the size of filter can be reduced. However, the inverter which oftenly employs insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) for high power applications cannot be operated at high switching frequency. This is because, the IGBT switching frequency cannot be operated above 50 kHz due to its thermal restrictions. This paper proposes an alternate switching strategy to enable the use of IGBT for operating the inverter at high switching frequency to improve THD performances. In this strategy, each IGBT in a group of switches in the modified inverter circuit will operate the switching frequency at one-fourth of the inverter switching frequency. The alternate switching is implemented using simple analog and digital integrated circuits.

In challenging environments such as forests, valleys and higher latitude areas, there are usually fewer than four visible satellites. For cases with only two visible satellites, we propose a dual-satellite alternate switching ranging integrated navigation algorithm based on the broadband low earth orbit (LEO) constellation, which integrates communication and navigation (ICN) technology. It is different from the traditional dual-satellite integrated navigation algorithm: the difference is that it can complete precise real-time navigation and positioning without an altimeter and continuous observation. First, we give the principle of our algorithm. Second, with the help of an unscented Kalman filter (UKF), we give the observation equation and state equation of our algorithm, and establish the mathematical model of multipath/non-line of sight (NLOS) and noise interference. Finally, based on the SpaceX constellation, for various scenarios, we analyze the performance of our algorithm through simulation. The results show that: our algorithm can effectively suppress the divergence of the inertial navigation system (INS), in the face of different multipath/NLOS interference and various noise environments it still keeps good robustness, and also has great advantages in various indicators compared with the traditional dual-satellite positioning algorithms and some existing 3-satellite advanced positioning algorithms. These results show that our algorithm can meet the real-time location service requirements in harsh and challenging environments, and provides a new navigation and positioning method when there are only two visible satellites.

Stress and strain state of hybrid (combined) systems including flexible and rigid elements is studied in the article. Theoretical approach is presented. The feature of the systems studied is described, i.e. structural nonlinearity. Numerical analysis is presented. It is pointed out that vibrations of such structures upon conditions of resonance differ from those of classical bar structures, i.e. if for rigid bar systems the amplitudes of vibration at resonant disturbance increase monotonously, in combined (hybrid) system alternate switching off tie-bars stabilizes the amplitude of vibration at a certain value and transfers vibrations in the beating mode that can be considered as an internal vibration absorber.

ABSTRACT Mutations in ELA2, encoding the human serine protease neutrophil elastase, cause cyclic and severe congenital neutropenia, and recent evidence indicates that the mutations alter the membrane trafficking of neutrophil elastase. These disorders feature impaired bone marrow production of neutrophils along with excess monocytes—terminally differentiated lineages corresponding to the two alternative fates of myeloid progenitor cells. We utilized a modified yeast two-hybrid system and identified a new, widely expressed gene, N2N, whose product is homologous to Notch2, that interacts with neutrophil elastase. N2N is a 36-kDa protein distributed throughout the cell and secreted. Its amino-terminal sequence consists of several EGF repeats identical to those of the extracellular region of Notch2, and its carboxyl terminus contains a unique 24-residue domain required for interaction with neutrophil elastase. Neutrophil elastase cleaves N2N within EGF repeats in vitro and in living cells, but the C-terminal domain retards proteolysis. In vitro, N2N represses transcriptional activities of Notch proteins. Disease-causing mutations of neutrophil elastase disrupt the interaction with N2N, impair proteolysis of N2N and Notch2, and interfere with Notch2 signaling, suggesting defective proteolysis of an inhibitory form of Notch as an explanation for the alternate switching of cell fates characteristic of hereditary neutropenia.
