The article deals with the synthesis of an optimal digital controller for a stochastic plant. In order to optimize the control system, an integral quality criterion together with minimization of the controlled parameter variance that is offered here, besides the control actions the control objects are taken into account. Using the methods of optimization theory for a single-loop control system, the structure and parameters of the digital regulator are determined. The structure of the digital controller is analysed from the parameters of the quality criterion and the mathematical description of the control object. An example of the synthesis of a digital controller for an automatic control system for the air temperature at the output of the CV-P°2L°N-63B/F-N ceiling conditioner, which showed the efficiency of the digital controller when compensating for random disturbances, is given here. The obtained results are recommended to be used by the specialists on automation for the control system design as well as optimization of the existing ones.

This paper proposes a novel model for a PV cell with parameters variance dependency on temperature and irradiance included. The model relies on commercial available data, calculates the cell parameters for standard conditions and then extrapolates them for the whole operating range. An up-to-date review of the PV modeling is also included with series and parallel parasitic resistance values and dependencies discussed. The parameters variance is analyzed and included in the proposed PV model, where the self-heating phenomenon is also considered. Each parameter variance is compared to the results from different authors. The model includes only standard components and can be run on any SPICE-based simulator. Unlike other approaches that consider the internal temperature as a parameter, our proposal relies on air temperature as an input and computes the actual internal temperature accordingly. Finally, the model is validated via experiments and comparisons to similar approaches are provided.

Lane usage measures distribution of a specific traffic movement across multiple available lanes in a given time. Unbalanced lane usages decrease the capacity of subject segment. This paper took multiple left-turn lanes at signalized intersections as case study, and explored the influences of some factors on the lane usage balance. Lane usages were calculated from field collected lane volumes and the constant-sum constraint among them was explicitly considered in the statistical analysis. Classical and compositional analysis of variance was respectively conducted to identify significant influential factors. By comparing the results of compositional analysis and those of the classical one, the former ones have better interpretability. It was found that left-turn lane usages could be affected by parameter variance of geometric design or traffic control, such as length of turning curve, length of upstream segment, length of signal phase or cycle. These factors could make the lane usages achieve relative balance at different factor levels.

A multi dynamic absorber for suppressing liquid sloshing in a floating roof tank is presented. As well known, many seismic damages on floating roof tanks by the sloshing of their contained liquid due to long periodic components of earthquake motion were reported. Since the natural period of sloshing varies according to the height of liquid surface, robustness for parameters such as natural period is required for the sloshing suppression device to obtain a good suppression performance. From this point of view, we developed a multi dynamic absorber instead of the single dynamic absorber which is sensitive to the parameter variance. A multi degree of freedom mechanical model for sloshing of the contained liquid and the presented multi dynamic absorber which sets up on the floating roof of the tank is derived to design the optimal tuning for parameters of the multi dynamic absorber and to evaluate the sloshing suppression performance. Numerical simulations for an actual size floating roof tank were conducted to examine the performance of the present device. As the result the effect of the presented multi dynamic absorber was effective to suppress the sloshing response of the floating roof and to be robust for the natural period variance.

EMS-type maglev system is essentially nonlinear and unstable. It is complicated to design a stable controller for maglev system which is under large-scale disturbance and parameter variance. Theory analysis expresses that this phenomenon corresponds to a HOPF bifurcation in mathematical model. An adaptive control law which adjusts the PID control parameters is given in this paper according to HOPF bifurcation theory. Through identification of the levitated mass, the controller adjusts the feedback coefficient to make the system far from the HOPF bifurcation point and maintain the stability of the maglev system. Simulation result indicates that adjusting proportion gain parameter using this method can extend the state stability range of maglev system and avoid the self-excited vibration efficiently.
