The use of wind based energy is quickly expanding over the planet. The goal of this study is to use computational methods of fluid dynamics to develop a novel model of VAWT including Windbooster for various rotor blades like two, three, and four blades in order to enhance effectiveness. CAD modelling approaches of vertical axis wind turbines including and excluding booster are created. Including all vertical axis wind turbine blade designs including and excluding booster, torque, power, and Coefficient of performance are compared.The performance of three blades on the basis of mechanical properties includingi wind amplifier is 29.9% greater than two blades using wind amplifier, and four blades using wind amplifier is 21.5 percent greater than three blades using wind amplifier, according to the findings. Because the mechanical energy created by a four-blade wind booster wasn't as great as it is including three blades, VAWT employing three-blade wind booster seems to be more effective than VAWT with a two- or four-blade wind booster. For improved mechanical durability, VAWT with three-blade wind amplifier is recommended.

<p>The Suitable machine demonstrates how aesthetic change can be made to a Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) device, allowing it to suit the visual style of a specified bedroom environment that has been described. Digital data (3D scans) of the CPAP device provided specific measurements allowing a wide variety of aesthetically styled outputs that were tailored to fit. Each suitable to the people, home and machine they are designed for. CPAP devices that are used to treat patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) are considered strongly driven by a medical aesthetic. The Suitable Machine explores how CPAP devices, hoses and masks can be housed within these bedroom settings, producing designs to personalise the domestic environment and reduce stigma through the improvement of aesthetic qualities. The research uses Research Through Design (RtD) as a methodology. Background Research, Design Audits and Narratives are used to define the scope and criteria, providing parameters for the research and design outputs. Background research shows both knowledge gaps and bias to a growing dilemma; suitability. Development of the designed outputs makes use of Sketching, 3D Scanning, CAD Modelling, digital Rendering and 3D Printing as methods; producing an experimental indication of what could be possible for the personalisation of medical devices through aesthetic change in domestic environments.</p>

A rotating mass of fluid is known as vortex and the motion of the rotating mass of fluid is known as vortex motion. Vorticity is the circulation per unit area. In this research simulation of a vortex chamber is to be carried out in ANSYS CFD taking water as fluid domain for generating a water vortex that is capable enough to move a turbine for electricity generation. The CAD modelling of the setup was set down and simulation was done in fine mesh by taking suitable wall function in the model of a cylindrical chamber along with a rectangular channel with a contraction portion at the end of it where good amount of vortex generation was acquired by observing velocity and pressure by setting different parameters. The results shows the pressure and velocity contours with 3D velocity streamline flow and the curve of the velocity and pressure curve shows the decrease of pressure and increase of velocity from inlet to outlet that leads to a decent vortex generation.

The cause of accidents due to suspension failure is fatigue. The goal of this project was to design a bell crank for an FSAE prototype to withstand fatigue loads and reduce the chances of failure during its use. After finding the bellcrank forces, the dimensions of the bellcrank and the associated OEMs (bearings) are calculated and found. This was followed by CAD modelling and structural optimization using Autodesk Fusion 360 software. Finally, finite element analysis was performed and a comparative study was done between the new and old model of bellcrank assembly based on mass, fatigue life and factor of safety and the results were acknowledged.

AbstractFor Aristotelian scholars, matter is identified as the subject of change, while form is the boundary of matter. Design is a process of bringing about change. From a design perspective, material is what an entity is made from; form is what makes a thing what it is. Based on the principle, “form is the boundary of matter”, this paper proposes a Design by Material method, thereby addressing the knowledge gap of a systematic method for designing according to material. This method is predicated on the material specification as the first input in the design process. A formal model is built in which the material acts as a trigger and driver for the design process. The method is implemented by integrating computer-aided design (CAD) modelling and its design form. A design application is explained to demonstrate the relevance of the Design by Material method.

AbstractNumerous visualisation tools based on digital and cross-reality (XR) platforms are emerging in industrial design. They offer new possibilities and promising advantages to the designers but also raise challenges for design education. This study investigates the learning experience of emerging tools in education and its influences on tool-use behaviours and attitudes in design practice. Digital sketching is selected for the case study as the emerging tool compared to more established tools (e.g., traditional sketching and CAD). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 practising designers to compare their learning experience of digital sketching versus traditional sketching and CAD modelling in formal education. Results indicate that designers’ learning experience in education can have an influence on not only their skill sets but also attitudes towards engaging with emerging visualisation tools as they progress in their careers. The study suggests that embracing emerging design visualisation tools in education now is essential for helping our future designers be more resilient and flexible with tool selection and use in their future design practice.

Additive manufacturing is a technology that is influencing every facet of manufacturing such as casting. 3D printing in particular has the potential to revolutionize castings in terms of precision and time taken in production. Patternless molds increase the efficiency of the casting process for large scale manufactured components. Therefore, ceramic based molds can be utilized for low temperature alloy parts such as mounting brackets. Nowadays, 3D printing technologies allow the direct printing of these molds. This is possible with the aid of CAD modelling of the casting mold which allows instant printing of patternless molds. The aim of this work is to introduce an approach to prepare a 3D design for a casting mold that can be manufactured using 3D printing technology. Mold design was made using Solidworks software according to standardized calculations from which cope and drag components were extracted. Candidates for potential mold material are highlighted along with advantages & limitations of utilizing 3D printing methodology.
