This article describes in detail one of the main tools for assessing the financial stability of an enterprise. The study describes a method for analyzing the financial stability of an enterprise based on relative indicators: its own working capital, the aggregate of its own and long-term funds, the total amount of sources for the formation of reserves and costs of an economic entity, and shows practical calculations on the example of an economic entity. The study reveals the essence of the method for determining one of the four types of financial situation: absolute stability, normal stability, unstable and crisis financial condition. The types are characterized based on the values of the threecomponent indicator of financial stability. Based on the results of the analysis of financial stability based on relative indicators, conclusions and proposals are made, with emphasis on the stabilization of the financial situation. The advantages and disadvantages of using the studied tool for assessing the financial stability of the enterprise are also highlighted.

In this article the problem of influence of accidental changes of financial indicators of enterprise activity (equity, long-term/short-term borrowed capital, reserves and costs, etc.) caused by uncertainty of market conditions on values of indicators of financial stability is considered. The study is conducted on the basis of the assumption that the studied financial indicators of the enterprise are random values with a normal law of distribution. To estimate the distribution parameters of these random values, statistical data on the values of the financial indicators of the enterprise for previous years are used. Following estimates of probabilities of financial stability levels were built: absolute stability, normal stability, unstable state and crisis financial state. With the help of statistical modeling, numerical experiments were conducted in order to determine the level of financial condition and conclusions were formulated on the impact on the financial condition of the enterprise of the parameters of the distribution of probabilities of random variables - indicators of the financial and economic activity of the enterprise.

Background: The brachioradialis (BR) wrap technique is an option to restore the stability of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ). The technique capitalizes on the BR’s advantageous insertion point on the radial styloid and the ability of the BR to be harvested with minimal to no deficit. The tendon can then be wrapped around the radius and ulna, tunneling under the pronator quadratus and extensor compartments and secured back into its insertion to provide stability. In this cadaveric study, we used micro-computed tomography (CT) to assess the stability restored by this procedure. Methods: Axial CT scans were taken of cadaveric specimens (n = 10) in 3 different positions (neutral, 60° pronation, and 60° supination) to establish the baseline measurements of each DRUJ. Surgical disruption of the dorsal and volar ligaments of each DRUJ then simulated a destabilizing injury and the specimens were scanned again. The specimens then underwent the BR wrap procedure and were scanned once more. Degree of ulnar subluxation with respect to the Sigmoid notch was determined using the modified radioulnar line method. Results: The mean percentages of subluxation in the neutral position for the normal, injured, and reconstructed DRUJ were 22.4±4.9%, 56.2±12.9%, and 29.0±6.5%, respectively. In 60° pronation, these values were 15.4±4.7%, 53.5±15.0%, and 36.5±11.8%, respectively. In 60° supination, these values were 18.6±2.5%, 69.7±20.5%, and 31.9±8.7%, respectively. Conclusions: Values differed significantly between normal and injured conditions in all positions. No significant difference was noted between normal and reconstructed conditions, suggesting reconstruction improves DRUJ biomechanics and more closely approximates normal stability.

Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) is an [Formula: see text] dimeric transcription factor. Because HIF-1[Formula: see text] is instable with oxygen, HIF-1 is scarce in normal mammalian cells. However, HIF-1[Formula: see text] is expressed in pathological conditions such as cancer and obesity. Inhibiting HIF-1[Formula: see text] may be of therapeutic value for these pathologies. Here, we investigated whether emodin, derived from the herb of Rheum palmatum L, which is also known as Chinese rhubarb, and is native to China, regulates HIF-1[Formula: see text] expression. Male C57BL/6 mice without or with diet-induced obesity were treated with emodin for two weeks, while control mice were treated with vehicle. HIF-1[Formula: see text] expression was determined by Western blot. We found that emodin inhibited obesity-induced HIF-1[Formula: see text] expression in liver and skeletal muscle but did not regulate HIF-1[Formula: see text] expression in the kidneys or in intra-abdominal fat. In vitro, emodin inhibited HIF-1[Formula: see text] expression in human HepG2 hepatic cells and Y1 adrenocortical cells. Further, we investigated the mechanisms of HIF-1[Formula: see text] expression in emodin-treated HepG2 cells. First, we found that HIF-1[Formula: see text] had normal stability in the presence of emodin. Thus, emodin did not decrease HIF-1[Formula: see text] by stimulating its degradation. Importantly, emodin decreased the activity of the signaling pathways that led to HIF-1[Formula: see text] biosynthesis. Interestingly, emodin increased HIF-1[Formula: see text] mRNA in HepG2 cells. This may be a result of feedback in response to the emodin-induced decrease in the protein of HIF-1[Formula: see text]. In conclusion, emodin decreases hepatic HIF-1[Formula: see text] by inhibiting its biosynthesis.

This chapter is intended to be read in parallel with the description of the operative technique (Chapter 7 ). That chapter is concerned with ‘how’ to do the operation; this chapter provides the rationale—‘why’ the various steps of the procedure are necessary. It may help also to watch the videos of the operation which can be found at www.oxfordpartialknee.com. Although the surgeon operates exclusively on the bones, carefully avoiding any interference with the ligaments, the operation is essentially about ‘soft tissue balance’. The aim is to implant the prosthetic surfaces so that the ligaments are at their resting tensions throughout the range of passive movement. This should restore both normal alignment, normal mobility and normal stability.

Rising global demand for natural products whose production is harmless to the environment has stimulated the development of natural cosmetics and, within this category, organics (95% organic raw materials). The image of environmentally friendly production is one of the strongest attractions of organic products. Lip balm is a cosmetic product similar to lipstick whose purpose is to prevent lip dryness and protect against adverse environmental factors. The product's characteristics are: resistance to temperature variations, pleasant flavor, innocuousness, smoothness during application, adherence and easy intentional removal. This work involved the development of a lip balm formulated with certified organic raw materials and the execution of stability tests: fusion point determination, evaluation of organoleptic characteristics (color, odor and appearance) and functionality evaluation (spreadability test). The formulation selected after the Preliminary Stability Test was submitted to the Normal Stability Test under the following storage conditions (temperature): Room Temperature (22.0 ± 3.0 ºC), Oven (40.0 ± 2.0 ºC) and Refrigerator (5.0 ± 1.0 ºC), for 90 days. Under the Refrigerator and Room Temperature conditions, spreadability proved adequate, but the surface presented white spots, characterizing the fat bloom, a phenomenon involving the recrystallization of cocoa butter. Storage at 40.0 ± 2.0 ºC (Oven) caused loss of functionality according to the spreadability test, in addition to changes in color, although the aspect was uniform since the fat bloom was not observed (white spots on the surface). The odor remained stable under all conditions as did the melting point, which had a mean of 72.9 ± 1.7 ºC throughout the course of stability testing (90 days).
